Just wondering, what would motorists think about scrapping motor tax and putting it on fuel instead.

That was done yesterday Sham.  Today was the revenue side, yesterday was the expenditure side. The basic rate of social welfare was not touched yesterday. However the disability for young people was reduced by 88 euro a week, which was huge.

excluding vat increase im up €82 a month with this budget - dont drive or smoke so the road taxes, petrol prices, smokes etc have no impact
 
then again herself pays the pension levy, we bought just after the peak and increase taxations, so its a little back against what has been a lot taken.
 
dont necessarily agree with the increase in trs but then again, i think the budget measures have been well targeted

Did you not see the Henry Sellers tax of 85 euro  a month.  This is a tax on breaking Windows for those that jump out of them.

The previous policy stripped the exchequer of a load of money as it was too successfull :).   As a result they have tried to get that money back today

Smoking is a pure luxury, so hard to argue against an increase in tax on it.  Only reason would be that you could drive too many people into the black market and actually take less money as a result.
