He didn't play for any clubs that i'd want anyone else from though!

Had Shearer initially up front but changed it to Mbappe

I wasn’t happy with your GK, Silva or Gazza but it’s hard to swap them for somebody significantly better -

Valderrama maybe.... trying to think of SA and African players who didn’t play for top teams.

Mostly remember Gazza from 1990 WC. Looked brilliant.
Obviously should have had a much better career but booze and injuries cost him a lot of good years.

I initially had Oblak in goal but then was short of a centre back so had to fit Godin in
Had Lothar Matthaus at the back but couldn’t think of a right back so put in Lahm

I picked the team in about 10 minutes so I’m sure it can be improved on

How can you not have Zidane in your team?

I'd have him ahead of any other French player, Mbappe hasn't done enough yet and is still only a youngster, so I wouldn't have him either.

It was far across the sea,
When the devil got a hold of me,
He wouldn't set me free,
So he kept me soul for ransom.

He played for Juve and Real and I’d rather have Ronaldo in my team

True - he was the last pick and not much choice.

Picking Ronaldo and Messi rule out so many stars but 2 of the greatest players ever.

Was Valderamma that good?

I don't remember much about his playing days bar his big hair.

If he'd had a neat short back and sides would he even be remembered today?

If you get a chance, look into the match where they beat Argentina 5-0 in Buenos Aires. He was a really classy player.

Shook the World at the time but all downhill after that.

Think Diego came back after that and the Argues scraped thru.

I've probably made a balls of this somewhere

             Dasaev
TAA-Godin-Thiago Silva-Lahm
         Keane-KDB-Nedved
            Messi-Raul-Totti

Some people just deserve a slap

A game that could have ended 5-5. Argentina had their chances, Colombia took theirs.

Very much so, but they had some excellent players and he was the pick of them. Rincon and Asprilla weren't bad on their day either. I think the team was a bit inconsistent, and he was too, I suspect,  but he was a classy player.

I always find these sort of assumptions strange as goals completely change games, for a start, not to mention the fact that the better team tend to take their chances.

Interesting call.

Wouldn't be my choice (if not Jennings, then Shilton or Southall?), but Jaaskelainen gave one of the finest goalkeeping displays I've ever seen for Bolton at WHL, one midweek game in 2001:
https://www.11v11.com/matches/tottenham-hotspur-v-bolton-wanderers-11-december-2001-10440/

OK, he let in six(!), but you know when people say "It could easily have been double figures"?

It's usually an exagerration, but Allardyce said it after that game - and he meant it!

And I know Sir Les got a hattrick, but I genuinely think I'd have given JJ the MOTM that night LOL

Meanwhile, I reckon JJ was vastly underrated from playing for an unfashionable club like Bolton, and an international team which never qualified for anything.

Also his middle name is "Albert", a classic for a footballer in the English game, esp in a place like Bolton. He'd probably have got more respect if he'd used that.

As an Ireland fan you get used to these kind of assumptions -

If only this happened we would have won that game etc... instead of it being 1-1 and us completely outplayed for 80 mins.
