A list of good men associated with Rangers FC

1. Walter Smith

A proper old school football man and a gentleman

Modest to a fault - and a fine manager

Hard to consider Walter as the very definition of pure evil

Even the most fervent Celtic fan* would have to love him for this skewering of Chick Young:

"Have you been up all night working that one out?" LOL

* - Though Tonyjaa would probably complain that no Celtic manager ever gets away with swearing like that without being banned.

Big Wattie was dead right there

Basile Boli scored the winner in a European Cup final and Laudrup won the European Championship

Seems to me like both might just have been able to play at the highest level in Europe

Chic Young is one of the great names of medium wave football radio, from the times you'd have to move the radio around the kitchen to pick up a temporary crackly reception

Jimmy Armfield another great football radio name

As I once noted elsewhere, Armfield deserved a knighthood, if not Beatification, for spending all that time alongside Alan Green without chinning the fat bastard.

2. Mo Johnston

It took immense bravery for him to sign for Rangers

Predictably he was hounded out of Glasgow after a vile campaign of abuse, intimidation and indeed death threats by Celtic supporters - all because he dared to break down sectarian barriers

But Mo's bravery will always be remembered

A pioneer, a hero

Les Ferdinand and Don Givens.

Great strikers for the Rangers.

John Byrne too and that classic Guinness jersey.

Controversial one but have a lot of time for Steven Davis after his time at Saints. Brilliant player without getting the same credit as many of his teammates and an excellent professional. Just got on with it if things weren't going his way

The final straw for NI fans was the time he came to Belfast for the game vs England in 2005. Someone asked him was he supporting NI and the pompous ass replied "No, BBC man, straight down the middle".

Yet as you say, he couldn't hide his partiality towards Liverpool when with the Beeb.

No - but only because he's only ever made love to himself.

I met Trevor Steven in a restaurant in Spain and he came across very well.
It is also hard to dislike Duncan Disorderly.

Same with Trevor Francis,  he didn’t have much time for one of the lads but he had just lost his wife to cancer I believe so totally understandable.  Seemed sound too and I believe he was a Rangers legend.  They loved him at loftus road.

Not sure you could call him "controversial", since in nearly 20 years a professional he's never got into any sort of bother for his conduct, on or off the field.

Compare him with eg Morelos, Brown or any number of Celtic/Rangers/NI/ROI players.
