In the context of everything that is going in Palestine, should we be boycotting games against Israel at all levels? This is a live issue as our under 17 girls team are due to play them at the end of the month.

In my opinion, yes we should, it's a no brainer. Israel is actively committing genocide. The precedent has been set already by the expulsion of Russia. There is a blatant hypocrisy by UEFA/FIFA by continuing to allow Israel to compete.

Our ladies basketball team were hung out to dry by their federation last week. I'd love the FAI to show some balls here but I know they won't

Yes - they can't realistically be defined as anything other than a rogue state at the moment, so we certainly shouldn't be legitimising their national teams by lining out against them.
We're decent enough..

And the main funders of the genocide. On a personal level everyone has the option to boycott products that fund it.

We should be yes but we shouldn't be doing it as little old ireland on our own. We especially shouldn't be putting pressure on 16 year old girls to make that decision.

Israel's a lot nearer Africa anyway than Europe...should have been shifted to CAF when Asia didn't want them. Or let them form a federation with russia, Belarus and any other genocide loving pariah nations

How were the ladies Basketball team hung out to dry? If they didn't play they risked a €180k fine and 5 year ban. Surely nobody thinks an entire generation of Irish women's basketball should have been laid to waste just so you can give yourselves a pat on the back?

Well for one thing, the Israli team accused the entire Irish team of being antisemitic, so there's that. A horrendous and baseless, but very serious accusation. That alone should have been enough to boycott the game.

Then of course, as has already been pointed out numerous times, there is the double standard of Russia being excluded from sport globally but not Israal.

The girls were hung out to dry because they never should have been in that position in the first place. The basketball authorities authorities, both domestic and international, should already have suspended Israel.

Ah, when you said "their federation", I took that to mean Basketball Ireland, not FIBA.

I think the antisemitism allegation from one Israeli player (not the whole team) was gross and warranted the correct response from the Irish team, which was to not partake in the usual pre-game pleasantries. You cannot just boycott games in contravention of FIBA rules because an opposing player made a crass allegation.

You can pretend Russia's expulsion is a double standard if you wish. For that to be true, you'll have to cite the date on which Ukrainian militants invaded Russia, slaughtered Russian civilians and took hostages back to Ukraine, all while firing thousands of rockets at population centres. The sporting governing bodies understand the differences in the conflicts, hence the lack of Israeli expulsion. That may change soon if they begin a ground offensive in Rafah.

Edit - Thought it was also worth mentioning that Russia invaded a fellow UEFA member. Also not the case with Israel.

Boycott everything and anything related to Israel. The country should be treated worse than North Korea.
It would damage this forums' reputation

You'd like to think that the FAI has enough standing within UEFA to not suffer a ban after a boycott.

John Feighan suggested that the Israeli basketball federation were highly influential with FIBA. Unless I'm wrong, they don't hold the same sway within UEFA.

The sporting boycott of Russia and Belarus was right, so no hypocrisy should be shown.

Nothing will happen as with majority of the governing world they'll turn a blind eye, if something did happen Israel would just play the antisemitism card and the oh remember the holocaust card.
