Skysports.com understands Celtic have taken Irish midfielder Shaun Williams on trial.

Williams has caught the eye of Celtic's scouting staff after impressing for League of Ireland side Sporting Fingal.

The 24-year-old is regarded as one of the best young players in the Republic of Ireland and was named PFAI Young Player of the Year for 2010 and nominated for the senior player award.

The talented midfielder has been invited to train with Celtic so that Neil Lennon and his coaching staff can have a closer look at him.

Celtic have a good scouting network in Ireland having signed the likes of Niall McGinn and Paddy McCourt in recent years and if Williams impresses during his training stint he could win a move to Glasgow.

Very tidy player alright, very good on the ball and a strong long range shot.
