He sure wins a lot of penalties. He's like the Duff of the penalty area.

Long is having a blinding season and now he's starting to score goals consistently. That's 4 in 2 games, 10 this season for club and country. That's not to mention the amount of penalties he wins, the assists he claims, the creditable workrate.
He is a smashing player. Robbie Keane's successor. |

Match report from Reading's official website
Inspired by Shane Long, Reading put in a top drawer performance to see off Bristol City 4-1 at Madejski Stadium this Boxing Day. Long was absolutely brilliant, despite being ill in the days leading up to the game, and he was backed up by a number of other excellent performances. City took an early lead through Jon Stead, but we showed great spirit to fight back and Jobi McAnuff's desire to get into the box allowed him to make it 1-1 on the half hour. Long then did very briliantly to win the ball back from a City defender inside his own area, allowing Noel Hunt to tap home from close range for a very important goal. Long then made it 3-1 in the second half with a cracking finish past David James, getting onto a sensational throughball from Alex Pearce in the process. The Irishman then scored his seventh goal in ten games with another good finish, and it was a brilliant way to round off an excellent afternoon's entertainment. What odds somebody like Wolves, West Ham or even Everton go for him in Jan?

Reading manager Brian McDermott hailed Long's performance, saying: "Shane has been suffering with flu this week and wasn't able to train until Christmas Eve. It wasn't just the fact that he scored two goals today, it was his all-round performance."

Bristol City boss Keith Millen also had words of praise for Long, saying : "He was terrific. He doesn't stop working and running and if you constantly run into the right areas as he does the chances will fall to you. "As far as his work rate is concerned its harder to find someone who works harder than he does." |

Great to see, he has always been a great worker akin to Doyler but now seems to be adding the goals as well. Its great for us. Hope he continues to push on and would love to see Reading promoted as well.
