on current form he has to find a way to get them both in the team. McGoldrick looked sharp off the bench today. Has that bit of quality we lack and I think they’d make a decent partnership.
And that’s not even mentioning Scotty ‘Hello Goalscorer’ Hogan. I’m sure He’s high in Mick’s thoughts right now.

Shane and mcgoldrick should start up top together- its staggeringly obvious.
Mc goldrick drops deep quite well and is a far better number 10 than Hendrick. Hendrick can play inside right as he has for Burnley all season, we know mick will not switch to 3 5 2. Randolph, Coleman, Duffy, Egan, Stephens, Hendrick, McCarthy, Hourihane, McClean/Robinson, Mc Goldrick, Long I would be okay with the above. Really harsh on Doherty but Mick has clearly seen from one game in a car park on a windswept god foresaken rock that seamus and Doherty cant play together. Doherty as a right full would worry me a bit despite being an excellent wing back Edited by d13dave - 24 Feb 2020 at 8:07pm |

The old one-two? One to set them up for the other to miss them? I actually wouldn't mind that. Think we need 2 up front. Having only one up front is an awful negative approach to football

been hobbling around twice in the first half. Seems to be fine then when he gets running. Still so fast.

Thats not just a protective contract to see the relationship through to the end of the season, that actually suggests that he is very much part of Southampton's plans.

11 years as a PL player and another 2 with this option (should it be completed).
Few Irish players would have that sort of longevity at that level.

He has so many positive attributes, good in the air, can hold the ball up for other players to get up the field, his acceleration and pace are amazing, is strong when shoulder to shoulder with defenders.
Sadly his finishing isnt great and he doesnt find himself in dangerous areas in the box so goals are few and very far between. Which is how a forward is measured

Think it will be 13 years in the premier league if he finishes the 2 years there.

His current manager certainly rates him and he was looking back to top form before the break. Danny Ings will be pleased as Shane creates space and chances for him. Also should be helpful to Michael Obafemi's career working with him at club level. Good news for Stephen Kenny.

In fairness though for someone who came so late to the game he has carved out an impressive career from it. This new contract is great news as the manager does seem to really rate him.

Quick search there says currently on £60k a week but don't know how his age would effect that for renewal. Or more importantly how accurate the site I got the figure off is!!!

Fair play to him. Some testament to his conditioning that they're offering a 33 year old who's main attribute is pace a 2 year contract.
