Don't think he has any injury and not in the 18 today for Southampton.

He’s rightfully the fourth choice striker behind Austin, Ings and Gabbiadinni. Is it too late for him to go on loan to a championship club?

Hughes played him a lot at the end of last season (and Long performed reasonably well for him); he'll get his chances

Sure it'll be no time before Ings and Austin pick up another long term injury

He's never been a prolific goal scorer, he'd bring a lot to that team and would work well in the Rafa system.

Back in the matchday squad today as Ings and Austin start together up front.

Came on before the hour mark for an ineffective and immobile Austin, who when isn't scoring the occasional tap-in contributes very little indeed; a criticism that can ever be fairly levelled at Long. Odd that Hughes should utilise an old-fashioned 4-4-2 away to Everton and even stranger for him to think that Austin and Ings would work as an effective partnership.

Yeah thought if you were gonna go with two up top you'd start Long as one of the two to do the donkey work.
