I dont think his recent performances for Ireland have been all that bad. We conceded 1 goal in our last 3 matches

All that bad? He’s been our best player. I wish we were in a position to write off Duffy but talking about it is wishful thinking. I’m not even a big Duffy fan but I tend to be a fan of players who play well in the green.

I like Duffy. He's a proper old school centre half, he's aggressive and wholehearted. He does struggle with the ball at his feet though. He suits a "backs to the wall, no frills team" rather than a team looking to dominate possession. He looked very cumbersome for Celtic last night.

Duffy is 28, he's hardly a pensioner. If he's dropped by club or country it will be based on his ability and form, not his age. The reality is that the game has evolved and there's less of a place for old school centre halves now. He hasn't been able to adapt his game to the modern day version of his position and is paying the price. I don't necessarily think it's his fault, he's a die with his boots on type of defender but unfortunately a very poor technical footballer.

I never made him out to be a pensioner, but the fact is you can dismiss him as a footballer\defender\player all you want. Kenny is still going to pick him and there is no evidence to suggest otherwise.

I don't think anyone is suggesting Duffy is not good enough for the team, he has his strengths and weakneses like all players.
If ireland were to play tomorrow he'd be rightly in the first team, however he is being asked to play the type of football that exposes his weakness. His strengths are still there of course. Under mccarthy or Mon it was less of an issue but under Kenny or Potter its a bit more obvious |

He is an awesome defender for any side looking to get to the magic 40 points. Newcastle would suit him.

I could agree with you but then we'd both be wrong.

he's just been shown up in the Scottish Prem. He'd be lucky to get a Championship team after this

He's overweight. A condition afflicting many of our players.

Neil Lennon has told critics to lay off star signing Shane Duffy and insisted he’s not to blame for Celtic’s dodgy defensive displays.
Lennon’s side have shipped eight goals in nine games since Duffy’s arrival from Brighton. The Irishman came under fire for sub-standard performances in defeats to Rangers and AC Milan last week but Lennon has revealed he needed emergency dental work just 24 hours before the Old Firm clash. He also insists Duffy has been thrown in at the deep end in the absence of Christopher Jullien, Hatem Abd Elhamed and Nir Bitton and Lennon is convinced the 28-year-old will be a stalwart this season. He said: “Shane didn’t play any football for nine months. All of a sudden he’s played 14 games in about five weeks. "He played all of the games for Ireland then he had an abscess in his mouth that was giving him a lot of pain “He flew back into Glasgow last Thursday, had some emergency dental work and we had to roll him out on Saturday against Rangers. “He played on Thursday night but we’re curtailed in that he’s got no Bitton, Jullien or Elhamed beside him. “In the main, his performances have been pretty consistent. “I know he’s under a bit of scrutiny because people are looking at him for some of the goals we’ve lost but we can’t pinpoint that on Shane. It’s a collective effort. “As the season unfurls and goes along, he’ll play a huge part and he’s a good type as well. We also have to remember that these boys are away from home. “This isn’t like the big lockdown where they were able to go home and visit their families. “They’re in at training and then they’re restricted in where they can go. “Shane will eventually revel in the pressure of playing for Celtic but he’s only just in the door. “He’s been thrown in without any real pre-season. He’ll get better and better and he’ll be a stalwart." |

To summarise the above; Duffy's form for Celtic has been poor, he had a toothache, he should get better as he can't get much worse.

He was MOTM in his first 2 games. He's only played 8 games.
Celtic as a team are not playing well either. |
