Was very good again yesterday in what was likely his last game in the LOI. Won't be short of options next month when he can officially join teams in the UK.

Seems to have a lot of suitors according to reports.

I’d rather he went somewhere that he is closer to the first team starting XI versus going to Man City and into their U21 squad (he is linked with city and Utd amongst others)

Should avoid United like the plague if they're showing interest. At least with City you might end up at Southampton in a couple of years the way they've been throwing money at City for academy players

I wonder will he fall into the Lee O'Connor trap of being an excellent underage player but struggling to nail down a senior position. He looks excellent at RB in the League but if he goes to England he'll be consistently up against players who are quicker than him - a different challenge.

Certainly a worry.
Two big U21 matches upcoming and we'll see how he fares against the better players at this age-group, particularly the Italians who've looked a class above each time we played them.

Has given himself a good opportunity by being exposed to first team football the past couple of seasons. Done well in the Euro games I've seen. Not a burner but still no slouch in the pace stakes & has excellent positioning & anticipation. He'll be fine.  Should avoid the factory clubs like the plague.though.

Unless he backs himself to go to the top going to a City or Utd is madness. Better of going to a Championship club if he can and push for a place from the off.

Where ever he goes, it needs to be into a first team squad. Playing youth football in the UK will be detrimental to his development at this stage, he's already proved he's surpassed that level of football.

On that basis a Championship team is probably best. The interest in him is warranted IMO. Anytime I've seen him I've thought he's been excellent

Obviously there will be a genuine answer to this, but his contract runs out and he turns 18, meaning Pats get nothing for him. Presumably the player wanted it this way, so he had freedom to choose to go anywhere he wanted on a free contract. Pats couldnt get him to sign a longer deal, like they have with Mason Melia?

The age old problem of very good young players leaving for the UK and Irish clubs not able to capitalise with a fee...

I think it's a possibility. From what I've seen, he doesn't have the electric pace or technique you'd associate with a top class full back, and wouldn't have the physical size you see with most top centre backs. I think there are a lot of parallels with O'Connor in the sense that he's a solid player who'll do a good job in various positions, but maybe won't excel in any of them.

Wouldn't agree with a lot of this. Whatever about his pace, anytime ive seen him live I've thought his technical proficiency has been high. Also, he's only 17 so he's going to physically develop over the next 3/4 years.

Looks fully grown to me, probably part of the reason he's been able to step up to mens football so early. Clearly he's good, I'd just have some reservations that he's an early developer who maxes out their potential quite early, rather than someone who's going to continue to make big leaps of development.

Given his skillset I wonder if he's one who might end up playing more as a deep lying midfielder as he gets older. Think his lack of pace will hold him back as a full back. He can probably be a good centre back, but that's going to be a seriously competitive part of the Ireland team for the next decade and beyond.

You can look at everything in life with a glass half empty approach if you like. Can equally look at it as this is a guy who is ticking a ton of boxes so far and no reason not to think he can get a move to a bigger club and further improve.

He has played for Pats as a CB as well and has looked very comfortable in that position too
