Letting Russia have Crimea sounds all well and good until you realise you can't tell Ukraine what to do. If they decide to let it go they will otherwise they'll fight on.

Here's an incredible video showing a Russian armoured unit surrendering at a pre arranged point. There's more footage circulating showing the aftermath. Could possibly be Ukrainian propaganda but if real this is a very good sign.

I seen on RTE this evening that there are estimated to be several thousand foreign soldiers fighting in Ukraine. Quite a lot.

You have to ask what are Putin's cards left to play ?

1/ Carry on as is , and hope the winter will stop the advance .
2/ Cut a deal give up most of the land grab but keep hold of the Crimea .
3/ Go for Nukes to stop the fighting then blame the West .
4/ He see's no way out and cuts and runs to some safe haven .

I think he will run #4 for me .

5/ he's removed from power - may even get a bullet to the head.

His removal from power is an almost certainty...when is another question but by Christmas the Russian army will be in tatters and the war as good as over - there'll be no hiding the catastrophe back home.

Let's hope your Ukraine war advances pan out Coleman, if it does Putin would probably be gone as well. Then if the next leader has to negotiate letting Russia have Crimea would be a good saving face for them and the war can end.

I think they even had to turn away many at the start as there were too many foreigners without any combat experience going to Ukraine to sign up. Same with Ukrainians. Too many volunteers so many are held in reserve waiting to be trained.

Zelensky requested nuclear weaponry from NATO.

His request was refused

His request for NATO membership was refused.

The withdrawal continues a long history of Russian warfare. Disorganised, chaotic and often ill disciplined. Yet, through their vast resources, they eventually starve the enemy into submission and prevail.

Napoleon made huge ground, the SS made huge ground. They were brought eastward  ever eastward and froze into the ground.

These eastward advances are actually too rapid. They are encouraged eastward.

The young Irish lad who died looked like a wee slip of a thing. Would he have received any training beforehand or was it straight into a warzone? How much experience do Irish people have handling guns or staying awake 24/7 and being on the move in terrain completely different to what we have in this country? Bizarre stuff TBH. He looked totally ill-equipped for it. He was working as a pig farmer in Denmark before this!

This war is mutually disastrous. No winners.

Fighting an attritional with a country with vast resources isn't going to end well.

Ultimately, Ukraine will end up in rubble. And there won't be any easy Western money to prop them up as the European economy will be on its knees.

Germany is being deindustrialised through energy starvation.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s call for a preemptive NATO strike against Russia should not be interpreted as a request to attack the country, his press secretary has insisted.

“Colleagues, you have gone a bit too far with your nuclear hysterics and hear ‘nuclear strikes’ where there are none,” Sergey Nikoforov wrote on Facebook on Thursday, responding to widespread alarm over the president’s words.

The press secretary pledged that Ukraine will never resort to nuclear threats, calling it something only the “terrorist state Russia” would do.

Moscow has denied that its senior officials were threatening anybody when they described the country’s official nuclear posture, in the context of warning NATO members against attacks on Russia.

Hours earlier, Zelensky told the Australian Lowy Institute that NATO should carry out preemptive strikes against Russia so that it “knows what to expect” in the event that it uses atomic weapons.

Zelensktmy is a dangerous little man.

Before the war started everyone said Russia would never invade.
They are saying the same about using tactical nuclear weapons.

Kerch Bridge that links Russia to the Crimea has been struck by what looks like a missile attack (bomb). Not a great birthday present for Putin.

Was it not a lorry rigged with explosives and it spread to a train fuel tanker. One section completely collapsed and the train line probably needs repairs. Great news. Good thing the other section didn't collapse. Gives the Russian planters in Crimea a chance to return to Russia before the whole thing goes boom.

@Bot#B66HE
Where was all this anti war rhetoric when Russia was lining up at the border and eventually invaded?
