I was just going to say that was a typical 'Stephen Kenny' type goal. You could see that Brosnan was absolutely furious that they got the shot away without being blocked.

We deserve to at least be level. Poor goal to concede but the level of performance is very encouraging. This is an experimental Irish team playing away to the best team in the world. Hopefully can keep this up

Happy enough with that performance,not closing down quick enough for first goal and shirt pull for penno....those things can be rectified....
I reckon Sinead Farrelly has booked her seat for Oz.....

I started this thread over seven years ago as  Sue Ronan's Ireland  were heading stateside to play two games in the first game we got tanked 5-0 and couldn't string two passes together and the second was a 2-0 defeat against a USA u23 side behind closed doors. Roll on seven years and we can go toe to toe with the Americans. The first few pages of this thread is contrasting reading compare to what we are reading now.

We used 28 players in qualifying, 3 or so look set to miss out with long term knee and ankle injuries. Of those 28 some haven't featured since the beginning of the campaign back in 2021 with their form falling off a cliff since and/or are back playing semi professional. Some literally had injury time appearances where they didn't even touch the ball.

Not saying she deserves a place herself but she look good and there are a couple (2-3 places) up for grabs. More so if FIFA allow an expanded squad of 26.

That's football. A manager has to pick the best possible players available to them. It would be arrogant of any player to think they have a guaranteed spot in the squad or that the coach must retain them out of loyalty.

If we took your argument to its logical conclusion, Vera couldn't add any new players to the WC squad, despite the fact that there is an eight month gap between qualification and the tournament.

Wasn't Trap lambasted for sticking with the players that qualified for Euro 2012? instead of bringing through other players.
