From the Independent: If Vera Pauw’s team are deemed to be ranked third after winning the second round they will play in a 10-team intercontinental play-off tournament in Hamilton and Auckland in February 2023, where another 3 teams can win the remaining places. |

Switzerland and Iceland would be ahead of us in terms of their team strength so I would rather avoid them and take our chances with someone else.
The intercontinental tournament wouldn't be the worst. They would still fancy their chances plus they get the experience if travelling down there as group. Ideal situation for sure if that Iceland draw the swiss

can we draw either of the other two top three teams, or is finishing in the top three just a bye to the second round?

We can draw any of the other five teams still left in the play offs in the second round, whether seeded or unseeded. In truth, any game is going to be potentially tricky and there is unlikely to be an 'easy' one. It's a good thing the Netherlands got through last night - that is a team nobody would have wanted to play in the second round. A home draw would be a big plus. |

We've drawn Scotland or Austria away in the second play off.
Scotland will be at home in the first round match.

Home draw would have been nice but avoiding any of the bigger teams was the main thing

Without knowing much about Scotland or Austria, that looks an okay draw?

Austria is not a good draw at all.

Not bad at all - there would have been no such thing as an 'easy' draw in the second round. We'd be hoping to get Scotland here of course, they wouldn't be as good as Austria on paper.

There was no draw there that wasn't going to be tough. Realistically everyone going to the 2nd round would have wanted Ireland. Bigger teams avoided. Of the possibilities it's not the worst. Austria 20th in the world ranking, Scotland 23rd, Ireland 26th

They're only ranked slightly ahead of us, I wouldn't be getting too worked up. Have a look at what was happening elsewhere - Portugal and Belgium face each other in the first round and the winner of that has to play Iceland in the second round.

I think we're well set up to play against attacking teams away from home. We won in Finland and drew in Sweden (there was a part of me even thinking before the draw that we might be better off with an away game as a one off instead of being at home). Besides, we can't even be sure it will be Austria - the Scots could lift themselves on the night or get through on penalties or whatever, let's wait and see.

Yep. Main thing here was avoiding the 3 above

And Switzerland in fact - Austria or Scotland are perfectly manageable and our girls will fancy a crack at either.

If we were at home, I'd fancy us. Away will be very tough. Austria would be a cut above Slovakia and Finland looking at their results
