Surely you'd have the Declan Rice with the Tony Currie!

Kenny has proved to be the wrong man, but he had the right idea.

We didn't lose games under him because we passed the ball too much. Long range strikes and goals directly after half-time cost us.

The goals we scored under him were some of the best we have ever produced - from the 40 passes v Qatar to Collins solo effort v the Ukraine.

So his style can work, he just never produced it often enough. A better manager with similar ideas should be the priority.

Kenny, currently, has neither. We're easy to play against and we don't score enough goals.

Are you for real???  That was a spirited, gritty performance in a critical game against the reigning world cup champions.  The atmosphere was electric, and Shane Long's finish was sublime. I'd watch that match again, and again, and again.  And again.

If you want to watch that type of football regularly, I suggest that you seek out a doctor.

A sh*thouse win is fine every now and then. It's not sustainable though.

If you didn't enjoy what was our greatest victory of the last decade, perhaps you are the one that needs to consult a doctor.

Jack and Mick were both charismatic pragmatists that played a system suited to our team's strengths.  We need to find someone of a similar mindset.

International football was always about results. In this context, Kenny has failed miserably and his time has gone.

However, the turgid style that Trap delivered and then MoN, turned Irish fans off, once results dropped for both.
McCarthy had us playing at our best (first time round) being both competitive and reasonably attractive to watch. However, he marred his legacy with his ongoing & sour working relationship with his best player. Again, once results dropped off, the fans turned on him both times, in a flash.

Basically, it comes down to who we're playing against and the kind of players available to us.

I'd like to see us play with some creativity, especially when we are playing sides below us.  For teams on or about our own level, we need to really concentrate on our defence and stop conceding soft goals to average teams. The results will look after themselves.

The bottom line for Irish teams playing against the better sides is to work hard especially in midfield and hope for a lucky break.  For instance, constantly trying to play out from the back against world class players is moot, given the talent we often have available to us.

2020 was the end result of 15 years of caring only about results. Pick the same ageing players in every game, play percentage football, and hope it gets you a play off. It leads to one place, a team without identity or emerging talent, setting up increasingly negative and desperate in the hope that they can squeeze out "just one more playoff". A hiding to nowhere, and the last 3 years has shown this is exactly what we deserve, our fans are too thick to allow the team to build towards something more sustainable. Lets just keep sticking with the old guard, lumping the ball up the field, and hope that we can make a play-off once out of every 3 attempts.

At least one of those goals arose from flying tackles from Irish players, if that is the "style" being referred to, then yes please more of that.

Any football fan who wants to watch their team hang on for dear life for 90+ minutes is not a fan of football.

We restricted the world champions to just one goal over two games and took 4 points off them.

Give me that every single time over the nonsense we've been fed for the past 4 years.

I asked the same question results or style to SK when he had been appointed on a fan online forum, some may remember.
His answer....we can have both. I doubted him then and I still doubt him.

Again, the main point is that I don't want to watch Ireland play that way vs every superior opponent.

It's not sustainable. A smash & grab loses its novelty if it occurs every 2nd game.

Some of you freaks obviously don't care about the journey, just the destination i.e. 3 points.
