Anyone else feel We always are in a boom bust cycle of...
Results!!! All We want is to qualify!!!!.... after a while its sack the manager... Playing style !!! We arent playing good football.....after a while its sack the manager... Results!!! All We want is... Repeats at infinitum What is it We want... style or results... my feeling is We want both currently We just simply arent going to get it For my money Kerr had the best mix and was marginal in not qualifying. But he didnt get results... He also wasnt JD's man and a few other reasons Anyway in the absence of being able to go toe to toe with countries of superior standard of players what is our top priority... Results or Style

Results all day every day. No use in having a lovely style of play (which we don't have), then getting beat in most matches and never qualifying for any tournaments.

For the purpose of this question yes. What is the main aim. Id be pretty sure previous managers have been asked by the FAI to achieve one as the priority.

Im going to edit the bold part to reflect this, but the question will remain two options. What is the Top priority which the FAI may very well ask and have asked before of the incoming manager

I think it would be helpful to define what you mean by style in all honesty. People have this idea that fans looking to watch better football are hoping to see Pep's Barca or the current Brighton team every time Ireland line up or something. It's not that at all, it's just not the first instinct to lump it long and sitting deep all the time with no attempt to get up the pitch or retain possession a little.
Similarly, anyone scoffing at results seems to think that sacking Kenny means a return to extreme defensiveness and the end days of MON and Mick where not only were we seeing sh*te football, the results weren't there either. Truth is I want to see us become more solid, start getting results in the bag but also continue to try and play a bit when we are able to get on the ball and retain possession a little. If the next manager has us playing extremely defensive for the first while to get the results going that's fine in my book, but I think there needs to be some ambition to retain possession when we can. Tbh I think some of the best performances under Kenny have been when we've blended these two together, sitting a bit deeper against the better sides but still managing to get on the ball a bit - but the clean sheets have been so few and far between that we've rarely gotten the results from those performances. So first priority for me is becoming solid at the back to be honest.

A mixture of the two.
I wouldn't want to watch Ireland 1-0 Germany every game. Kenny, currently, has neither. We're easy to play against and we don't score enough goals.

But this isn't the MO of the new FAI.

I agree. But the question is coming from a place of what the FAI are likely to ask the next manager. What is the top priority asked of

Part of the criteria for selecting the new manager will be playing style though. |

Results. Because results can lead to qualification, which results in more income, which could lead to further income from new sponsorship.

It can be both and it’s astonishing that has to be argued.
On a wider point a serious wake up call is needed for Irish football in general but our fans ain’t immune from this. I just find our fans in general have complete backward notions of how football works in 2023. Have just seen little things like the weird reaction to Collins and his family actually taking initiative with his career and getting out of a rancid footballing environment like Wolves or the sneering reaction (meltdown on here) to Parrott going out on loan outside the English lower Leagues convey this. All low IQ rhetoric that would be seen as fair in 1993 but not 2023. Players move from club to club willy nilly until they find the right one/if it’s a progressive football move and players move to other countries for football in the modern day. Irish fans acted in both situations like it was some foreign concept. As for Kenny in terms of results it’s been a disaster but there has been various sniping implying we have notions trying to progress a bit in terms of actually playing decent football. We were the most technically deficient team in Europe from 2017-2020. We can’t go back to that either. One further thing I will say I look at that spoofer for the 21s and the way he set us up against Turkey or Israel in the play off (he made Ferguson look like a pub League footballer) and I do admire Kenny for trying to address this. 100% whatever about Kenny clearly in terms of results it’s been a mess and hasn’t worked. That doesn’t mean we can go back to the rubbish being served up prior to that. The worst team to watch in Europe Georgia and Moldova were playing us off the park. A happy medium can definitely be found.

For the point of this yes. Wed all like both but what is our top priority first I just think, We all change our minds based on our current predicament. I reckon if We asked the same question after Oneill/Trap We would be getting the opposite answers. Me included.
