Mourinho says he'd only coach Portugal at international level, and not for a few years yet:

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12016_2815095,00.html - http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12016_2815095,00.html

...the Portuguese insists he is more interested in club football and the only international side he would manage is his home nation... "I couldn't see myself coaching any national team other than Portugal. If I were coach of another team and had to face Portugal, it would be wrong...

"I'd like to continue in club management, perhaps in Italy where I can test myself against their tacticians. The national team would be for later. The Portuguese national team is an ambition but not for the Jose Mourinho of today...

"Being the coach of a national team is not the same as being coach of a club. It's a job for someone who doesn't like working much."...

And Mourinho insists that bringing in coaches from overseas to lead international sides is wrong...

"I'm completely against having foreigners with national teams, not because I doubt the professionalism with which they do it, but I think that a national team should bring together the best players and the best coach from each country. "The national team is an obsession for me but it will be at the end of my career. Let there be no doubt about that."

Stevie Coppell would be a great shout, can get the best out of average players and can create a good team spirit.
I cant help thinkin that Roy Hodgson is the man we need, experienced in international football, done well with the swiss and is puttin a good shift in with Finland at the mo,seen an article recently sayin he was on less then 200 grand a year so good auld J.D would love him.Leaves a few quid in the pot to put someone like Kevin Moran beside him to assist.

if they are talking about a 1 million + bonuses pay packet why would you look at settling on O'Leary, terrible move in my opinion! Get someone who has been there, done it before + got the t-shirt. Thats savage loot for any manager outside the top 6-7 teams in the premiership!
Go Abroad!! Best thing that could happen the setup of the Irish team!

Was never eager on Geread Houllier when he was at pool but dont think he would be the worst manager and can hardly be on big bucks at Lyon..
His ticker not the best though

i honestly don't think going abroad is the way forward with Ireland. We need a manager who knows the lads and understands Irish football.

O'Leary for me.

Some of the suggestions are rediculous. As if Marin Jol, Ronald Kouman, Martin O'Neill or Martin Jol would even consider it. They're reputations are too hot right now and they would laugh at the suggestion. To be honest if Jol was sacked tomorrow - he wouldn't even take the Dutch national job because there'd be so much interest in him from top clubs around the world. And why mention the old Mexican manager - I think knowing the English language might be a priority. From the papers putting so much pressure on the FAI to get someone of top quality in I don't think they'll even consider the likes of O'Leary or Aldridge this time. They'll go with someone who has an impressive CV who has fallen down the ranks in recent years like Tollmoller or Beenhakker - who can both speak english. I don't think either of them would make us a decent side but if I was a betting man I'd go for one of them. But it's Roy Hodgson all the way for me. There is no reason why he wouldn't work!!

If the FAI want good press they only have to do one thing. Ask all the leading Soccer writers in the country plus GerKeano from YBIG to have a meeting and come up with the next Ireland manager. Then when it fails - the journalists only have themselves to blame because it was their idea. The FAI would get great publicity - it's theonly way they would.

Beenhakker is a great shout as i said before. we had a chance to get him in previously and bottled it and now it's too late as he's guiding the Poles to the euros when it should have been us Angry

can't see anyone being announced before christmas and prob until jan or feb. I hope this is the case as there could be a few others available for the job then and they wont jusy jump on whats available at the moment, ie nothing. Givens can do the job until then as just meaningless games! Or even the FAI could do a webpoll where the fans pick the team for the next few games as their only muck friendlies anyway!! Count for free role in centre mid! Thumbs%20Up

Sky sports news main headlines this hour claim that the fai are split as to stan's future. interview with kevin doyle and he doesnt seem too confident that gaffer will be still around - he stutters a bit when asked does he think stan will still be in charge next campaign.
They also show stan's record as ireland manager - played 17, won 6, drew 6, lost 5.....nowhere near good enough

Yea i seen the interview with Doyle. Looks like Stan is going bye bye. As for Martin Jol or Mourinho taking over. Come on people. Be realistic. I'd say there more chance of Berbatov trying to score for spur than that happening!Censored
