Tough one, but which one is compulsory every time. Probably bacon for me.

Switch them with mushy peas for me. They should also be in a ramekin and not near any of the good stuff.

Mushy peas in a fry up? Wud ya go way man. The beans shud be on the plate and nowhere near a ramekin. Its a fry up not a meal in a 5 star restaurant.

Sausage, potato bread, soda bread, white and black pudding and the egg are the best parts of a fry

Could take or leave the rest

Sausage by an absolute mile. Not even close.

Beans should be nowhere near the plate.

A big pile of manky beans should never darken the plate of a fry up - it's the gruel of the proletariat.

I think peas have a nicer taste and mushy peas have a nicer texture to them. Beans way too bland. Granted, I probably wouldn't have either with a fry.

I hate tomatoes. Cucumbers quite nice. Pickles as well I became a big fan of after having them in America.

Big fan of the Ulster Fry, would have be to be Potato Bread and Soda Farl. I also think sausage is more important than bacon

Never tried the Granby white pudding, its on the shopping list now though. If im making a brinner I would regularly sizzle up a Granby burger.

In reply to the original question, a fry up is not a fry up wothout a number of the items listed IMO. Sausage, rashers, white pudding and fried or poached egg (if im on a health buzz) are crucial.

Following your peas comment, Im not surprised that you diss the poached egg. Done properly and lightly salted, its a brilliant addition although fried is the numero uno.

Not really a fry without the sausage but white and black pudding up there with it for me.
2 sausages, 2 white pudding, 2 black pudding, 2 fried egg.

Would have 2 pouched egg most mornings as my breakfast. Handy as:
(A): Doesn't leave a mess like scrambled egg does on the pots (and I dislike mircro wave scrambled).
(B): Healthier than fried egg and less hassle.
(C): You can just throw them in the pan of warm water and leave them there and come back to them in 5 minutes and ready to go.

Add a little bit of salt and a slice of white or black pudding.

Would probably vote sausage myself but Boxty deserves an honourable mention

Kearns sausages as already mentioned are terrific. Makes a big difference in picking the best products for each ingredient type.

I think some form of spud is important. Hash brown, boxty, farls or sauteed spuds.

Too many places doing “grills” now rather than fry ups.
Had a cracking fry in Del Rios on Marlborough St last week.
Place doubles up as a chipper so the big breakfast with chipsClap
White pudding was crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. Eggs runny. Decent sausages and rashers

Dont mind beans if they are in some sort of bowl not contaminating everything else.

Hate it when you're somewhere and they have 4, 5, 6, 7 piece fry ups and you've to sacrifice something before the price goes stupid.

Pudding has to be coarse Clap

Del Rio's is grand but The Stagedoor Cafe's fries are the best in Dublin. They also do a cracking omelette 😋.

The white pudding is their calling card so much so they offer white pudding with toast as a dish on their menu. Great spot.

Sounds good but never heard Potatoe farls being used. It's always been Soda farls and potatoe bread/tattie bread that I know of.

White pudding from a butchers. You know the one that goes a little bit crispy on the outside, stays soft on the inside and sucks up all the grease that tastes of all the other stuff on the pan Heart

Used to do maintenance work in a meat factory in coolock, they’d be putting all their black pudding in big vats of hot water, anyway when they cooled every thing went to wrapping all the puddings in different wraps ‘‘twas gas it’d all been done in the same vat
