President Michael D Higgins and football legends such as Paul McGrath, Niall Quinn and David O'Leary will be among the guests as this week's Late Late Show celebrates the centenary of the Football Association of Ireland.

President Higgins will be live in-studio to speak with Ryan about his passion project, his Machnamh 100 series of seminars on the War of Independence and Civil War, his decade as president of Ireland and his love of football.

This week's Late Late Show marks one hundred years of the FAI (formed in 1921) with some of the greatest players to have worn the Ireland jersey since the split in Irish football.

The likes of Paul McGrath, Niall Quinn, David O'Leary, Packie Bonner and Shay Given will share their memories of the glory days of the international team.

The organisation of football in Ireland even pre-dates the GAA as the Irish Football Association (IFA) was formed four years earlier in 1880.

Following a dispute over the venue for the 1921 Cup Final replay, the game in the then Irish Free State broke away from the IFA and set up its own association.

Also joining the show will be current internationals Gavin Bazunu, Dara O'Shea, Jessie Stapleton and Chloe Mustaki and managers Vera Pauw and Stephen Kenny.

John Charlton will also be joining us to pay tribute to his father, the late, great former Ireland manager Jack Charlton.

Plus, there will be music from singer-songwriter David Gray, who will perform This Year's Love, and Dan McCabe will sing Fields of Athenry.

The Late Late Show, RTÉ One, Friday, May 20th at 9.35 pm

Given Tubridy's lack of sporting knowledge this could be a total cringe fest.
Given that the Late Late show was one of the facilitators of one of the people who has caused the most damage to football in Ireland over the last 100 years, will they reference that??
Or maybe invite a few of the CRISC to reflect on that point also!
Can well imagine a few of the Delaney brigade like Davy Keogh getting far too much air time on this.

Pretty much goes without saying.

Hes an awful "interviewer" whoever he is talking to. Asks a question then immediately speaks over the person trying to answer it putting words in their mouth or trying to finish their sentence for them.

You can put your house on him turning turning the conversations into morbid depressing stuff too. Loves to ask people about deaths of their loved ones or partners or make charity/pity cases out of anyone that has suffered an illness.

Calling it now that the main focus will be on Paul McGraths alcoholism/daemons/addictions/his wife leaving him, Chloe Mustaki's cancer battle and of course speaking to Jack Charltons son about his death.

..and probably something about the late Pete St John since theres a perfomance of the Fields of Athenry.

Still, I thought I should give it a shout out for those into that stuff on a Friday night LOL

He is a train wreck.
I literally have no idea how he keeps his job or who thought it was a good idea he got his job i the first place. They should be fired too
He is really cringe and has so little rapport with guests.

No sign of our CEO last night.... which is a good thing. Keep your head down and get on with the job. JD would have loved the limelight last night.

When he finished the interview with current players and management he says "Go forth and be brilliant, one and all." Who even talks like that?

He asked Dara O'Shea two questions- a fairly thin one about his gaelic background that couldn't draw any insight really and a second one about what he makes of Stephen Kenny. So strange.

Anyway, Bazunu is forty years of age. I still gleaned that. What a mature, solid and intelligent man.

The thing I see with Tubridy is that he is tries way too hard.  He laughs at all his guests jokes in a sycophantic way.  Gay Byrne would sit there and almost have this demeanor where the guests had to impress him and had this sort of smirk and cynicism but would also laugh if warranted.

He isn't as natural as Gaybo or any legendary tv personalities.

with you on that. Bad enough with him getting the gig but to be still in it 15 odd years later is perplexing.

When the conversation is always about the presenter, and not the content, you know you have a problem.

Look Tubs has his talents but talking to sports people isn't his topic. Its not all his fault i don't think. There always seems to be too many guests on and it always seems rushed nowadays which does not help and wouldn't be his fault. Also the prople who book the guests cleary have zero imagination as its the same old faces trotted out every few weeks. He has his faults but its not all his own doing IMO.

He really doesn't.

Hes a terrible 'interviewer' whoever it is he is interviewing. He just doesn't let people speak, hes forever talking over his guests. He asks a question lets them start to speak and then immediately interrupts with another question or tries to answer the question for them by finishing their sentences, more often than not getting what they were trying to say arseways.

A good interviewer does his home work on his guests and topics, asks the questions that want to be heard and should know when and when not to speak.

Its like a bad ref that just doesn't let a game flow, blowing up for anything anything and getting decision after decision wrong.

He should never be in the position he is earning that kind of cash, hes a semi decent radio presenter at best riding the RTE gravy train.

He is the worst host of a show I have ever seen. He literally can't speak.

He laughs when people are sick and then has empathy at a light moment. His timing is terrible and he's just an all round shocking person.

The only time I would leave him on is for the Toy Show and that says it all.
