Must be a few at Burnley down the years Murph? Battering rams that rarely scored.

Kevin Davies of Bolton fame is fairly suspect in this category. Tough as old boots but scoring record is crap - 818 games/151 goals

Maybe not in line with this thread but ............
Andy Lockhead
Steve Kindon
Billy Hamilton
Paul Flecther
Mike Conway
Roger Eli

These were guys who would run into a brick wall for the team in the old 4th division where some of them played .

Is that that bad?

1 goal in every 4.6 games?

Most our strikers wouldnt be hitting those figures

Shane Long for example.

League 471 apps 96 goals (1 in 4.9)

Total 555 apps 118 goals.(1 in 4.7)

Jon Walters

League 495 apps 94 goals (1 in 5.2)

Total 573 apps 117 goals (1 in 4.9)

I was thinking David Mc Goldrick or David McGoldrought as he was nicknamed at Saints. I was surprised to find that he scored 112 in 463 games. Fairly respectable. Emile Heskey's786/164 isn't great considering the career he had

Dennis Bergkamp -

If you compare him with say Robbie Keane - I'd say that Bergkamp was a much better player and was in a much better side.

Bergkamp has 87 goals in 315 games
Keane has 80 goals in 197 games.

Some difference.

You've kinda confused me with this post Confused

After looking at the goals to games ratio for both players, has it changed your opinion on Bergkamp being a better player than Robbie Keane?

I don't think Daryl ever really played as an out-and-out forward in the PL.

It's a team game, players like Giroud might not get lots of goals but they are very important to the way their team's play. Kevin Davies is a good example, I doubt you would find a Bolton fan with anything negative to say about him.

216 apps/34 goals

1 goal every 6.5 games

Was thinking Bergkamp but Horsey mentioned him.

Brian McClairs was pretty poor from what I remember.

Yeah but watered down as he drifted further back field to make room for Cantona and Cole etc.

Think Mark Hughes is similar in that regard (62 games are southampton/2 goals). Played out his later years in midfield. As did Dwight Yorke.

Had a pretty good goal scoring record in 91/92 season with 16 league goals! Last few years at United he barely scored, 1 goal in 26 Premier League games in 93/94 season, in fairness he was mainly a sub.

And I recall McClair being deployed as a midfielder after Cantona was signed. As Brendan says, he was pretty prolific beforehand.

John Aldridge record for Ireland was pretty sh*t. I think he went about 20 games before scoring in a friendly against Tunisia, then most of his goals came against Latvia LOL

He had two decent goalscoring seasons. He was never prolific.

Freddie Sears 81 in 445 (which is actually better than I was expecting to see).
He was billed as a wonder kid at West Ham, but only scored 3 in 58 there. He seems to have improved with stats with a couple of decent seasons in League 1 and 2

I don't think Daryl ever really played as an out-and-out forward in the PL.

Daryl got his move to Sunderland due to his record with Waterford but Mick McCarthy played him out on the right when he went to England. He doesn’t have a great goal scoring record but he was a good player and is still loved in Newcastle even after only 1 year with them. I always thought he was good for Ireland as well, despite playing up front and only scoring 3 goals.

He was never really a goal scorer, more so playing behind the striker during his time at Arsenal when he got a chance. Had a few bad knee injuries at really unfortunate times when it looked like he'd start to break into the team regularly.

Even his best game for Arsenal against Liverpool in the League Cup at Anfield, he only scored 1 but assisted 4 IIRC. Destroyed the Liverpool defence that night.

Goal of the season in either 88/89 or 89/90. I used to have it in a VHS years ago. All the best goals from the season.

Volley from the edge of the box into the top corner. Yellow nets in Carrow Road. Old school stanchions.

Cool

I know the goal. It appears that Mr Rosario dined out on that goal and secured a few more contracts because of it.

Andy Smith.

After 31 goals in 64 league games for Glentoran, he got a move to PNE. They soon lent him out to Stockport, Motherwell and Cheltenham, before signing permanently for Bristol City. In all, he played 34 league games during this time, without scoring even a single goal.

During this time he played 18 times for NI, again without ever scoring, though tbf, tthis was mostly under Sammy McIlroy, under whom Messi or Ronaldo would have struggled to get on the scoresheet.
