Kicked off today all matches (I believe) on sky sports.

Hosts Cameroon (though losing as I type) and defending champions Algeria and Senegal favourites to lift trophy

One thing I always wonder what is the feeling towards the AFCON in French league.

There's always uproar in Premier league towards it as teams lose perhaps 2 or 3 players. There must be a few in French league who lose more. (for example Saint Étienne have 7 players gone to the tournament)

2-1 to Cameroon at half time.

League of Ireland might be represented later with Roberto Lopes part of the Cape Verde squad who play Ethiopia at 7pm

Ya he starts for them. Good for the league to see anyone playing international football. They have had some decent results of the last while too.

Won 1-0 , depending on other results in competition might be enough for 3rd place in the group and a place in the next round.

If i'm honest I can't see either Cabo Verde or Ethiopia taking any points from either Cameroon or Burkino Faso but you never know.

4 games tomorrow

Senegal v Zimbabwe
Guinea v Malawi
Morocco v Ghana
Comoros v Gabon

Won't pay the subscription for the Indo so haven't seen his diary with Dan McDonnell but after listening to him on OTB on Saturday it sounds like his preparation for it has been chaotic; manager still in Cape Verde and his original roommate and the replacement both tested positive.

For those unaware the Ref blew the Final whistle in the 88th minute , talk Ref was suffering from heat stroke and got confused, other reports stating he just really needed to go and was suffering from stomach cramps and didn't want to do a Gary Lineker.

Does seem a bit dodgy though as Ref had previously been linked to match fixing issues.

The standard (as usual) is absolutely horrific. Ive watched 3/4 games.

Time to scrap it.

Top 4 African teams should play in the Euros.

Waste of time.

Agreed,

What games have you watched btw, because I think some of the games have been great. I'd also argue that some of the games during the Euro's last year were horrendously bad Austria v Ukraine and Spain v Sweden for example.

As Double Maxim pointed out the way Algeria have played so far has been a surprise , Ivory Coast dropping points to Sierra Leone too was a shock result but also a pretty decent game.

Fair enough, I thought it was a decent game. Yes there was the clanger from the Ivorian keeper but again there was similar keeper mistakes during the Euros too.

I would actually like to know who you'd classify too as the top 4 African teams.

Because at the moment by Fifa rankings it's
Senegal
Morocco
Algeria
Tunisia

Of those 4 only Morocco have picked up maximum points.

OK well then let me re ask my question as you never really answered it, how would you determine who are the Top 4 African teams??

The semi finalists of the previous AFCON, Algeria (champions), Senegal (runner up) , Nigeria (3rd Place) Tunisia (4th place)

Again of those 4 Nigeria are the only one's not to drop points so far this tournament.

They only officially joined Fifa and Caf in 2009 I believe, in terms of the country as a whole think they got their independence in the 70s though they spent the next 40 odd years in turmoil with several coups to take control.

This was their first qualification for the tournament overall so beat Ghana is massive. It might also be enough to qualify for the next round too, if results go their way over the next two days.

Wonder if they'll be able to bounce back from this for the World Cup. 35 game unbeaten run before this disaster. Looked like the World Cup would be the last big chance for Slimani, Feghouli and Brahimi but it feels like it's come a couple of years too late. Wouldn't be surprised to see them be used exclusively from the bench.

Yeah they had some run, think a lot of it ran through Mahrez, draw for World Cup Playoffs happens tomorrow so will be interesting to see who they get, pots below, would say majority of Pot 1 would be looking to avoid Egypt and Cameroon, with DR Congo being most of their wishes

Pot 1
Senegal
Morocco
Tunisia
Algeria
Nigeria

Pot 2
Egypt
Cameroon
Ghana
Mali

Yeah Nigeria only team with 100% record so far, Cameroon being hosts look tough to beat, on opposite sides of the draw so I wouldn't rule out them meeting in the final.

Senegal still high up in most bookies odds, but they'll need to start scoring goals, though defensively they've done well, though maybe not really tested.

Ivory Coast looked decent against Algeria yesterday very dangerous in attack but a bit suspect defensively they'll play Egypt who haven't really hit their gear yet, that could be a cracker imo.

Looking like Comoros will have to play an outfield player in goal tonight after their 1st choice keeper got injured in the last group game and both 2nd and 3rd choice keepers have tested positive for Covid

One of the keepers tested negative on secondary test so looks like they'll be ok

Another twist on this, Ahamada has to complete quarantine, so they're back playing with an outfield player.

Captain sent off after 7 minutes as well. Doing well to still be 0-0 after 20 minutes.

Such a shambles of a tournament, refs definitely on the take. Those 2 reds were never reds. Theres been by my count 12 reds in total, several of them straight reds and almost all them questionable.

Mental. I fancied Senegal to win the afcon but haven’t been impressed at all, full of good players but struggling to beat 9 men Cape Verde.

Cape Verde with 14 players and 4 staff suffering from food poisoning as well, Lopes threw up in the tunnel at half time and had to come off.
