Choosing to do this one over Ukraine the following week. Won't be able to get the time off 2 weeks in a row unfortunately.

Best I can see at the moment is about €320.
Going out with one stop getting in the Sunday evening, but 2 stops coming back.

The way things are going, Vladimir might end up taking that decision out of our hands anyway. 😳

Is that via Warsaw? very little time between the connecting flights?

We're choosing this one ourselves over doing Ukraine and can't do both unfortunately. Flights are a bit pricey but hotels seem to be extremely cheap(currently).

Didn't get the chance to go back in 2012 so looking forward to this one..

I had a nosey at flights yesterday for a random date in early June and I was seeing that tight connection at Warsaw - only 50 minutes. Not sure I'd chance that even if on the same booking.

Plenty of seasonal routes will be available for this from main European airports. Most start up in March / April.

Won't be booking flights myself until new year but will sort out hotels with free cancellation in the next few days

2010 was a great trip over there so will definitely be looking at getting back over for this.

Out - Dublin  - Vienna - Yerevan
Back - Yerevan - Kiev - Gatwick - Dublin

I am on the Warsaw flight.  Agree it is really tight.  However I expect a good few will be on the flight with a through ticket.  If the Dublin flight is late they will most likely hold the Yerevan flight rather than have to put 20-30 people up in a hotel overnight.

Not ideal and risky but best I could find this morning.

Isn't there 2 airports in Warsaw, one is an hour from the city and very very small so be careful with connections lads

Thats Modlin airport - and yes, it's very small. Only used by the likes of Ryanair though so if you're flying with LOT (as I will be), then you'll just be connecting at the main airport.

Yes but definitely the main airport here.  The concern is the very tight connection.  So it is important to be on one ticket.  So if your Dublin flight is delayed LOT have to put you in a hotel and feed you or delay the Yerevan flight.  The more of us on the route the easier that decision becomes.

Plenty reasonable routes home for this for about the €100 and at decent enough times but routes out aren’t as good. Should be a cracking trip.

i was out with celtic a few years ago and more recent than most last trip

stayed in the double tree lovely hotel wasnt too expensive

the ararat distillery for any brandy drinkers is a must its a fair walk in the heat but a cab would be reasonable enough, it is lovely gear and thats from a whiskey drinker

drinks in the square were reasonable, up by the stadium we found a little deli inside a supermarket  that done local kebabs which were amazing and had plenty chilled beer at a reasonable price

brilliant trip and hopefully get back in June

I think I'll have to skip this one unfortunately. I just can't find a decent route home. I don't mean in terms of price, just convenience. All the routes home seem to involve leaving Armenia somewhere from 2am - 6am with a fairly lengthy stopover somewhere along the way. I just am not doing that sh*te anymore. At least I was there last time so it's not like I'm missing out on a new destination.

Wizz have ditched their Sunday Vienna-Yerevan flight. Right pain in the arse, since we already booked the Dublin-Vienna leg as well.
Would rather not book the route via Kyiv, since no-one can be sure if they'll actually run or not.

To be honest , i think it's best to book Wizz a few weeks out as how many on here have been caught out with them changing or canning flights .

Probably not much more return. Return fares with your traditional flag carriers and usually a lot better value than one way fares.

You could go to Bratislava and fly wizz to Kiev and Kiev to Yerevan Sunday evening with Pacific airways for less than €90. But there's a few ***
* Number 1 you need to go Bratislava ( no big deal really)
* Number 2 you need to change airports in Kiev.
* Number 3 neither airport might exist by then

Looking at this myself....one way to Yerevan, then a cheap flight (theyre less than €50) to Kiev and get that game in aswell. Are ye thinking there  will be issues in Kiev?

Whats liklihood of getting tickets? Never been to an away

Edit: Having read the Ukraine thread I see there are issues with venue and just Ukraine in general....might just book the one way to Armenia to start.

Won't be any issue with tickets given the far-flung nature of the destinations

Look at booking KLM home from Ukraine if you're worried about venue change, they allow you change flights/get a voucher up to the day of the flight.

I took the plunge and booked this route. As you said in your pm reply to me recently Gary, if there's enough of us on the same route and on the same booking, the airline has to look after us and will most likely delay the onward flight for us. Thumbs Up

Booked this today. Going from Cork to Yerevan via Paris, with the same route back and having to stay one night in Paris on the return. Wasn't cheap but with 4 matches in 10 days I wanted travel to be as direct as possible. Will hold off booking Ukraine until Venue is confirmed.

Had a good look at this route myself, there was an option with a 50m layover on the return leg which just isn't possible in CDG. However I think I'll look to fly from Dublin the day after the Ukraine game and fly back into Dublin for the Scotland game.

Aegean fares on the Sunday have dropped a bit.  Some decent priced options, albeit with two stops.
Dublin-Geneva-Athens-Yerevan can be had for €160 odd.

We've went for flights via Milan.  Get to spend the day in town there, with a short stop in Athens on the way to Yerevan.
Paris, Prague, Amsterdam, Madrid, Vienna, Zürich, Bucharest amongst the options.

With departures from Yerevan at stupid O'Clock your best bet would be to grab a hotel in Warsaw Airport for a few hours.

The home game is the kicker on this trip, there's a great flight out of Paris on the Saturday gets you into Yerevan around 5.30. But of course it means missing the home game

The scheduling is such a balls.  In the old Fixtures Meeting days Kiev and Yerevan would definitely have been a back to back double header and an epic away trip.  Cry

Looks like Kiev is going to have to do for me.

The thing is on the 14 of January 2020 Ryanair announced 6 new routes to Armenia. 4 to Yerevan from Rome, Berlin, Milan and Thessaloniki and 2 to Gyumri From Athens and Munich these were cancelled once the pandemic struck, I wonder is there any chance of them being re-introduced if this covid thing relaxes. It's not even about the price it's the current flying times are awful.  Out of the three main low-cost carriers that have served or currently serve Armenian Airports just one new route announcement from either Ryanair, Wizzair or Eurowings could be a game changer for us.

Even if they did give you a decent time no guarantee it will remain like that’s - in the past week Ryanair easyJet and aer Lingus have all shifted / cancelled flights likely to fill up planes

It's not even about the price it's the current flying times are awful.  Out of the three main low-cost carriers that have served or currently serve Armenian Airports just one new route announcement from either Ryanair, Wizzair or Eurowings could be a game changer for us.
Got paid today so sat down this evening to work out the best route out I could find. I’ve already booked my way back to include 2 days in Vilnius but getting any round for under €200 on the Sunday is proving very difficult. Some ok ones involving Kiev but would rather avoid using Ukraine. Would be bad enough if Putin messed up two away trips never mind one!

Ukraine home is killing options for this trip, I’ve a good route back to Shannon straight after the game so that’s sorted, but I’d want to be getting there at a reasonable time Sunday then, which is impossible if I go to Ukraine at home

No it's not, I have found a route from Dublin to Yerevan with two layovers leaving on the sunday and arriving in Yerevan for 20:30 Sunday evening. I'm not saying the route is ideal or anything, just saying it's possible. For some reason the route does not show up on Skyscanner.

As I said it's not a great option price wise but if your not living in Dublin and heading to the Ukraine home game it will save you the price of a hotel in Dublin or going to Coppers on the Saturday night.
Dublin to Chisinau with HiSky airlines and the Chisinau to Yerevan via Moscow with Flyone.

Kev keep an eye on Dublin = Keiv and Keiv = Yerevan as you may get in to Yerevan at a decent time if another flight shows up in Spring time .

Is that route back Yerevan - Vilnius , Vilnius - Stansted , Stansted - Shannon? Price is very tempting but 00.05 flight to Vilnius very tight if game kicks off at 9pm local time.

I think it's an 8pm ko local time but even then you would never make that midnight flight - when you factor in the time it takes to get from the stadium back to the hotel in town to collect your belongings and then get to the airport and then through security, passport control etc. I'd forget about that itinerary if I were you tbh.

Game kicks off at 8.00, finished 9.45-10.00, google maps says 27 minute walk from stadium to hotel I’m in so would be doable in 15, 15 minute drive from there, latest I see myself being in airport is 11.00 which should be enough time to get through security there, but I will look more into it before booking anything and wait and see if any other routes pop up.

Really tight with holidays for this one which is the only reason I’m looking into it, would be back wfh for a half day on the Wednesday. Also Wizz air could easily change the time and date of that route, although they already have once.

Was there just before the pandemic, got to the terminal an hour beforehand and was okay. Make sure you get dropped at the right terminal, we weren't and had to wait for a bus.

It would have been ideal if the Armenia & Ukraine games were consecutive 3/4 days apart as it's taking an awful chunk of annual leave Unhappy

I'm considering flying back on the Wednesday to save two days and work them but I think it's way way too tight to be flying home 2/3 hours after the game has ended. There's no comfort in that and it's a fair distance away too.

Anyone working Monday-Friday really needs to take at least 3 days off for this match.

Six months notice , Scotland the other away,  not ideal  especially with the schedule but  6 days AL to cover both games not the end of the world .

Ah grand, have booked the unique hotel looks about 10 mins walk from Republic Square. The Stadium seems to be in a great location too for handiness of getting to and from!

Pool is essential. Booked the best western myself. For those that are fond of the water should look to do a trip to lake Sevan. I put it into the Yandex taxi app to see how much the fare would be and it was less than €12 for a 55 min drive to the lake.

Good spot alright, so bring your togs. We were a little more adventurous the last time there and if you are staying a few days and want an overnight plus take in the countryside, head to Meghri. It's about 10k from Iran, but the countryside is spectacular. Go on the mountain roads in a local taxi or dodgey driver in the black leather jacket,  and you'll see Iran, or in our case went back roads to a village just inside their border.  Yerevan to Meghri takes about 7 hours  to get there on a bus or better still get a " masrukta".

Looking at that myself, gets you into Yerevan at a decent time too as opposed to 4am. Could even chance a pint when you arrive

Is that the route with Air France? Was fairly costly when I was looking at it. Decent flight times tho

Was looking at this from Cork via CDG. Decent times my only issue was the 50 minute layover in CDG on the way back. I know 50 minutes is not possible in CDG so what will air France offer me? The flight the next day is no good to me so would they put me on the KLM flight via Amsterdam or Fly me to Dublin?

We have that booked for the way back (technically have booked Yerevan-CDG-Lille (by train), saves a good bit by tacking on the rail section.
Had a connection to Belfast International with easyJet, but that's now been shifted to an earlier time, so re-assessing our options.

Very handy that Air France/KLM have free cancellation.

Just throwing it out here, have been looking at flights over the last week or so and they seem to be creeping up by the hour.

Anyone reckon more routes will be offered later in the year at more reasonable rates or should we just bite the bullet and book it now?

That's the million dollar question.
Ive looked into flying into Gyumri( Armenia)  Ìgdir (Turkey), Maku (Iran). I've looked at doing layovers in Cairo, Sharm el Sheikh, Beirut, Aleppo and Sochi. I've looked into places wizz air havn't even heard of to come up with a decent route but all have come up blank. Even Flyone are flying from Dublin to Yerevan direct starting the 15th of June.
Personally I'm going to leave it a few weeks before making a call on this one.

It's a right balls aye, considering countries are coming out of lockdowns and airlines back on their feet etc, hard to know. Cairo and Sharm el Sheikh would be a wild stopover now LOL
