There has been lots of sensationalist garbage written about these insects over the past decade, they do have a relatively potent sting and can cause allergic reactions for a small number of people (as can native wasps and bees). However ther real issue is they devastatingly prey on honeybees. A handful of these things can literally kill 100s of bees in a single attack. They were introduced accidentally to France in the early 2000s and they've since spread all over continental Europe. | No idea what it was, but saw the biggest wasp/bee/hornet I'd ever seen in my house last summer, thing was the length of a matchbox. Thankfully he flew out the door, wanted nothing to do with him |
