Made his senior league debut for Derby today in the Championship I believe.

18 year old from Wexford, has played well at the European Championships for our youth teams.

Primarily a pacy winger, but can play right back as well.  Should have a good future in the game, and at a club where Wayne Rooney is not afraid to trust young players, as we've seen with Jason Knight.

He played v well in those U17 games and he was called up to train with the 21s there in Wales, if I recall.
Should be on the periphery of the 21's squad in the upcoming campaign, which would be excellent progress as he's well below the age limit for it.

Knight got a break I think he needs it tbh. 3 teenagers on the pitch today in that game at the end not including Knight. When’s the last time that happened for Ireland at PL or Championship level?

Great question, might be the first time in a long while. Best I have is the following

Alan Maybury(19) and Stephen McPhail(18) Saturday, 7th February 1998 Premier League Leicester City 1-0 Leeds United
Shane Supple(19) and Billy Clarke(18) Saturday, 21st October 2006 Championship Southend United 1-3 Ipswich
Mark O'Brien(19) and Jeff Hendrick(19) Saturday, 26th October 2011 Championship West Ham United 3-1 Derby County
Sean Murray(18) and Connor Smith(19) Saturday, 29th September 2012 Championship Huddersfield 2-3 Watford

Played for Moyne here in Wexford top top young fella everyone has only good words to say despite being from enniscorthy
Went over as a winger now playing full back
Could be wrong but derby had a brilliant under 18 team year or two ago I think challenged for the league that are coming through now

Had an excellent season for the Derby Under 23s last season and was one of the favourites from their youth team to break into their senior team this year. Has had a really difficult season with injuries though this year (similar to almost every young Irish player it feels) so it has taken until now for him to feature in the league.

Similar to Omobamidele at Norwich it would be good if Derby could confirm their league status sooner rather than later as that might mean he gets a run of games before the end of the season with an eye on the future.

He has the makings of an excellent right wing back if things fall his way.

Not too sure he has the end product of a winger perfect as a right midfielder in a 4-4-2 or would be a good wing back
He was awful against chorley in the fa cup but tough circumstances

Nice so essentially the first time you can find 3 Irish teenagers on the pitch together at the same time?

I don't know about ever, I have appearance data for all premier league games, and some league cup and fa cup games up until 2006, and then pretty much all games after that.
So I'd be pretty confident it's the only time it's happened in the last 15 years.

You'd think Ebosele could be seeing the chance for a fair amount of game time in the Championship this season, given the threadbare nature of Rooney's squad.

He definitely will, Watson too ..and probably Cashin as well as they've only 1 fit central defender at present.

Even Ibrahim and Kelly-Caprani will probably be in the frame for cups games and minutes here and there throughout the season.

Kelly Caprani sounds like the name of a famous African American Pop singer not a young Irish footballer.

Big young Irish contingent at Derby so hopefully they plenty of them will get a look in this season. Ebosele along with Knight and Watson of course the obvious standout to get gametime.

game time is great but Derby look doomed without even kicking a ball so our lads are gonna get a pretty rude awakening to senior football…

I wouldn't worry too much about that from our point of view. Luca Connell's half season in the first team taking beatings every week in the Championship were a lot more use to him than his two years since with Celtic. First team game time is the main thing for these lads if they can get it.

Just seen that Festy got on in the 68th minute for Derby today against Huddersfield.
Derby County may be a club with a lot of problems, but they have so few players that if you are half decent you'll get plenty of game time.

Anyone see the game, and how he played?

Seen the last 15mins or so, practically no involvement from what I seen. Hopefully gets more game time as you say.

I was watching and he made his preseence felt right when he came on with some bursting runs.
Faded out nearer the end but his pace is eye-watering.
They had him on the left-wing and then when attacking a set-piece, deploy him as the last man as he can chase down anyone.

I think he'lll get plenty of games this season.

Banker for the 21's squad in a few weeks.

Rooney on Ebosele: "It would criminal, in my opinion, to use his skill set at right back. He needs a lot of work. And we're doing a lot of work with him. If we get it right, he'll be a very good player for us."

Fair assessment, I think. Rooney might know little or nothing about anything other than football but that is his specialist subject and he is probably right about Festy. And Knight, who looks destined for the Premiership and a long international career with Ireland.

Mixed feelings about this. A big, fast right footed lad playing LW is always going to cause trouble for a right footed right back and can be very effective. But will it be best for his development? Not sure. As long as he’s getting game time it will be something

Just love this guy.
And I'd like to see Derby make a fist of doing OK this seeason (despite the major issues at the club) and Rooney sticks around as he's a great asseet for our young players to have.

Knight coming back fit wil be a nice boost for them.

my thinking with Ebosele is he can be a top class full back/wing back especially a modern game full back. I dont know can he be a top class winger. He has some turn of pace.

Impressed with Rooney he really seems to have a good eye for developing players.

Festy Ebosele 8

Was the pick of Derby's players when the team struggled in the opening half an hour and continued to catch the eye with his strong surges from right back. The fans thoroughly enjoyed his all-action performance.

Watched the highlights. I see exactly the hype about him pace is incredible.

Rooney makes a very good point about him having the attributes to play on the wing but not entirely unlike Omar Richards at Reading getting a big transfer to Bayern this summer I could see big clubs looking at Ebosele thinking “god we can make a top class modern attacking full back out of him”.

Not to overhype and I hope he stays at Derby and just gets plenty gametime for the moment/this season. Rooney/Derby have been very good to Ireland the last year.

Could be Wexford's next representative in the Ireland senior team.

Kevin Doyle was the last.

I can't think of any others off the top of my head.

There's a good mix of players from all over the country in recent squads, long may it continue.

Great to see isn’t it Sheer volume of young players that played the weekend was positive too. Championship clubs being pretty cash strapped is going to really benefit us I think in the next 3/4 years as regards getting all these lads gametime at such a decent level.

Bournemouth Cardiff and Derby really showcased that over the weekend.

Derby fans are really singing his praises on twitter. Some people saying he is the most exciting player they've seen come through at Derby for years, others comparing him to Adama Traore in how he plays.

Derby may struggle this season but it's almost set up to be a perfect breakthrough season for Festy, one game in and he has already impressed, fans and manager both seem to like him, plus due to Derby's financial situation they are likely to be giving youth a big chance this season.

Agree based on today's game.
Very raw but has qulities defenders hate and liked to have them turning back towards their own goals.
Be a great season for him if he can get a good few starts.

Nathan Byrne out today be interesting to see will Ebosele get a run as a RB. I think he has enormous potential as a modern day attacking FB with his attributes. Even more so as a RWB in the system we play.

Exciting wide player, twill be interesting to see how the full back experiment is going at Derby. It's a shame Derby dont play with wing backs, think he'd be much better suited to a wing back role.

Have a read of this thought it was interesting. Ebosele caught a lot for eyes Saturday. He reminds me a bit of Omar Richards for Reading who got snapped up by Bayern Munich.

Not saying Ebosele will get snapped up by them but I do see him as a type that has all the attributes needed in a modern day attacking full back. I wonder will a big club in the 2/3 years scout him and think the same.

Be interesting to see does he get the nod tonight. We are lucky with Derby and Rooney. Slide tackle on Knight aside he/they have been very good to Irish youngsters.

With Coleman's hamstring issues and not starting two games in four days we'll need to start looking at others who can come in wants he retires soon. Why not get Festy into the squad next March to see what he's like.

One of Kioso or McNamara should really be seeing game time next year though with the Euros probably being Coleman's last campaign.

Was at the stoke v Derby game. He came on in the second half . Played excellently. Fast as lighting. Derby fans love him, singing his name throughout. If this guy keeps improving then he gets a call up. Great to see

Derby fans appear to be raving about him alright. Interestingly, I saw a few Stoke fans admiring/fearing him too. This lad has enormous potential

Having an amazing game today against Coventry in the cup. Just his final ball leaving him down.
(ESPN +3 for those on IPTV )

From the 20 minutes I have seen of this he's playing dynamite but just the final ball is slightly lacking. He's a kid so plenty time to develop that.

I can see a big club looking at him in the next 18 months and thinking (we can make an all merciful wing back/full back out of him) in the mould of Adama Traore at Wolves. He'd remind you of him slightly. Hopefully his end product develops to be superior to Traores in time.

Serious strength, power and pace there.

Beats four men!

Impressive.

And the pass with that composure was very impressive.

I think he should be in the senior squad, everytime I have seen him play, he has been impressive.

Let him develope with the 21s he won't get a game for Seniors.

Huge potential but don't think he's ready for senior international football yet. Anytime I've seen him play he's been impressive, he is possibly the quickest Ireland player I've ever seen and that alone will worry opposing defenders. Big hopes for this lad.

I'd say he beat four men there - knocked one off the ball, spun away from another and then skinned two more before playing the pass. It was a great piece of play.

I'd be happy enough to leave him with the 21s for now, but if he keeps developing at the rate he is going he could be capped before the year is out. I'm not entirely sure where he would best fit in our team - possibly as a wing back, or maybe further forward off the bench similar to what Ogbene has brought to the team.

Think it's quite obvious where he fits in as a wing back mainly possibly as an option off the bench late too. Fact he played LB today and played well potentially makes him an option at LWB too (we have far better if slighly aging options in Coleman and Doherty at RWB) he's tailor made for it. Even though I feel he should have played the ball to the guy on his left as opposed to the guy on his right the pass to the player on his right was a lovely pass inch perfect.

Bodes well this lad could go far with his pace alone (see Traore for this) but the key is adding end product too. He's 19 so still very young can add this overtime.

Id leave him with the u21s for now but if he continues to progress as fast as he is then he probably will be capped sooner rather than later.

Had our fixture schedule been similar to last year with qualifiers in March and friendlies in June you probably would have had a good squad of young lads given their debuts in a summer camp.

But with the NL in June and Sept they'll probably have to wait until October/November friendlies in the pre World Cup friendlies.

Coleman is fairly struggling at the moment.

He is. Hence the aging part. Seamus is 33yo especially in the full back position he's not getting any younger. Equivalent of a 37yo CB or a 40yo Goalkeeper to my mind in longevity. He'd be stretching to even do the 2024 Euros if we make it.

Him and Doherty still play at a far higher level then our LWB options.

Add Idah into the mix there too. As far as I can remember he had considerable success in underage athletics.

It will be some team of Irish/Nigerian heritage in a few years. Bazunu, Omobamidele, Ebosele, Ogbene, Idah/Obamfemi could realistically all find themselves on the pitch at same time at some stage if their careers keep progressing as they are.

Adaramola, Lawal, Kayode, Oko-Flex, Odubkeo and Adedokun could all be full internationals too. Our Nigerian population are really making their mark now!

It's incredible really - apparently there are only around 20,000 Nigerian-Irish people altogether, so it's the equivalent of a mid sized provincial town like Ennis or Longford or Castlebar producing that many international footballers.

The inward migration of Nigerians to the country declined massively after the citizenship laws changed around 2006 though, so it may just be a short period where all these players come through. Will be interesting to see if the Polish and other Eastern European communities that developed in the country after that will filter through the age groups in the next few years.

They already are beginning to appear in u15/16/17s age groups.

Those of African/Nigerian decent started to move to Ireland in the early to mid 90s so have had a head start on the other communities.

Eastern Europeans like the Polish, Lithuanians, Latvians etc.. didn't really begin to move here until after they joined the EU in 2004 so their children are few years younger.

Festy seems to be playing really well. He was only a sub last time out with the U21. We play a flat back 4 with O'Connor at right back, who seems to be fancied due to his experience. Adding Festy's pace on the right side, and maybe Oko-flex on the left wing would really make us a threat!

Conor Coventry and Gavin Kilkenny seem to be the preferred choice for central midfield for the U21's. Good that competition for places is hotting up though!

I'd agree with dropping Coventry for Smallbone if fit and featuring for So'ton.
O'Connor as cover for Kilkenny.
The CAM role, if you like, is a bit open with Tierney yet to establish himself in Scotland and Noss never playing senior football.  Devoy's season will have only started also and Johansson's loan is stalled.
So, opportunties there.

Back to Festy.  He has to play - put him as one of  the wingers either side of Ferguson.
Lad is a rough diamond and the crowd will love him.

Great to see a few lads coming on the scene with real pace. Our squads havent been blessed with many quick lads down the years.

True-ish in recent years.   Though in about 2014, 2015, 2016 we had the fastest and third fastest players in the PL (Long and McClean reached those speeds, respectively, I think Bellerin was no 2 from memory).

Obafemi has pace, but has issues with injuries and possibly attitude.   On the bench for Swansea.

Festy looks good attitude-wise and his pace and strength speak for themselves.  He's shown great enthusiasm right through our age groups, including perhaps being too enthusiastic and getting sent off for our U17s a while back at the Euros. He's looked like a good player for Ireland ever since he was 15/16 and will be raising a lot of interest with assists like the one the other day (count it - he took 6 of their 10 outfield players out of the game!).

Plenty of interest in Ebosele. Clubs in England, Italy, and Germany showing interest. Nottingham Forest had a 500k bid turned down by the player. He's out of contract in the summer.

Djed Spence is on loan there at Forest from Boro. Don't know if they have agreed a few to sign him permanently or not but he was great against Arsenal in the Cup and I could see them not retaining him. They play with wing backs under Cooper who likes the wing back. It could be interesting option for Festy.

This should be an interesting time for him as he will surely leave unless they complete the great escape but I would imagine Rooney would be snapped up if they do pull that off. Hopefully Festy has a good agent.

Pretty much 3rd choice goalkeeper money in this day and age.

Probably just chancing their arm with the player out of contract and it was made last week before both teams played at weekend for added sh*thousary.

Twitter rumours last week had Leeds being interested in him when talking about their interest in Knight.
