Too soon?

General consensus was that tickets for this final group game would be hard to come by if Ireland were still in contention to qualify.  Sad to say this is no longer the case.

So assuming we are allowed to travel and attend away games by then, is anyone else still going to go?

100% going if allowed to.

Date Posted: 28 Mar 2021 at 1:56pm
Yeah will definitely go, but if you were a causal attendee at away games I could see why people wouldn't be bothered going.

Tickets definitely won't be an issue here now I'd say

Have a cheap flight booked for it already and will be going if Covid allows. If I wanted to support a team from an armchair for the glory I would pick a premiership side

100% will travel if we allow to attend the game as an Ireland fan you get used to attending dead rubber matches at the end of a campaign

Yeah, same as me.  Cancelable hotel booked pretty much as soon as the draw was made and the fixture dates confirmed.

Good to know I won't be alone in Luxembourg.  Right now I'm more concerned about will I be able to travel to Dublin than Luxembourg to be honest.

Hotel booked months ago for it but won't book flights yet until the summer all going well (covid wise).

It might be a dead rubber regarding qualification but at least it'll more likely a decider for third place which is important for our seedings.

I would have thought there’d be a pent up demand for the next away trip given what we have gone through the last year regardless of it being a dead rubber.

Hopefully things work out between now and then. The soviet countries have been playing with crowds Ive noticed but would have thought that Azerbaijan away is a longer shot as outside of EU.

I suppose the European group stages will use up a fair few games and have to factor in for days off for after the cup final win and winning the league too. If Ollie has taught us one thing no matter how good the performance it is never really that good.

Anyone want to start a YouTube channel? Seems like Covid regulations don’t apply to them if you can go to Serbia and Hungary within 6 days. Maybe it’s within the rules but doesn’t seem very essential

Correct. Not sure what the rules are exactly but with a 14 day quarantine in place it seems a bit much to be able to go to Serbia and Hungary in one week. If it’s all by the book then fair enough but when other journalists deemed travelling wasn’t essential that all the work could be done at home it seems a bit much.

Don't think they broke regulations but open to correction, if they had came back to the game in the Aviva they would have been breaking regulations. Suppose they are classed as media now, not sure any other journalists travelled to the games abroad though.

Ryanair fly direct but unless they're asleep at the wheel like Aer Lingus were with the Vienna flights a few years ago probably better off going through Brussels. Frankfurt Hahn an option don't know if there's any bus connections to Luxembourg though

They definitely not asleep on the wheel over €200 already for that direct flight. Loads of options available though can book with lufthansa into Luxembourg with connecting flight in Germany for decent price. Travel will be easy to sort for this 1

When I was looking into it I think the trains from Cologne were going every hour and working out shorter also so that’s what swung the decision was originally going to book Frankfurt. As far as I could make out there was no direct trains from either city

Flix bus used to run from Hahn and Charleroi to Luxembourg. Could be different since covid hit but worth checking out. Paid 5 euro for the bus from charleroi to Luxembourg a few years back.

The trains from Germany to Luxembourg travel through the beautiful moselle valley. Went in the opposite direction for our game in gelsenkirchen all those years ago. A very nice trip.

Yeah there definitely used to be a Hahn to Lux flixbus. I'm not sure if there still is. I wouldn't be flying to Amsterdam for this one. Brussels is a far better bet.

In terms of trains from Brussels, they run hourly, it's €28.20 each way, there's no advance purchase savings, and it takes about three hours. There's no catering on board so stock up in advance.

From Frankfurt or Cologne, it takes about three and a half or four hours and usually involves a change or possibly two (usually in Koblenz). It is potentially marginally cheaper than the Brussels option with advance purchase tickets from €22.90 each way; full price tickets are about €50 each way though, so it makes sense to pre-book.

There are loads of options for it anyway.

I haven't booked anything yet or looked into it in too much detail but I will once things are a bit clearer.

Wouldn't worry too much about that another few weeks the Mediterranean countries will be pushing for EU travel to save their tourism season. I'd be confident we will be in Luxembourg so much so I booked my flights the other day.
More confident of this now..

1,000 (a guess) of us in Luxembourg on a cold Sunday night in November..... can't wait

Portugal will be good to go as soon as the Irish government allows. It’s one of the lowest infection rates in the EU, among other factors. It’s more what the Portuguese will do with a crowd.

Looks like end of June being pencilled in for international travel by the Irish government atm. Hope they're not going to insist on people having full tests even from 'safe' countries regardless of vaccination status as the British government seems to be planning on doing (for arrival in the UK).

And hopefully the Portuguese will give us plenty of notice if we can go.

They sell a quare drink at their games in Luxembourg. It's kinda like half lager half coke mixed together. Couldn't get my head around it.

A few weeks ago I'd have said might be too soon, but could be just the right time. Portugal seem to be ploughing on with reopening and then it'll be a question of travel from here. Hopeful

I was introduced to something similar by the Belgium fans in Bordeaux during Euro 2016. So offended by French beer, they were putting a coke head on their beers, and fair play, it wasn't as bad as I had assumed.

Do you think PCR tests will still apply even if you have been fully vaccinated, come August/September?

For anyone interested in beer the town of Bitburg home of Bitburger Pils is only 50 kms from Luxembourg and is easily accessible by bus for a few euro. The brewery tour (temporarily closed) is cheap at around a tenner and you get 2 beers there plus vouchers for 3 beers in pubs in the town itself included in the admission price. Might be worth keeping in mind.all things going well.

There has been a slight price drop on the direct Ryanair (Friday - Monday), down from 200 to 150 approx.

I booked a seat and there was only about 6-8 others booked, so still plenty space.

A likely flight to be cancelled if loads that low!

Still plenty of time though.
