Anyone ever see his architecture programme on RTE?
The sh*te designs he fawns over Pure pretentious, over intellectualised rubbish.
Any of the stuff he designs looks like a shipping container. And he brings people to houses he thinks are nice and they are shocking.
Look at this kitchen. Looks like a staff kitchen that nurses would use in a hospital to make a cup of Bovril in

The boarded floor looks like it was pulled up from the local parish hall in the 1960s.

He was orgasming over that gaff with the auditorium, as he does for most of these so called homes he visits.
These places aren’t homes. Hollow, soulless buildings that give me the creeps. The type of place Patrick Bateman would reside.

The state of them. Sterile boxes. See the state of that bathroom with the lime green? Like something out of The Shining FFS and him w**king over it.
I remember seeing one episode about a year ago. Some couple hired him to re-do their gaff. Yer wan hated what he was coming up with and wouldn't go along with it
There's a gaff just built not far from me in a housing estate. Sticks out like a sore thumb from all the rest which are homogenous design. A shipping container stuck on the roof of a converted garage. Like something he'd come up with. Yes lets turn your semi detached run of the mill estate house into a freak show.

what does it matter what your house looks like from the outside. You live inside the house so whatever design that allows you to have a house that suits your needs is the correct one.

But we are commenting houses of people that have chosen to put them on display, so of course there will be a critique - inside or out.

Fair enough but the rebuttal to that is that the function of the house is what Bannon is after not what it looks like outside. Often these two things are in competition with each other. A nice looking house from the outside means it doesn’t work inside

I disagree. I dont forensically watch the show but those that i have viewed, i've seen him agonise over both internal and external aesthetics and functionality. Pantone of bricks and how to allow as much light in etc.

Yes getting the light in is key but in order to do that it means many of the houses look the same and would be considered ugly by trap junior and others.

I like my architecture to be of the Ye Olde British Colonial type
Though I am also a fan of Brutalism in the right context
Brutalism is actually the only major contribution to aesthetically pleasing architecture since Art Deco
It's the only non-brutal genre of modern architecture, which is a bit ironic

I guy I work with (American) thought it was odd we buy the most expensive home we can afford with little left over for upgrades. Say new Kitchen/ Bathroom/ Bar etc
In America they will hold back a significant amount for upgrades - make the inside how you want to live in it.

I'd say his bathrooms have the toilet hidden away and you have to access it by double pressing on an invisible door set into the wall with no handle. He probably has visitors to his house who come walking down the stairs with their trousers around their ankles telling him they can't find the bog roll because he has it hidden away

that’s your personal opinion I like the look of that house and plenty of light into the house too.
Most beautiful buildings are old buildings and look great from outside but very hard to get to work with modern tastes as they are dark inside. Not saying it’s impossible but it depends on what you like.
I would much rather than house than the bungalow blitz that blighted rural Ireland in 70s and 80s with long corridors and 4 or 6 bedrooms off the long corridor.
Nowadays people request big open living areas with kitchen and living area joined up and lots of light coming into it. That’s like the standard request and Bannon always delivers on that.
What a house looks like on the outside would be far down my list o criteria I must say.

What twaddle are you spouting? I have made no comment on any of the images you have posted or on Dermot Bannon's work. I was replying to Baldrick.
Architects want to make the interior and exterior as appealing as possible. Baldrick says that they will sacrifice the exterior as long as the interior is nice. Any architect would be trying to do both and would be aghast at the idea they would sacrifice one over the other.

Very good Baldie hard to disagree with anything you said . Again it's personal choice , i know people hate my house other think it would be impossible to live in due to the amount of glass and white walls . You would think there would be a law against putting a container on top of a bungalow as being a blight on the landscape. He's hardly handcuffed into producing something ugly.
His taste is shocking. He showed these ideal homes in Canada that were bloody awful tbh. He's fawning over this bit of wood above a door with holes drilled in it. Like a plain bit of pine with holes like Swiss cheese. I saw one episode where he was tyring to convince some couple to splurge 10,000-15,000 on this vile kitchen worktop. The houses he builds are not homes but some sort of minimalist modern art fiascos that aren't really designed to be lived in. They are cold communist creations made by the mind of the anti christ.

But can you describe what he has as taste? I would describe it as the workings of Satan.

I've yet to see one house he has done I have liked. Genuinely dislike that house he did there. Would be far happier in mine.

These architects are so used to sucking each others ballbags that they have lost all touch with reality and what people find beautiful. You only have to look at how Bannon fawns over some shipping container extension or block of boring steel to make do as a minimalist kitchen counter to see how out out of touch they are.
I saw him thinking this plank of wood with holes like swiss cheese in it was some sort of 'genius' concept because the light shone through it and make shadows on the wall.
Some of these ''award'' houses I would bulldoze down and start again if I was some rich ****. Wee Daniel O'Donnell sold his Bannon redesigned gaff a few months after completion.

Where did I say he hasn't a clue?
I said his taste is crap. You dont need to be qualified in architecture to be allowed say that despite what that bellend Fingers says. Its the public who decide if its nice or not, not pretentious architects who think they are abstract artists. How can someone be ''qualified'' in deciding what is beautiful?
Its ordinary ''unqualified'' people who have money that give these architects instructions on what they want and have to live with the design. Thaey are the boss. Not the architect. The architect has some poetic licence to work with but they are merely employees. So such and such a couple pay Bannon to design them something that THEY like where as Bannon comes back with his own ideas and tells them no this is what you should like. They say no and he still tries to bully them into his designs and taste in decor when they don't want it and are paying for it.

Eh
Think you are defeating your own claim there.
I am certainly within my rights to criticise his perception of what beautiful buildings look like.
That's a totally different matter to saying he doesn't know how to design houses.
I've never seen shipping container like architecture in any other country bar EIRE
