I think we've a decent chance of beating them even with the absentees.

he should just pick the whole rovers squad at this stage and be done with it.

Once there are no more problems with the squad (injuries, Covid related or other) I think it will be alright

In all honesty, who else does he call up? Apparently Knight and O'Shea from the 21s have already been contacted. There must be more to the Obafemi thing. You'd think now of all times he should be called up.

Expect James Collins and Jimmy Dunne to get called up too. Michael Duffy from Dundalk could be an outside bet.

Also, can Idah and Connolly come back into contention?

Finland 2 up now against Bulgaria.

We really need to win on Wednesday to have any chance of 2nd spot.

Ryan Manning should also be a no brainer

Ciaran Clark, Alan Judge? Experienced, not that old

If the 21s game is off on Tuesday then I'd call up all of the players with experience at Championship and Premier League level.

That would be O'Shea, Knight, Smallbone, Obafemi, Masterson and Collins.

We'll never have a better chance to integrate some of these lads into a senior squad for a competitive game.

Call them up and give ourselves options for future games,  with Covid here to stay for a few months we're going to need as big a playing pool as possible.

Hopefully we can get Connolly and Idah back too.

I like Shane long but I feel it is now time for obafemi to replace him in squad. Also Dara o'shea , Smallbone, Clark, Manning and Knight to come into the squad after Finland game. The last two games have been positive for the most part. We just need to push on and start taking our chances. Hopefully parrot will come back from injury and start to push on and score goals.

Greed has won, big finance has won. Whatever small role elite clubs still play in the local communities from which they grew is dwarfed now by their position as global brands.

Just checked FPL says Clark has a thigh injury 75% chance for Newcastle next weekend. So may not be doable for Wednesday.

Do think if he got game time this season he could have a future with us though

I think we should avoid calling up the likes of Colins and Judge, there are already better players, playing at higher levels in the 21s.

If you mean Obafemi, he isn't playing at any level he's benchwarmer. And he's very unproven, even Kenny doesn't rate him too highly.

Who are you referring to here ?

The U21s have the Italy match also, hardly fair to ruin their chances for a few lads who probably won't play

I'd be surpised if their game vs Italy takes place now.

Knight plays a similar position to Judge at a higher level.

Obafemi has played a number of Premier League games and has scored at that level. Collins will never do that.

Folan. Think he did alright when he came on vs Italy in Bari. Don't think he started that game from what I remember.

For a fairly tall fella, I don't remember Sammon winning anything in the air. It wasn't for lack of trying but he was nowhere near good enough for international level.

I'm confident we are due to click and no reason it won't happen this Wednesday.
Tomorrow should shed some light on the makeup of the squad and answer the Connolly/Idah question.
If both are available I'd say they will start so it's a big call.

FAI looking into it with UEFA if they can become available due to the test being a false positive.

Doubt their clubs would be all that happy though

Yeah, the FAI are looking into the situation with the two lads I believe.
I agree the main issue would be with their clubs - I'd say clubs are lookin on in some distress at what is unfolding here.
Having sad that, I can see no health reasons why they should not be allowed join up.

If we got those two back, and Knight and O'Shea, I'd say we will be looking good for Wednesday and I'd say all would start bar Knight.

Any word on who's being added to the squad?

Knight, Smallbone, Obafemi and Dara O'Shea, maybe even Nathan Collins or Masterson.

All have had lots of first team football in 2020; would like to see some of them called up for Finland.

That U21 squad has strength in depth and could cope with 2 or 3 out.

Dan McDonnell reporting that the squad won't fly to Finland now until Tuesday, were due to depart tomorrow. They're all being tested again tonight and want the results before they fly.

I'd assume also allows players to arrive tonight/ tomorrow morning into the squad and get tested

Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny has called five players into the squad for the UEFA Nations League match against Finland.

Would assume Brighton have said no, they don't want to take rhe risk and that he'll play for them next Sunday

Dont they have to release the player if called upon for a competitive game.

Jaysus does that mean Connolly wants to play or what. Strange for him to reply to FAI tweet like that, maybe he's not happy with a Brighton decision or something.

Not sure, I don't think they do given the current covid issues

Connolly has deleted that tweet...seemed an odd thing to do in the first place.
Best let Kenny explain his omission.

You'd wonder if he's been left out for disciplinary reasons?
He did tweet something the other day which called out the hse and fai protocol.

At least Kenny is getting a good look at a lot players in his first few months in charge! I think O'Shea might go straight into the starting XI, Kenny rates him from the 21s.

So no James Collins but Ronan Curtis,. why?

Assume these call ups are just bench filler aside from possibly Idah.

Quite simple really. He doesn’t fit Kennys template.

Kevin Long deserves another go if his swelling goes down, looked gutted to come off.

One thing that stands out is the willingness for players to happily return and play. Specifically talking about Idah and AC here. Despite the planes trains and covid they want to get back involved Clap

I’m surprised McGoldrick and McCarthy are in the squad list - I’d assumed they’d returned to clubs.

What is that exactly, strikers who can't score goals.
