Inspired by the best headers thread.

1. O’Leary v Romania
2. Harte v Iran
3. Keane v Spain
4. Aldo v Latvia (1992)
5. Walters v Bosnia.

Aldo’s in 1992 had skill, the rest had incredible importance.

Can't wait for the Best Throw-In Thread.

(Mick McCarthy for Ronnie Whelan's goal v USSR is the correct answer).

Brady in Brussels in 1986.
Last minute to secure 2-2 draw.

Best shielding of the ball was the Phil babb step over against Italy in wc 94, think baresi was chasing a ball into the box and babb looking like he was going to play and simply stepped over it and it yet out for a goal kick, you may close the thread now LOL

I'm aware you're taking the piss but I'm giving these a whack due to a sufficient level of boredom being attained.

Best Penalty: Robbie Keane vs Spain 2002 - in terms of pressure (Harte having missed one earlier, last minute of the game to stay in the WC) and execution under that pressure can't see how this can be topped.

Best pass: Hoolahan to McClean away to Austria 2016.

Best tackle: None spring to mind but probably something McGrath did during USA '94.

Best corner kick: Staunton home to NI 1993.

Best defensive header: See 'Best tackle'.

Best tracking back: Killer was always decent for the aul tracking back. Probably why his eventual move to full back confused him so much.

Best save: Shay Given vs France (Zidane) 2005.

Best shielding the ball: See above picture.

Dev, you’ve committed the cardinal sin of overplaying Hoolahan’s pass to Brady, and underplaying McGeady’s initial pass!

Just watched a replay of it there - you're right probably overplaying his pass a bit but it's the general play by Hoolahan that is so impressive. The pass into him from McGeady is actually a little awkward - it's drilled at him and bounces just before it reaches him - he stops it dead with a great first touch on his weaker right foot, swivels instantly and feeds a perfectly weighted through ball for McClean to run on to. It was excellent vision/execution rather than being an outrageous Hollywood style pass.

Wasnt it Meyler who won the ball and played it to Wes?

They seem to be mixing up McClean's goal against Austria and Brady's against Italy

Ah, that makes sense. Yeah must have been Meyler with the pass into Hoolahan then. Brady's goal was definitely more of cross by Hoolahan than a pass.
