Any help on this one would be greatly appreciated

We were due to fly from Krakow to Belfast yesterday with Ryanair (two separate bookings), but they cancelled all flights until end of the month from Sunday onwards and communicated this to us on Saturday evening.

Panic booked an Easyjet flight to Manchester on the Saturday evening but mistakenly booked it for the following week. In any case, easyjet informed me later that evening that flight was also cancelled anyway as Poland was closing its borders.

Anyway, her brother managed to book us Easyjet flights from Krakow to Geneva, Geneva to Gatwick and Gatwick to Belfast yesterday, and all of these flights went ahead and we got home eventually.

I think the total cost of booking the flights back home came to approx. £1200. Will Ryanair refund/compensate the price of paying for these flights to get home with a separate airline? If not, will Easyjet refund/compensate me the cost of the new flights to get home as they had cancelled the flight that I had mistakenly bought for next week?

Many thanks in advance

That's being discussed on the Slovakia away forum - everyone is in the same boat, me included. Ryanair are useless

Our flight London - Prague is listed as cancelled

Prague - London isn't though LOL

My Edinburgh to dublin flight is cancelled on the 28th but dublin to Glasgow 2moro is still going ahead, refund application for the flight home keeps failing and only have the option to reschedule the first without having to pay the change fee. Flights later in the year are more expensive, Ryanair, a right bunch of coonts.

Finally got sorted for all my Ryanair flights the claims form eventually worked this morning for the Vienna flight that was cancelled on Monday.

Some change in the wait time for refund too will take up to 20 days to process it now instead of the few hours it took to process the refund last week just shows the effect this is having on the industry

Does anyone know how to get a refund from Easyjet? The flight is cancelled and the e-mail says I can get a refund but there's no option.

Well my Swiss Air flight to Vienna has finally been cancelled. Can't apply for refund on their website though and can only do so through an 1890 number which will cost an absolute fortune to ring from a mobile with the wait times. Tried their parent company lufthansa on a regular landline number but despite the flight being up on their system and them emailing me about it they said they can't deal with it. Very frustrating.

The swissair number for Britain is  +44 345 601 0956. I have free calls to landlines over there from my mobile and according to the website below it says that 0345 numbers are charged at the same rate as a normal landline.

Might be worth a try if you have free calls to Britain or if someone you know does. If they won't deal with you because you are ringing from Ireland, you could always chance your arm and ask them to put you through to the Irish section. I can't imagine that swissair would even have a particular call centre for Ireland anyway.

When was your flight supposed to be?
Ryanair tried that with me, but once it got to within 7 days of the flight they offered a full refund.

Booked a holiday with last minute.com for May.
Looking on line they seem to be a nightmare to contact to try re jig dates etc. Where do you stand in these scenarios? Will wait till nearer the date to try make contact. Paid with a credit card,as thought if company went bust we could get our money back! If they can’t provide the service paid,is this way of paying any good to me! Ps I realise there are bigger issues out there👍

If it's cancelled, you have to get your money back. If they go bankrupt, you should be able to do a chargeback on the credit card BUT you have to do that within six months of the payment afaik.

Swiss finally got back. Can't process refund immediately due to volumes but will do in future or else I can use the amount of any booked flight between now and year end booked before 31st August. €50 credit if the replacement flight is more expensive, how generous.

Raise a charge back immediately and you'll have have the funds back within 30 days. Phone your bank very early tomorrow morning(they have massive waiting times at the moment as they are struggling to get staff working from home and are closing branches) and say you wish to raise a dispute(chargeback) on a payment as it can't be delivered and the merchant isn't replying to your request for a refund.

Just wait, if you can get a refund take it or if you must move it then go for March next year. The weather would be better than back home and you’d  hope everything will be back to a normal state or the new normal by then.

I’ve a holiday booked in May but going to wait and see.
I’m supposed to be driving to Ireland (from the UK) end of June but not sure if that will even go ahead.

Can' imagine anyone of them are being used this year

Aer Lingus cancelled my flight from Britain to Ireland Easter weekend. I noticed a few days ago that they weren't allowing new bookings until 1st May. I'm entitled to a refund under EU law but i'm considering just taking the voucher they are offering as its easier than trying to contact them. They are offering 20% more than you paid on the voucher also with 5 years expiry. I assume they have cancelled all their flights from Britain to Ireland until May

Ryanair  - Trying to claim the refund and not the voucher but when I use the EU 261 form it says 'the application has already been submitted' and I definetly haven't applied for it as only notified the end of last week it was cancelled  .

Have at least 5 flights so I want the money
They did the same to me. Filled in the form and requested a refund and Friday I got sent a voucher. Rats

Same here NR. Applied for a refund already and got the voucher email. Went to apply for the refund and the chat now option is a bot so no use. You can write to them but they’re doing everything they can to hold onto the cash so will force you to ring the pricey phone number.

I got onto a refund page with the option 'Refund' or 'EU261 Refund' went down the 'EU261 refund' route but it was asking for bank details after a page or 2 IBAN number and BIC number  I didnt have to hand so couldn't finish it

Not sure how I got to that page  - got numbers and applied this route  - obviously only entitled to a refund which is all I want but my 5 flights are coming out to about probably about 400 quid

I can't get onto the page NR is talking about which asks for your bank details. 5 flights booked with them in total, not all football so would like the dollars they promised. Funny they refunded one flight quickly, obviously changed tack and vouchers now. It says these are valid for a year, which I'd probably use anyways, but thought the government brought in a 5yr law for  vouchers  at Christmas time?

Plus when ye take into account the 3 games in the autumn which may change dates and some have flights for, could be another kick in the stones there.

Bank saying Covid19 has changed things re charge backs and it’s not as easy to do! Any ideas ?

In the same boat though with Lufthansa re NL games

Search for refund and it take you to timescales for refunds

On the rhs it has refunds and eu261 refunds

I went down the eu261 refund route which is different than the refund route which is what I used previously but that is now telling me the details have it’s already been used though I definitely didn’t apply that way for the Malaga flight as it was only recently cancelled

I have no idea if it will work if it doesn’t I will call them from a work phone with all the details of my flights

Unhappy

Decision summary: We're sorry that your flight was cancelled. Our assessment and legal team has carefully reviewed your claim and the circumstances around your flight and have confirmed that your compensation claim is not eligible for compensation payment under EU Regulation EU261/2004.

Dear Liam

We are sorry for the disruption to your flight.  Our assessment and legal team have carefully reviewed your claim, including the circumstances around your flight and have confirmed that your compensation claim is not eligible for compensation payment under EU Regulation EC261/2004. Please note that this may not match with the information you were given on the day of travel, as our staff in airports, and on-board, may not have had all the information concerning your cancelled flight.

Our assessment of your claim
To further explain what happened; health and travel restrictions imposed by the local Government to mitigate the spread of the Covid-19 virus, severely affected easyJet’s flying programme. This significantly impacted our programme along with other airlines and we had no option but to cancel your flight. We do take reasonable measures to avoid delays and cancellations to our flights by having replacement crews and spare aircraft available in our network. However, in the circumstances, these options would not have helped as your flight was cancelled as a direct result of these restrictions imposed by local Governments.

EU261 Regulation
When we have to disrupt a flight due to circumstances outside of our control, the flight is classified under EU regulation 261/2004 as being affected by “extraordinary circumstances”. An example of disruption outside of our control would be that primarily caused by air traffic control restrictions, industrial action, severe weather conditions or a runway closure.
EU261 compensation is only payable when a flight is delayed by 3 or more hours after the scheduled arrival time, or the flight is cancelled, and the reason for the delay or cancellation was within our control. This type of disruption is classified as “non-extraordinary circumstances” in the EU Regulation. Examples of this include most aircraft technical faults or when we haven’t taken reasonable measures to prevent or minimise disruption. A copy of the regulation can be found at  http://eur-lex.europa.eu/" rel="nofollow - http://eur-lex.europa.eu

Expenses
Even if your compensation claim has been declined, you may be eligible for reimbursement of reasonable expenses incurred as result of the disruption. If you have not already done so, you may submit an expenses claim on our website at  https://www.easyjet.com/en/help/boarding-and-flying/delays-and-cancellations." rel="nofollow - https://www.easyjet.com/en/help/boarding-and-flying/delays-and-cancellations.

Please read this carefully before submitting a claim as this explains how we assess expenses. The only way to make a claim is via our expenses webform, we are unable to process claims submitted by email or over the phone.

We hope this letter clearly explains why your flight was disrupted. Our assessment team have thoroughly investigated all the available information and this is the decision we have arrived at.

Our Customer Services team will not be able to access any more information than we’ve provided here. Please read our “Who is entitled to compensation” section on the following link which will hopefully answer any further questions you may have.

2 vouchers received from Ryanair in last 2 days when I originally applied for a refund. If was a decent lifespan on the voucher it wouldn't be too bad but only valid for a year isn't much good when we don't know when normal service will resume for airlines

Mrs Claret has been going toe to toe with Ryan Air but in the end admitted defeat , now she got a refund back on Friday and after waiting 40 minutes on the phone they said " you will get a refund when when covit 19 has been given the all clear " so when who says it Ryan air in two years time maybe ? So she took that one then another voucher hit hit her email she decided to do thins one on live chat what they have up . Last night 2 hours waiting nothing then this morning she logged in at 6am when when they opened for the day and was still waiting 90 minutes later .
In the end we took the voucher now we have 12 months to use it so you could book a flight on the 20th April 2021 for the 19th April 2022 if you wanted giving you 2 years .
So as it stands we have over €530 in flights with them and another €250 if flights are canned in July .
Don't think there is much more we can do really .

Similar story, I've had a flight from Amsterdam to Bilbao cancelled by KLM (booked for euros). Offered change or voucher. Voucher valid for one year but can be used for flight which is scheduled for a date after the one year voucher period has expired provided the flight is booked in the valid period. I've got 7 flights in June to sort out with 4 different airlines. While I'm at it does anyone know if you can use more than one voucher when paying for a flight ?

actually thinking about it I could use them on work flights and claim them back as expenses as didn5 have too many work flights booked

Works for debit cards too. I had my return flights home for Easter cancelled, claimed a refund, got the 2/3 emails saying it was being processed and then got the voucher email on Monday. Tried contacting Ryanair Monday via phone & social media. No joy. Rang my bank (Lloyds) yesterday and asked them to initiate a chargeback for services not delivered. Gave them the details, etc. Money was back in my account within an hour.
