Sports authorities and broadcasters have been summoned by the government for discussions on coronavirus contingency plans - as the Premier League considers banning over-70s at matches.

The meetings will be held in London on Monday and will cover various possibilities in case the virus spreads further.

On what could happen to the Premier League, Sky News' sports correspondent Martha Kelner said: "The Premier League is prepared for the possibility that Public Health England will advise that some fixtures this season will have to be played behind closed doors, as has been the case in other European leagues like Italy and Morocco.

League of Ireland clubs would all fold within a month if the league here was hit by it.

Be funny seeing Liverpool win the title behind closed doors.

Behind closed doors, like a masonic meeting without the handshakes, would suit Rangers.10 penalties awarded to them, every game

There's a new craze sweeping Manchester United fans everywhere. They've cut out handwashing and taken to rubbing their hands off random surfaces such as door knobs and taps, and then patting other people on the mouth without warning. All this is an effort to rapidly spread the Coronavirus to such an extent that the Premier League is abandoned before Liverpool can win it. These superspreading United fans may end up killing themselves or more likely their grandparents by doing all this, but that's a small price to pay - just think of the unreal bragging rights they'll have when Liverpool are denied the title!

if the trend continues our game must be looking more and more dodgy day by day.
You could really see it behind closed doors.

The euros in general must have a question mark about them especially with the multi country aspect to it.

It would be hilarious if the Euros were called off because of the insanity of hosting it across Europe. It would be a real silver lining.

The only positive thing is that the number of cases in both Ireland and Slovakia by other countries standards are pretty low.

We probably have to wait another week or 2 to get a better idea really.

Sporting events in Britain are unlikely to be affected by coronavirus in the immediate future, says Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden.

Governing bodies and broadcasters will meet with government officials later on Monday to discuss the staging of events behind closed doors if the outbreak worsens and mass gatherings are banned.

Dowden said "At this stage we're not in the territory of cancelling or postponing events."

He added fans should not be barred.

How would the super clubs and franchises react though? The leagues might want a postponement, but I bet the money boys would find a problem and use it as another opportunity to hammer international football and UEFA are on their side.

How would Getafe get out of Italy if the country is in lockdown?

Pretty much no one is leaving. Even Aaron Ramsey has been told he can't join up with the Wales squad.

Hannover player has it.

Roma can't travel to Seville for the Europa League as they aren't allowed leave the country.

Agreed I would have thought they would have cancelled the game .

Going ahead with empty stadium like all games. He tested positive after coming in a contact with a person on Saturday. Apparently didn't come into contact with his team mates afterwards.
(Hannover are in 2BL my mistake)

Looking more and more likely uefa will have to postpone football shortly, teams refusing to travel and players starting to contract the virus. Our playoff may be pushed back to June or after that, even though I can't think of any other available dates.

Play the playoffs behind closed doors.

Postpone the Euros for a year.

Use the month of June to finish this season's club season.

Start afresh in August.

The Euros should be awarded to the country that has the best health record for Coronavirus.   Like Fair Play except rewarding healthcare.  The country with the least amount of deaths cases per 100 people of the population wins.

That's a joke btw.

FFS how are they going to police not showing the games in pubs, even the recent fa cup game between Everton and Liverpool which was not televised was shown via Bein sports USA in my local.
