Flights booked for Helsinki.

Looks like Tampere and Turku are both about 2hrs on a train from Helsinki if needs be but hopefully it will be in Helsinki

If the games are elsewhere, you can get your train tickets from vr.fi and it's in English too. Trains there are cheap enough and frequent enough, if you book well enough in advance.

FinnAir but it's a rip off, not going to bother with flights until at the earliest after the playoffs and then after the euros if we qualify

Tallinn also an option if flights are cheap enough, 2 hour ferry from there to Helsinki.

I've done the Tallinn-Helsinki crossing and it has to be seen to be believed. Lads downing bottles of vodka until they're at the brink of death. The prices go right down once they're at sea. Leaving the ferry is like walking through a minefield, there's unconscious folk all over place.

You'd think they'd all move just one day ahead Wales (H) Oct 11th & Finland on the 14th.

If we got to the final in Bosnia/Belfast on the 12th November surely they'd have to move the Wales away game 2 days to the 15th November? 14th November would only be 48 hours after our playoff final.

Wales away woukd have to shift 2 days as you say - at least accommodation on match day will be easier as the All Blacks will have left town  but Sunday matchday .Bulgaria at home would also shift from Mon to Wed

Is there actually any point in booking flights at all at this stage - in case any new lockdowns are imposed in any of the host cities we're due to play in?

precisely. Lisbon has some area's gone into lock down because of people having parties of more than 1,000 attendees. Also there has been a surge in cases in other areas of the country.. and Portugal was one of the better countries in dealing with the virus.. Look at Bournemouth the other day, and compare it to memorial weekend in the USA 3 weeks ago. The virus has soared in some states. Are ya telling me the Finland and other Baltic states aren't going to go to Spain etc. and socialize and there won't be anothger spike.. hold fire.. KLM and other large airlines if flying will be the best option to get there.

Already had flights booked so for the sake of €67 to change them it was worth the risk for me and CM too clearly. I wouldnt be booking new flights though although they were reasonable enough earlier at €200

As I thought - I'll definitely hold fire on booking anything for at least another few weeks anyway. Suppose there's no harm in booking free cancellation hotels (and checking that the cheeky c***s won't take a prepayment).

Thanks lads. Thumbs Up

Would that mean an amendment to UEFA rules? It sounds logical but potentially unworkable and if UEFA are going to go down that route they are setting a precedent for the euros which they’ll look to avoid.

That’s more plausible alright but if the FAI announce that its unsafe to travel to country A yet sending their players to it is it not sending mixed messages? Willing to put their players at risk but not the supporters..

Also, if papers are to be believed they are hoping for 15-20k in the stadium in September yet they say they don’t want fans travelling?

To avoid questions being raised like the above, they’d be best off going along with UEFA rules and saying nothing.

You’d like to think so anyway!

There are so many different variables - what’s the story with quarantine for the teams - is it just waived because there’s an international football match.. lots for the Associations to figure out over the next few months and I won’t be booking anything until closer the time and there is more clarity.

The only thing certain is that no way will all matches be played as scheduled over the coming months. There are too many variables

So many questions hang over all our games home and away , now the players are checked twice a week for covid so cant see a problem there as for the fans anything is possible .
For myself my flights were never canned for Helsinki so as it stands we are still on for flying no matter what happens , now on the other hand at present i still have to take 14 days at home after going overseas and the company i work for says this has to be taken out of my own holidays . Now come Oct this maybe set to all change who knows i just have a feeling that this virus will be back with a bang come winter again like the flu .
One thing for sure is i have not booked anything for Brat as i got my money back for flights and i am in no hurry to book anything .

The refund option is valid up until departure date, so you can request it anytime between now and then. sh*t hits the fan the day before, can still cancel with a refund. No brainer unless you defo dont want to go.

I'd be surprised if there's away fans at games this year. They'll work on getting home fans back in for the moment I reckon.

Why ? I think Finland is in a far better place than Ireland if you are to believe the stats. More like the Finns would be weary of Irish fans arriving to Helsinki..

LOL behave yourself. You’ve little to be getting embarrassed about, If its safe to go and we’re allowed obviously, then I’ll be on my flights and drinking €15 pints and cheering on the team.

If Ireland fans go to Finland we'll be the butt of the joke like the IRFU for taking so long in cancelling the Italian game, and the horse racing for allowing Cheltenham to go ahead.

It's not for another 3 months. It's an ever changing situation so you should probably hold fire on your criticism until closer to the time when we'll have a clearer idea of how things are both in Ireland and Finland tbh.

Nothing going to change , if anything we will probably be stuck in phase 3.
Insurance companies saying you are not covered if you travel while the non-essential travel is in place.
Think people should just forget about travelling to this one

I really doubt things will change enough to enable away fans into games. Home FA's will be grateful just to get their own supporters in  in a limited capacity

I think you’ve misjudged this one. There is a big difference between 20,000 Irish going to Cheltenham in a crowd of up to 80,000 every day to a hundred or so Irish fans going to a match where attendances are limited under social distancing guidelines.

For what it’s worth; I think DI is probably on the money. I can see some of these matches not going ahead or if so, there’ll be severe restrictions. A lot of waiting and seeing

Uk Government told racing authorities to go ahead with Cheltenham. Big difference.

Directly from the ECDC - "available evidence therefore does not support recommending border closures".

The baseless fearmongering from the Irish government which has gone rogue on this issue is clearly after affecting plenty of the masses it seems.

Travel to countries on the green list presents no more danger than going to anywhere else in Ireland. That's the point of the Green List.

Not sure I would go if they aren't admitting away fans  ( unless I don't get a refund ) - Helsinki in Oct could be grim weather wise

It's up to UEFA whether to admit away fans, can't see this happening at the moment. No restrictions on Irish tourists traveling, Ireland's on Finish governments green list.
