United supposedly pulled out of the deal due to the clauses being proposed by Raiola. £40M buy out clause but also he and the players father to get a percentage of the same.
An other supposed clause was that the agent would have the final say in who he'd move to.
Sounds like a dangerous precedent if true

Or that is what United are briefing the press to make it look like they haven't messed up on getting a target.

I think they definitely wanted him, and for £20m would have been a super signing. But having to put in such a low release clause (which I understand with such uncertainty at United) and having to pay a percentage of that to the agent (again usual) but also the father, and paying such high wages probably didn't make it such a great deal.
Will be interesting if they go for anyone else now, my worry is that there was no plan B.

Raiola’s said all of it is bullsh*t.

Competing against Martial/Rashford/Greenwood and only Europa League football vs competing against a misfiring Paco Alcacer and Champs league football.

It was the reason and the only reason why Dortmund were always favourites to get him.

Possibly true, although I'd trust Raiola about as much as I'd trust JD. Probably a little less.
Europa League is definitely a big thing, but the competition shouldn't have been a factor

And yes, I'm probably wearing red tinted glasses

I don’t think there will be many big transfers, just a lot of Loan deals.

Haaland biggest name moving so far. Minamino the only Premier League transfer of note

It's usually a last minute thing anyway, there'll be the usual transferring of scraps  in the last few day.

if a MOD could update the title *2021*

I’m surprised Klopp said Liverpool may not get another CB in Jan.
They really don’t need to spend loads - they can get a loan deal or sign a 30+ defender.

I think somebody like K Long would be perfect. Or J Dunne on loan etc. There must be a few options available.

Messi can now speak to other clubs. Will he stay and can Barca afford him now?

West game have sold Haller to Ajax for close to half the price they paid.

I did say ‘like’
They need some cover at CB and ideally with EPL experience....

They don’t want to spend huge money on a CB with 3 coming back from long term injuries. They want somebody cheap or on loan.

Who would you suggest is available?

The answer is nobody who fits the requirements and the circumstances which is why most likely nobody will be coming in.

The usual approach is to go for whoever is doing well for Southampton, Vestegard or Bednarek?

I reckon Diop at WH will go somewhere big, a lot of clubs seem to like him, but not Moyes

It’s an unusual circumstances that you have 3 CB’s out.

I’m not sure Phillips or Williams are good enough and that’s why Hendo was playing CB last week.

Liverpool have a great chance of winning the league again. Why would you not spend some money to increase that chance.
I think the safe option is to go for a 30+ CB that could be available on the cheap as there is no resale value.

The real unusual circumstance is that Liverpool have a £100 Million revenue hole due the pandemic. That's why there won't be any signings. The money isn't there currently.

If Jimmy Dunne or Kevin Long were signed or a player of similar ability they wouldn't be either.

Playing at centre back for Liverpool is completely different than playing for most other sides, I mean they play with an extremely high (so that requires immense pace), they expect their defenders to play out from the back no matter the opposition which requires them to be very comfortable in possession.

Who fit's that category? Especially mid season when clubs know Liverpool are potentially desperate.

Apparently Liverpool are really struggling with a 100M revenue hole.
They may need the local community to bail them out.

Anyway, they don’t want to spend that much when 3 good CB’s are due back next season.
They need a cheap option.
If Fabiano gets injured they are proper F*****

Even if they get somebody in to give Fabiano a break when they are playing the lessor teams would help.

Not going to go on but Tarks said he wants to leave , now gave all the right reasons as for playing in the CL and for England , i would say Leicester are in pole but would they cough up £ 35 Million is the big question . he has a release cluse of £40 m but i think the club would take 32 to 35 .
