No, it was the height of professionalism. I’m sure if you type the two names into Google it will come up.

That says a lot more about your memory than Waddle's career in France.

From wiki:
On 1 July 1989, after scoring 33 times in 138 league appearances for Tottenham, Waddle moved to French club https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olympique_de_Marseille" rel="nofollow - Olympique de Marseille for a fee of £4.5 million; the third highest sum ever paid for a footballer at the time. During his time in France the club were French champions three times (1990, 1991 and 1992). They were also on the losing side to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Star_Belgrade" rel="nofollow - Red Star Belgrade in the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1991_European_Cup_Final" rel="nofollow - 1991 European Cup Final .
During his years at Marseille, the fans gave him the nickname "Magic Chris". He was known as the successor to former Marseille player https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roger_Magnusson" rel="nofollow - Roger Magnusson . Waddle was also voted second best OM player of the century behind https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean_Pierre_Papin" rel="nofollow - Jean Pierre Papin for the club's century anniversary in 1998.

Robbie Fowler played for a few sides I'd forgotten about, inc Leeds, Man City, Cardiff City and Blackburn, before heading out to Oz to North Queensland Fury and Perth Glory, and finishing his career with Muangthong United in Thailand at the age of 36:
"After the sacking of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henrique_Calisto" rel="nofollow - Henrique Calisto as head coach, Fowler was made https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Player-coach" rel="nofollow - player/coach . On 16 October 2011, after 250 minutes of play, Fowler scored his first goal for MTU against https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chiangrai_United_F.C." rel="nofollow - Chiangrai . He scored his 250th club career goal on 21 December 2011 against https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TTM_Phichit_F.C." rel="nofollow - TTM Phichit . On 28 February 2012 Fowler announced he had left the club following https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slavisa_Jokanovic" rel="nofollow - Slavisa Jokanovic 's appointment as coach."

On that subject, when Parrott was the 'first irish player to line out for top 6 club in X years' i had completely forgotten that the previous holder of that moniker was Robbie Brady turning out for United in the league cup

And away to Ajax in a CL qualifier, as well as away to Juve in the first group game

I've a feeling one of Agathe or Petta didn't start the Juve game but came on and did well when Celtic had a go at them?

In the year he was injured after signing for Man United he learned to play the saxophone, and I remember reading he invented his own percussion instrument.

I always felt at a time when Alex Ferguson made no mistakes, selling Dublin to Coventry, even for a good profit was a bad idea, especially with the foreign rule restriction still in place.

The Dube. There are plenty similar instruments though, I’m not sure how much of an invention it was. Supposedly named after what his teammates called his spectacular manhood, if the rumours at Cambridge are to be believed! Bit of a Pat Mustard too, by all accounts.
