Excellent list, cheers.

In terms of players you could add to being eligible:

- Armstrong Okoflex: Dublin born and bred, has played for England in some friendlies at U16 - not an agegroup relevant for fifa rules - so in theory available to us afaik if he wanted and was asked.  Could be an ideal opportunity to get him back involved - into a winning team with a real chance of doing well.

This age-group beat the Dutch recently, so no reason we shouldn't be going into this competition looking to win it.

- Gavin Bazunu

Possibly have a look at one or two of the lads that stood out for the U17s recently:

- Joe Hodge at Man City - has some physical development to go, but an excellent prospect;
- Matt Everitt at Bristol
- Sobowale - the Man City centre half
-  Festy Ebosele - I was impressed with his appearances and I think he just won the Academy league in England...

The attacking options are unreal for the team. It really is a top team the more you look at all the players that could be involved. Hopefully they are all released by their clubs. Didn’t even realise Obafemi and Coventry were eligible up until recently. Those two along with Connell and Collins making appearances in the championship and most of the others staring for u23 teams like Connolly and Idah getting the POTY at their respective clubs.

Well done Mystic Meg, wonder what odds ill get for them results.

With everyone fit and available we could win this thing. Will we have a full squad to pick from though I doubt it very much.

If we pick a full squad then we’ll have no reason to fear the French.

French have a smashing side and along with Portugal are one of the favourites to win it outright, presuming the Norwegians don't include alfe-inge hallands son Earling as he is currently playing for the Norwegians u20's at the u20 World Cup in Poland I think we would have too much for them. Incidentally Erling Halland scored Nine goals for Norway in a 12-0 win over Honduras yesterday.

The Norwegians have been producing some excellent underage players in recent years.  The current U20 squad is a particularly good crop.  However, only 4 of the 21 players in their U20 squad are eligible for the U19 Euros - Haaland being one of them.  Whether they'll be called-up for the U19 tournament so soon after playing in a World Cup remains to be seen.

It also goes without saying that the French will be strong.  However, given the manner in which Ireland qualified for the Finals (as the only team with a 100% record) and provided we send close to a full-strength squad, there should be nothing to fear.  This might well be the strongest Irish underage team since Brian Kerr's squad that travelled to Cyprus in 1998.

Any club manager would hardly like their players playing in two international tournaments during the summer I'd imagine most national fa's would come to some type of agreement with clubs on this.

That just shows the quality available at this age grade.  I think Smallbone has to be in the squad.

I edited the post to include Brandon Kavanagh whos playing some great studf for Rovers latley, but I would have Connell left back.

If that was the squad there would be only 3 English born in the squad which shows that the good work is deffo been done at youth level in Ireland. Great to see.

Hopefully Aaron Connolly is named in the squad for this. Thought he was brilliant for the under 21s today.

He’s seriously strong for a small lad, reminds me a little bit of Shaqiri but is probably a more natural finisher.

Reminded me of Matt Everitt on the U-17s.  Was quality.

Conor Masterson picked him out with a load of cross-field balls.  He looked very comfortable on the ball at the back.

Reckon it'll be Parrott, Connolly is more than likely going to be on preseason with Brighton

It'll be interesting to see this squad - it's anyone's guess as to whom they'll bring. Will they select anyone who was already in the U17s/U21s? Some of the lads who were concentrating on school missed out on the U17s

Players I'd like to see included (apart from Johansson who is ineligible having played for Luxembourg in the qualifiers for the same tournament)

Michael Obafemi - has senior experience / been out for a while, if fit, then why not? I'm sure Robbie had already been capped at senior level when he won the U18 Euros.
Troy Parrott - The most obvious one, if fit. So unlucky with the timing of the injury
Ryan Nolan - Captain of Inter Milan youth team
Tyreke Wilson - Rated at Man City
Mipo Odubeko - Man Utd 17 y/o - Most info online is Nigerian fan sites tracking his progress

Bollox, clubs should be made release these players in particular if they were not previously released for the u17's or the Toulon tournament.

On a positive note, the fact that these lads aren't allowed travel means that their clubs rate them highly and may mean they are close to first team debuts.

What’s the logic in having the tournament so late in the summer? Surely all the other qualified teams are having the same issues with clubs and preseason?

Gavin Bazunu not included either - presumably he's not with Man City first team though...

Despite the uefa cock-up in timing causing the unavailability of so many players, I am looking forward to seeing this team play.

Delighted to see four solid performers in the recent U17s Euros rewarded, particularly Hodge and Everitt who were particularly outstanding. A big step-up for those boys, but well deserved.

Looking forward to seeing McGuinness and McEntee in a strong defence.

I suspect we'll see a midfield three of Lee O'Connor holding, with Hodge getting things moving beside him and Coffey providing more legs.

Up front perhaps Afolabi down the middle, with the live-wire Everitt on one flank and Regba on the other.

All in all, should be a quality line-up and will hold their own.  But for the missing players, you'd think they would have been looking at winning it, but that's the situation we're in.

Matches on RTE 2 apparently.

Will ferry may be the injured player Tom Mohan was referring to.

Omobamidele, Hodge, Everitt and Ebosele all impressed me during the U17s tournament. Delighted to see them get another chance. Curious to watch O'Connor again, particularly if he's going to be in midfield this time. Defensively he impressed me, I felt his distribution let him down a bit.

Have watched all of Lee's matches for United and he is one of the best youth defenders I've ever seen. Absolutely insane composure. If he was just a few inches taller I'd seriously taut him as being a potential world class CB. As it is though he's found himself a bit stuck between positions and how progress. Continuously used at CB because he's just that much better than everyone at it but at the same time the club don't see a future for him at CB. A bit disappointed the way United have treated him tbh and shoved him all over the place to accommodate others despite him being the biggest talent at the back.

The timing really makes a mockery of this tournament. Clubs must release the players for the first round and Elite rounds but not the finals themselves. What's the point?
I wonder how many of the players held back by their clubs will actually be involved with their first teams this season. Most if not all will be back with the u-23s or farmed out to League 1/2 getting lumps kicked out of them.

Id say the clubs would release the players if it was England playing. Absoloute disgrace.

Jack James is awful. Keeps losing it. Get Coffey on for James put Kavanagh up on the left and put Ledwidge bacl at left back.

The lads are doing alright but ned to be more clinical.

Keeper is shocking with his distribution.

Their keeper should be booked for time wasting

Reghba looks far and away our best player so far. Poor cross from him after he worked a good position on the right hand side, and great block from their defender from his shot.

It's a real shame that we haven't got our best 11 players on the pitch. Parrott, Connell, Collins, Coventry, Knight and Connolly would make a real difference to this team.

Joe Hodge great at relieving pressure and driving play forward, based on Kenny’s previous comments wouldn’t be surprised if he was fast tracked

Has to change something on our left hand side. James and Ledwidge having very poor games.

Cant get my head around why James a right footed centre half is paying left full and a left full is playing up high on the left of a front 3. Its clearly not working. These are there for the taking aswel.

Really strange player selection, so many defenders on the field playing out of position. Not hard to see why James was released by Luton on this showing.

Decent result.

Would have beaten those lads by a goal or two with Parrott, Connolly, Bolger etc.

Frustrating to watch. Even a handful of the missing players and we'd have won that match

Absolutely.  Probably a consequence of Mohan not really knowing his actual squad until a few days ago.

Ledwidge looked far more comfortable when he went back to left-back, so expect him to start there next time withe Everitt coming in at left wing.

Hodge and Regba were excellent today.  Hodge is a real bit of class, somehow always has time to make the pass.

The two centre-halves did well too - McIntee similar to Duffy in playing style and posture.

Though Afolabi did well up front.  With this system we play in our underage teams of 4-3-3 which is often like a 4-5-1, the striker often gets very little support.  I though Afolabi handled that well, making one chance (the left footed shot) out of nothing by shrugging off two defenders making up serious ground before unleashing a handy shot.

I felt Idah was unfairly criticised on here in a similar situation - where he did a good job of showing and holding up the ball; but hard to do more than that when you're double-marked at there's little support.

I agree that with a few of the missing 13 odd players in that team we would have beaten Norway with some to spare.  Barring them blitzing us for the first 15 min when we looked a bit star-struck, we were comfortable.

For the under 17’s Joe Hodge was far and away our best player if injuries allow I believe he’s going to be a Terrific player...hope he stays on board.
