Ireland not on until Thursday and the song is absolutely awful.

I actually think the song will do well, its a change from the last few years of sad sacks with a guitar. If she has a bit of charisma on stage I think we'll go through to Saturdays finals

It's 1/20 not to qualify and 8/1 to qualify. I'm not a fan of it but good luck to her. Hope she does well.

The song is second in the semi running order, traditionally not the best place for wanting to qualify. The song is a grower, radically different to all the balladeer crap we've sent over the past 5-10 years, and a breadth of fresh air compared to the politically driven cowsht we sent to Lisbon 12 months ago.

Heard Linda Martin interviewed last week, she’s not a fan of our song this year.....she said we should stick to ballads

50% of the vote is already cast for the semi-final.... each countries panel voted in the last day or so, the other 50% (public vote) is cast tomorrow.
A few strongly tipped songs (Poland & Portugal) failed to make it out of their semi last night.

Actually thought Finland's song the other night was very good but it didn't get through. Had Darude of Sandstorm fame and all. San Marino getting through was a joke. Your man can't even sing, I think I could do just as well as he did.

Second Semi tonight. The standard looks to be better tonight judging by the odds. I heard Netherlands and Switzerland last night and both seem to be very strong. I don't give Ireland much of a chance. I thin we'd have had a better chance on Tuesday as the standard was very low.

I didn't hear any of the other songs but that Irish entry had a definite Father Ted 'Eurosong' vibe to it.

It appeared to be about the number 22! I meant it gave off a 'Eurosong' vibe in that it was intentionally bad. Actually maybe 'bad' is the wrong word, as 'bad' songs have done well before. It seemed to be intentionally dull as dishwater to avoid any chance of it even threatening to do well.

I've had that "We hate Roman Catholics" song in my head for about 2 months now, would have done very well.

I don't think there is anywhere called South Macedonia, funnily enough. You have North Macedonia, formally the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, who had to change their name to keep Athens happy. That's because in Greece you have the regions of West Macedonia, Central Macedonia and East Macedonia (and Thrace).

I only ever watch the voting as the songs are too painful.

Madonna is a few sanwiches short of a picnic.

Marty is a gobsh*te.

I was hoping the nordie Macedonians would win...she seemed like a sound person.

Why would anyone pay attention to what Greece want? Confused

Because they are blocking their NATO membership, essentially.

They did qualify. We know them as "Greece".

Holland have won it for the 5th time. They didn't win it in 1979, but still hosted it in 1980 when Johnny Logan won. They usually dont qualify from  the semis, so it's a shock that they won this year. You would have expected Sweden to win it, as the jury winner usually scores one of the highest televotes. SVT rarely sends crap to Eurovision.

Over the past 10 years, Germany, Norway, Austria, Denmark and Portugal of the "Western" nations have won it. Sweden have won it twice, and almost equalled our record this year.

How do RTE explain that?

Preview

Ireland finished 18th of 18 countries in the semi final. We got 3 televotes from the Brits and 13 jury votes from Moldova and Italy. Holland won the semi final and the final.

Yet again, the Irish song suffered from no promotion, no marketing, and an unknown performer with limited experience of major events. Her main experience to date, is playing to a bunch of punters under the influence of the devil's buttermilk at weddings and pubs in the middle of nowhere. A different world to the global superstars who put everything into winning the contest not just this year, but every year.

Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.
