This is absolutely atrocious. Heads should roll left, right and centre in the HSE and at Leinster House.
Anyone considering voting for Fine Gael at the next election needs to take a good hard look at themselves. This is nothing short of a disgrace.
Fair play to the whistle blower and the four pathologists.

"The SSWHG and University Hospital Waterford currently have no evidence that would substantiate the claims contained in recent correspondence"

Do they not trust the word of four consultant pathologists who actually work in the facility? Arsewipes.

The Leo quote is "I don’t know if those claims are true or not, but it doesn’t seem that there’s any evidence to support them and certainly those who made them haven’t put forward any evidence to support them"

What did they expect the pathologists to do when they had a decomposing corpse on a trolley leaking on the floor? Take fifty photos, get out their pen and paper and compile an incident report, file it with the hospital, video it on their iphone and wait for the hospital to get back to them? Or clean it up and treat the deceased person and their family with a bit of dignity?

It is absolutely scandalous that four consultant pathologists, in a facility that it is accepted needs replacing, cannot be taken at their word. The weaseling from the hospital and, particularly, Leo is utterly galling. The clear implication of the Taoiseach's words is that there is no actual issue. There are two key issues he does not address: the statement of the pathologists *is* evidence of what they dealt with (for instance, a large number of criminal trials are based on nothing other than verbal evidence); the second, more appallingly, is that there is no evidence to suggest that the issues complained of did *not* happen. There is no apparent reason why the consultants would complain unless they were actually driven to do so as a result of the conditions of the place, and to undermine that is cynical in the extreme.

It is bizarre too: what political reason is there to denigrate the pathologists in favour of the hospital? Surely Leo should just have said that it is a matter that needs to be looked into and that clearly the consultants have concerns; there is a new mortuary coming and as it seems additional resources are needed in the interim, the HSE are in a position to provide them. That's a fairly uncontroversial statement and probably what he should have said. What he did say was nothing short of a disgrace and, as a doctor, he should have known better than to drag the name of those consultants into the mud. He has certainly went down in my estimation with those comments.

Health service is seen as rubbish no matter who is in power.

People in England will tell you HSE is rubbish, as will the US

Nobody's ever happy about healthcare

Few people in England or America will have much experience of the HSE, so I would take their views on it with a pinch of salt.

Was horrified to hear this, my Dad passed in UHW in 2017, and spent an overnight in the Mortuary, we have been in contact with the undertakers for further clarification!

You can tell the lads in power are out of touch by their accents...Leo, Harris, Simon Coveney, Catherine Zappone, Eoghan Murphy, like where do they get the accents from?

Completely unsurprising. We get the politicians we deserve, and around here, FF & FG have always 1 safe seat each. To get a 2nd one, they might have to do things like build a new mortuary (that one the letter refers to was condemned in 2004), provide weekend cardiac care in UHW (have a heart attack here after 4 on Friday & you are off to Cork in an ambulance in rush hour traffic, you might make it, you might not, ah, who cares really) and when basic stuff like that which is taken for granted elsewhere is all done, they might get around to other stuff like providing jobs that don't involve fcukin call centres and upgrading the college, the kind of things that get done in other counties from time to time.

So, FF & FG look at all that, decide they probably don't really need all that hassle for a mere 2nd seat, and ignore it/put it on long finger for as long as they can get away with. Which has been decades at this stage. When Leo made those remarks, the local FG lads running for election were lined up behind him, not a fcukin peep out of them, more nodding dog politicians.

This was an exceptionally poor political error though, those consultants are extremely well respected locally, and in any case, everyone knows the HSE isn't fit for purpose anyway, regardless of this particular issue. It will likely hit FG in the locals, but the 1 safe WD seat in the GE will remain untouched, as Leo well knew while making those remarks. There will be builders on site just before that happens anyway, the politicians are good to us like that.

One of them is from Cork... the other two don’t even have D4 accents. It is part of the very annoying trend of Irish accents being Americanised. What the f**k is with the inflection? It would make you nostalgic for Bertie and Briton.
