I think it's strange 2 days before the group starts and no sign of a squad. Fixtures were released last week. I think it's  a shame the FAI have not released the squad surely they know ar this stage who is in and who is out. Not a note in any of the national papers. Some times you really do wonder do they really care?

unreal these lads are the most promising bunch of talent since Robbie and duffer played underage,I can honestly see 4 if not 5 of this 19 squad being in our first team for the next world cup qualifiers,

Not only has no squad been named, we’re actually hosting these games.

Haven’t seen any effort to promote them.

A lot of last seasons under 17s will have a chance to get revenge on the Dutch.

Matches on at ungodly times too. Anyone with a 9-5 won't get the chance to go

The squad list has just been added to UEFA's website.

Squad named at last. No Obafemi, Aaron Connolly or Brandon Kavanagh. Also, no explanation for their absences. For a very talented age group, the squad looks relatively weak.

Southampton U21 and Brighton U21 playing tonight in the Checkatrade trophy, wonder if that has anything to do with it?

Although Spurs and Stoke are playing too, and Ferry and Afolabi are included, so maybe not.

It's a tough enough group. You'd expect all three sides to beat the Faroes, and there wasn't much between Ireland and the Netherlands when they faced off a few months ago at U17 level, so tomorrow game really is a must win if they want to reach the elite round next year

Obafemi met up with the squad. He posted about it on Instagram. So it’s weird that he’s out.

Ya, I do wonder if it has something to do with the games tonight, as suggested above.

Kavanagh is an odd ommision, unless he's injured. Huge talent.

I haven’t seen much of Kavanagh. Would he be rated as highly as Trevor Clarke or Aaron Bolger?

Bolger and Kavanagh play in different positions but if you asked me who will go further I'd say Kavanagh.
Kavanagh's flashier which can skew things but he has made a difference in big games this year. He oozes class. Clarke is a bit older so hard to compare.

if we are not at the bottom we are fast approaching it  but suspect a draw on sat with hoofball tactic and the downward spiral continues

Yep, thought of McEneff when I saw the squad today.

Connolly scored tonight against Peterborough in the Checkatrade and was apparently excellent. His team mate at Brighton Dan Mandriou re-tweeted the u-19 squad announcement saying, "no Aaron Connolly, joke if you ask me. #notaclue". So it does look like he's been left out. Seems odd. Been great for Ireland and his club

Very strong and it’s missing three of the best underage strikers in England in Obafemi, Connolly and Cassidy.

He's only 16 so is eligible and would give us a great chance of doing well on home soil.

The Republic of Ireland recorded a comfortable victory over Bosnia & Herzegovina today the City Calling Stadium. Goals from William Ferry, Troy Parrott and Adam Idah sealed the win for Tom Mohans side.

The visitors attacked first in the opening minute, their pacey number seven, Milan Savic shooting over from distance after cutting inside on his right foot. Bosnia & Herzegovina went close again on 5 minutes, this time from a floated free kick. Faris Zubanovic had his shot blocked by Irish Centre Back Lee O’Connor.

Bosnia & Herzegovina, who were the much more physical side caused problems for Ireland. The visitors could have opened the scoring on 7 minutes when Elder Sehic forced goal keeper Brian Maher to pull off a magnificent save from close range.

Ireland could have put themselves in front only 5 minutes later when a fantastic cross field ball to Glen McCauley found space out on the right wing, he pulled the ball back to Adam Idah in the box who’s powerful shot was tipped over the bar by Adnan Kanuric.

The boys in Green had another chance on 16 minutes when Adam Idah got in behind the visitors defence and volleyed from a beautifully weighted free but his effort was once again saved by Kanuric.

The visitors responded when Milan Savic cut inside onto his left and curled the ball towards the far post but his shot was saved by Maher in goal. Zubanovic almost caught the Irish napping when he flicked a backheel towards goal but Maher saved again.

Glen McCauley was causing problems down the right wing. Cross after cross came into the box but Bosnia & Herzegovina deal with the pressure.

Adam Idah went close yet again on 37 minutes when he turned his man and unleashed a low flying shot from outside the box to the right hand side but it narrowly went wide of the post much to the relief of the scrambling Kanuric.

Kanuric kept the visitors in it again with another fine save just before half time when a corner wasn’t dealt with and it fell to Conor Coventry for Ireland and he turned inside and shot across the box but Kanuric did well to leap out and gather the ball before an Irish head could get to it.

The second half came to life on 55 minutes when Conor Coventry, against the run of play, played a magnificent through ball in to William Ferry who blasted past Kanuric in goal top put Ireland ahead!

Bosnia & Herzegovina had a chance to equalize only moments later from a free but Savic’s effort was high over the bar.

The boys in Green went 2-0 up when Jack James was taken down in the box on 64 minutes. Troy Parrott stepped up to take the peno and cooly chipped it down the middle sending Kanuric the wrong way. Ireland were beginning to take control of the game.

Things got even better for Ireland on 73 minutes when Adam Idah finally got his goal after missing numerous opportunities in the first half. The strong forward found himself in space in the box and made no mistake, burying the ball past Kanuric in goal to put Tom Mohan’s charges in complete control.

The visitors got one back on 77 minutes when substitution Mateo Bozic’s free kick was wickedly deflected and left Maher with no chance.

They could have gotten a second back on 83 minutes when a free kick was whipped into the box but Maher did well to gather as the ball flew by bodies in the box.

The boys in green held out for the remainder of the game and look forward to Saturday when they take on the Faroe Islands at City Calling Stadium once again at 3PM.

Agreed.
The keeper is effectively cheating by moving before the ball is kicked so why cant the kicker use a bit of cunning.

Didn't it take the Dutch 43 minutes to break them down? All we need to do is win, no need to panic yet.

Greed has won, big finance has won. Whatever small role elite clubs still play in the local communities from which they grew is dwarfed now by their position as global brands.

True. Finally a goal with just about 23 mins left. Penalty from Parrott after Reghba was fouled.

19s would probably beat the senior team. They would be certainly better set up and organized

Would I be right in saying after this the u19's don't have a game for awhile?

Wonder if there would be any chance of Idah and Parrott been given a call up for Seniors or at least the u21's both are playing well

More likely Parrott would drop down to u17 to play in the tournament here next year I'd say.

U21's last game is today as well.

Not sure I'd drop a 16 year old into the seniors, it's a lot of pressure for someone that age.

Not until March when they play the elite round, the u21s won't play again until March and if the 19s manage to qualify for the 19s final tournament then Parrott has two tournaments to play in. If the u19s don't qualify then you hope Idah gets some game time with the u21s or at least makes the senior squad to train with them and maybe even Parrott seeing as the uq7s tournament is in May and the seniors play in June.

I'd nearly bring him along to the training, just to get familiar with the senior set up.

Actually, on second thoughts, it would be jumpers for goal posts and shots on the keeper.

1-1 65 mins gone. Ireland 5 shots on target to Holland’s 1.

Regardless of how his game turns out, the majority of this Dutch team won the under 17 euros and we’re going toe to toe with them.

This crop of players is very bright.

Most of them have another year at under 19s. Troy Parrot has two.

Hopefully King is gone by then.

I'd just be wary, given that we have nothing exciting coming through, that too much pressure is put on him at that age to be our saviour. At 16 it's still all up in the air as to how his career will go, majority of kids at that level won't play top flight football still.

Also, Ampadu had 4 nations to choose from, Parrott doesn't have that so not as in as big a rush to cap him.
