Half an hour away.

And what an opening tie we have.

Mark "Geezer" McGeeney taking on Wolfie in the very first match.

It's like Brazil playing Germany in the first match of the World Cup.

Today is the greatest day in the sporting year.

The last ever lakeside. Has run it's course. Pdc winner gets 500,000 next year. Some money.

What a start to the tournament with Mark McGeeney edging out Wolfie in a deciding leg in a match of the very highest quality.

We couldn't have wished for a more exciting gala opening match, and this Willem Mandigers-Nick Kenny clash up now is exceptionally good too.

I see Darious Labanauskas who new pdc champion Rob Cross up a stick a couple of years back is out in the first round.

The going is a bit tougher when you stay amongst the big boys.

Proud moment for Turkish darts here with Umit Uygonsozlu starting very well against the highly rated Chris Harris.

He'll be hoping to hit a few Istan-bullseyes.

Sounds like the dartboard is made out of cardboard every time a dart goes in.

Cork is too thick for the magnets to work so it has to be cardboard.

Without the magnets, they'd be lucky to hit the board.

They just admitted on channel 4 there that the boards used in the BDO have bigger treble beds and bullseye. If these lads are averaging 85 on them boards they wouldn't even break 80 on the PDC boards

I see the Channel 4 commentary team today said that the trebles and doubles on the pdc boards are bigger than the official, regulation Winmau boards used at Lakeside.

Ooooft!

The pdc have been rumbled!

Trolling? What the fook are you talking about?

There are lots of trolls on this thread alright.

They know who they are.

The ones who can't accept that the fake circus darts of the pdc is being humiliated and obliterated by the sensational brilliance of the BDO.

Martin Phillips is darts' answer to Andrea Pirlo.

The BDO is the darts equivalent of Serie A in the early 90s. Technical and tactical brilliance. Darts for adults.

The pdc is the darts equivalent of a 4-4 draw between Bournemouth and Swansea. It can be entertaining, but never confuse higher scoring for higher quality. It's an inferior product.

And like Serie A, BDO darts is covered live by Channel 4 and presented by the great James Richardson.

Another cracking episode of Gazzetta Freccette Bretagna on BT Sport just now with James Richardson.

He had a very tasty looking continental breakfast and tall macchiato on the table beside him as he perused the morning's darts headlines.

The Corriere Dello Sport have a really interesting looking profile of Scotty Dog Mitchell today. Required reading for real darts fans.

The best coffee, the best food, the best drink, the best lake, the best fans, the best fun, the best of order, and most importantly, the best darts.

Long overdue. Given the popularity of darts in this country it's strange there hasn't been a 'breakout' player yet

For the drink that they supposedly take before matches, you hardly ever see any darts players who are noticeably drunk on stage.

I know a fella who's a caller at some of the smaller tournaments around England. He says there would be all day tournaments involving the top 16 in the world in places like Wolverhampton were they have multi boards going at once, and all the players would be on beer, vodka, gin etc from 9 in the morning

He also said that Phil Taylor's personal hygiene is very bad and that he stinks

Whitehead had (Irl) after his name on Flashscore earlier and pretty sure he had a tricolour beside his name on the graphic Channel 4 showed yesterday with today's order of play. It's been corrected to (Eng) on Flashscore now. Any connection there or just an error? I tuned in today expecting to see an Irish lad, presume it was just a mistake.

Edit, my mistake, was Heffernan's name I saw yesterday. Flashscore must have been an error.

That is why Glen Durrant is a true champion.

He saves his career in glorious fashion, emulating another true champion Scotty Waites earlier in the day by coming back from 4-1 down to win.

That's how much players want to stay in the BDO, the Best Darts Organisation.

And tomorrow, it's Scotty versus Duzza.

Yes. Fooking, yes!

That's how much players want to stay in the BDO, the Best Darts Organisation.

And tomorrow, it's Scotty versus Duzza.

Yes. Fooking, yes!

Sid are you winding up or do you really love the BDO? . Must say it has been an enjoyable watch and the 2 matches today were really exciting. I always saw it as the europa league of darts though.

The most memorable day of darts I've ever witnessed.

Four quarter-finals, four final set epics.

They'll call it FINAL SET FRIDAY as long as this great game is ever played.

All eight quarter-final participants are true guardians of our game and all should take equal pride in and credit for their contributions to the sumptuous feast of arrows action they have given to us unconditional lovers of the game.

Thank you Scotty, Andy, Duzza, Jim, Michael, Richard, Geezer, and last but certainly not least, Wayne.

Geezer's nickname is "Gladiator" but Wayne can lay equal claim to that title too given how he performed.

The way the two warriors embraced after Geezer's clinching dart was reminiscent of how Micky Ward and Arturo Gatti embraced after their third war in the ring.

What they share, we will never know. Only they will. And that's the case for all of today's other participants too.

Privileged to have watched it. Fooking privileged. Just gutted it's over.

Oh well, I guess I'll just have to content myself with tomorrow's two semi-finals, the ladies' final and Sunday's men's final.

Oh yes.

Lovely darts.

Lisa Ashton is our ladies champion for 2018 after beating Anastasia Dobromyslova 3-1 in a pulsating final.

Paul Nicholson called it "the greatest performance in the history of the ladies' game".

Lisa averaged 89.80 on the official, regulation Winmau board, which is the equivalent of 110 on a pdc board - that's higher than this year's winner of the pdc tournament. Robert Cross.

Astonishing arrows from the Lancashire Rose.

Some opening to this box office semi-final between Duzza and Scotty.

Scotty took out 460 in 8 darts in one leg.

Glen is playing to his usual world class standard.

He leads 2-1.

The opening stages of this is like Hagler v Hearns 1985.

But unlike that clash, we're going to go well beyond the third round and who'd bet against it going the full 11?

second rate quality. Good move by Glen to stay in the bdo. Career would be ended in the pdc.

I find it very good timing the issue of equality was in the front pages of the English papers this week.

The men get £100k for winning
The women get £12,000

I know the venue is stuck in the 70's still but doesn't mean they have to be.

Sensational performance by Duzza. He wins 6-2 and clinches it with an 11 darter with seven perfect darts from the start of the leg.

The greatest sporting hero Cleveland has produced since LeBron James.

Excellent second semi-final as Mark McGeeney saw off a stern challenge from Michael Unterbuchner on a 6-4 scoreline.

The right result but Michael pushed Mark very hard right to the end. Germany can be proud of its new darting superstar and he’ll get a hero’s reception on his return to Munich - well done to his boss for giving him Monday off. A lovely gesture of German generosity.

Mark's experience told in the end - after the break at 3-3 he took control and played some of his best darts of the week. But at 5-3 down Michael threw off the shackles and a 149 finish in set 9 was sublime. Real tension in the final leg with Michael battling to save the match and Mark just looking to get over the line. The last leg is always the hardest to win.

The World Pro final couldn’t be better poised - the world champion against the world’s number one player.

Personally I'd love to see Mark win it for his late mam Kathleen - she'd be so proud of her bhoy today - he's silenced a lot of doubters this week.

James Richardson stated on BT's coverage that this is the first time since 1999 that the number one and number two seeds have played each other in the final.

That Raymond van Barneveld-Ronnie Baxter duel was an 11 set epic (first to six won the title at that time). Here’s hoping for another classic tomorrow.

I seem to remember that the 1992 final also featured the number one and number two seeds and went to a final leg shoot out. That final is of course best remembered for Mike Gregory fluffing his lines when he had multiple match darts to win. Neither he nor his opponent, Stoke-On-Trent’s “Crafty Potter” Phil Taylor, ever made it back to another world final.

4:45pm throw-in tomorrow for the big one - a Channel 4 and BT Sport simulcast. Coverage begins from 4pm on BT with James and Chris, with Rob Walker and Paul Nicholson on air from 4:15 for Channel 4's live, free to air offering.

As a Liverpool supporter I'm gutted that our game with Manchester City clashes with the main event - that's much needed gate money LFC will be missing out on with people who would otherwise be at Anfield staying home to tune in to the darts. A disastrous scheduling decision by the football authorities - reminiscent of the Ulster Council's decision to stagethe 2002 Ulster semi-final between Donegal and Derry at the same time as the Spain-Eire World Cup extra-time and penalties.

An outstanding World Pro final so far.

3-3 at the break, all sets with throw.

It'll be Geezer to throw first in set 7.

The standard of doubles is laughable at times. I mean Durrant in particular wasn't even getting near them at one stage.
If he thinks he can be a force in the pdc he's deluded.
