Is this for definite?

One of the lads had decided he was going this way to guarantee a ticket

You have to register for info. Nothing yet regarding prices or details

Posted By: TioPepe

It couldn't be, as a friend rang them. Tomorrow they are releasing their prices, they weren't sure if they were doing a day trip at the time on top of an over night or not. I've friends who would use them nearly religiously, it will sell out within an hour or two.

I was curious if they usually charter a flight, since there is no other direct flights on the Saturday for the demand.

Marathon Sports are chartering flights. Day Trip. No Ticket. €349 plus €70 tax is the earlybird price. They emailed me earlier saying first flight is sold out. [IMG][/IMG]

What time is that KO in the picture ? Local time or Irish time

There's no ticket, that would surely be madness.

At least abbey guarantee a ticket, making it justifiable.

Imagine paying that without getting a ticketLOL

How could you possibly consider paying that? I've done all flights and an extra night accom for just over a third of that price.

So some people would pay that much over the odds for a guaranteed match ticket. Would this not then make Abbey Travel glorified touts?

I went to Scotland and Wales with Abbey you get what you pay for it's a good service but sadly I simply don't have the resources to pay 650 in one go for this one. Gutted as I was going to gamble and just book 16.99 flights to Denmark day before draw.

Get off it. LOL

I see the logic to Abbey Travel, particularly if you're a new away traveler its a chance to built points as well.

I've no hope of getting in via FAI. If I want to be guaranteed to get in I'd go that route.

Prefer to pay €600 to get to the game than €300 and sit in a pub.

It's pricey but can absolutely see the appeal. If they went for two nights and included another night's accommodation in that, I'd have probably went for it as am certainly not guaranteed a ticket as it is.

How many hotels were they offering? Surely they wouldn't of sold out more than a single flight at them prices! I suppose the match tickets is a big pulling factor!

My mates paid 650 euro each. They're in the Imperial, they had 3 hotels. One 3 star, two 4 stars.

I've used them to Bosnia, Scotland and a few others. They generally run a good show, they will have filled two planes or close to it. As they're doing two different trips.

I see the logic, i priced it myself my flights to Copenhagen from Madrid where 60euro but coming back to Dublin the easiest was near 300 plus a hotel there's not a huge amount in it. When you add the two flights out and back, decent hotel, transfers and match ticket.

It's so obvious he's Byrner. Within seconds of Byrner being banned during the Scotland game, Pepe suddenly appears.

I'm aware he posted for a while before that but the posting style is the exact same.

LOL What an odd forum this is. £20 to whoever stalks me today.

This is how this forum treats new members, essentially stalks them and compares them to other posters who were banned who they also had a hatred off.

I suppose it matters as his last profile was banned, initially from the whatever section for trolling, and then a complete ban.

Doesn't bother me personally that he is back, as long as he can resist trolling. The new profile gives him access to whatever/roi sections again, but knowing that its him now at this stage means less leeway with him, if he starts trolling again we'll be onto him sooner than last time.
Thats why it matters.

Most nations have a travel partner, I don't see the issue with them.

Not arguing that. However, travel agents are a dying breed. So Abbey are entitled to 15% of our allocation I believe (open to correction). For games like this they charge a fortune for the priviledge of a match ticket, trips that can be bought up by anyone whether theyve been to every game or none. Those tickets would be much better served in the general pool for FD/SC.

They are a dying breed, but for lots of people they're an essential way to go on holiday. As they can pay in on it. Most can't afford to pay £3000 for flights up front added with the hotel and transfers. Local travel agents in towns have died off, most large names will always remain. TUI/Thomas Cook/American Holidays even Abbey themselves aren't a small retailer.

True, it may not be fair system. Keep in mind, some who on the Abbey trips are season ticket holders and attend away matches anyway. I priced the Abbey deal, for what they were offering there wasn't a huge amount in it. The 4 star hotel was 160-180 euro with breakfast for a twin room. SAS at the time wanted 900 euro for a direct flight return, Ryanair still want in the 400-500 region. Add in a match ticket, transfers and breakfast there is arguably 100 euro in it. 100 Euro for a guaranteed match ticket.. most will pay.

Again it comes down to personal choice. No issue re the annual two weeks of misery in the sun with the missus and the nippers. People can plan well in advance etc, save or pay off as required. When it comes to sports events particulalrly such as the upccoming game thats where I have issues with them. If you or anyone else want to stay in a 4* hotel on a football trip and pay a travel agent a premium for doing so, thats your choice, but you are throwing money away, but agian your choice if you have it to throw away.

Regarding tickets, In the case of regular match goers, again no issue, as Ive said before they do provide a service for the computer illiterate, but there is so much better value out there than travel agents.

Agreed. I think by the time I’d booked it was costing 700 with abbey. But if I went independently, flights would be 4/500, hotel 150/200, and a ticket in the region of 50/100.

I flew with Abbey Travel to the Faroe Islands, think it was over €400 for the day trip!

Only for them I wouldn't have got there.

How do travel agents exist in this day and age?  Whey pay more money for something you can do yourself?  It's not 1978 anymore

Its simple, because you can pay in on it. Thats their main bonus, a lot of people also don't have a clue about holidays or where to go or stay.

Commission from hotels and excursions, lower rates on certain rates and packages. Personal knowledge about what to do, where to go, how to get there etc.
Especially for the more adventurous destinations.

Fella in work uses these boys. Money no object to him. Meet him the odd time at away games for a pint , to be fair he's all at sea away from his corporate family. I think abbey will always be there! Money talks!

Think the first 10 places were sold at €370 because I phoned them after the first 10 places were sold to see if they would sell it to me for the €370 and they wouldn't budge.

Yeah I think I paid €400 for it as well, having been suckered in by the advertisement.

I don't know how many got it for €369 but it can't have been many.

What did you get for €400 SD?

Day return flights and the bus from the airport to Torshavn and back.

It was a great deal compared to the alternatives.

Like, Copenhagen to the Faroes is normally the best part of €200 of itself, not to mention the fact it probably required at least an overnight both ways, and accommodation there wasn't cheap.

Does anyone who is booked to travel with Abbey know what time  that the  charter flight leaves Copenhagen Airport for Dublin   on Saturday night. ( Have they got the flight details yet?)
