Of the three nominated goals, Wes assisted 2 of them with brilliant passes and scored one, and yet he doesn't make the list of nominees for player of the year
Baffles me, thought I accept awards ceremonies are a big load of muckology

Close call between McClean and Brady for Goal of the Year IMO

Wouldnt disagree with either of them, however Wes should have made the shortlist for POTY in terms of contribution to goals in crucial matches.

McClean's goal is the pick of the bunch for me.. the cleanest counter attack I've ever seen from Ireland I think.. a real footballing goal..

For those thinking Brady's should win (not those thinking it will but that it maybe shouldn't): Switch the goals and there is no doubt that McClean's wins goal of the year.
McClean's was the better goal. Good play out of defense, excellent awareness by Wes, a super pass and an excellent finish.
Brady's was a good ball into the box and a deft header past a foolishly onrushing keeper, but it wasn't goal of the year. Wes's v Sweden was technically superior to it.
McClean's has to be goal of the year.

I'd give Brady POTY & YPOTY.
And while his goal wasn't the best in terms of pure quality, both McClean's & Hoolahan's were better, it had everything else- importance, timing, etc.

Coleman POTY Hendrick YPOTY. Had an absolutely massive impact at the Euros, even if it cant be quantified in goals like Brady's, and was our player of the tournament. Both him and Brady had post-Euros dips in form but Hendrick edges it for me Brady v Italy goal of the year. Wes v Sweden and McClean v Austria were technically better goals but that one gets it simply because of how absolutely massive it was.
Wes is not on the 3 man shortlist because Coleman, Brady and Hendrick deserve to be ahead of him. If you were making room for one more player it'd be McClean.

Coleman absolutely POTY in my opinion. Brady or possibly Hendrick for YPOTY but Brady edges it. Wes goal vs Sweden I thought was the best of the three.

POTY Coleman.
Going to go against the majority & vote for the best technical goal of the year, which was Wes V Sweden.
Brady YPOTY, mainly because he will lose out on the other 2 awards (not saying he will lose out on either, he could well get all 3, only me own opinion here)

Had Brady not scored vs Italy he wouldn't even have been nominated. As ever with these awards it's the lazy decision that attracts the most attention is the winner.
Don't get me wrong Brady has had a great season but Hendrick, Coleman and Randolph should have been the three nominated.
Even Brady's goal didn't deserve to win. The "best" goal was McCleans vs Austria. Brady's was just the most important.

yea agree here. thought coleman deserved POTY, and definitely thought mcclean's goal was 1, wessi's 2, and brady's 3. But as you said, it's the lazy decision that's won out.

Robbie Brady is not and will never be consistently good enough from game to game to win a POTY award. I also thought Wes v Swedan was a better goal as Wes hit it so sweetly. Nothing personal against Brady he just hasn't done it at club or internationally in my mind and blows hot and cold. A very important player no doubt but not reliable enough for me.

And if he were to, and even if he turned up and accepted the award - as shown by the Grealish episode - this would be indicative of absolutely nothing.

50% of these awards given up to womens football....whats the agenda pushed forward on it here and in the UK ? |
Hi
Spot on Mr 1930s.
Most of them haven't even found themselves a husband yet, why aren't they in the magdalene laundries while we're at it.
|
Piss off....do you watch it? do you know anyone who watches it? whose (see error) the star men (see error) in the team.......where are the multitude of topics about womens soccer on here.......or anywhere? |
edit....just noticed there's a 'whatever' section......I'll go look there see if there's any news on women(')s soccer |
Are you honestly saying that you don't know who manages the team and couldn't name a single one of the players? 60k+ watching a game in Madrid this weekend and I'll guarantee record breaking viewership for the world Cup in the summer.

What are we gonna do for International goal of the Year this year?
The senior team have managed one goal in 7 games (Duffy header V Bulgaria) The U21's have score 1 in 2 games, but it was an OG. The women have scored 1 goal from 4 games.
Do we include Hourihan and Brady's penalties in the shootout?

Think these awards were a vaniety project from the last administration. Giving an award for a foreign player for ffs! Berbatov was it or whoever was available to come to dublin for the night. Scrap them. Might be nice for junior international or u17 getting an award but it's a waste of time in the grand scale.

I heard the FAI have hired Fronk to organise the Awards Event. There will be an Ice Sculpture of John Delaney's flute to represent how he has f*cked the association!

I was delighted for Pavel Nedved when he won the award in 2011. Very well earned by him.
