YBIG Mandate - March 8th at 7pm.
Details on Page 19

**************

We have received a very positive reaction to our mandate and it is clear that there are many people who agree that independent fans need a strong voice to air concerns Irish supporters have going forward.

If you haven't already signed up, please do so here

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1OzJcEbCVECpwhCIT6UY2qc_MG8_1hvWLq9t6-SpL8E8/viewform" rel="nofollow - https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1OzJcEbCVECpwhCIT6UY2qc_MG8_1hvWLq9t6-SpL8E8/viewform

The FAI had promised to introduce a new ticketing scheme called Fans Direct. So far, the Association has not delivered any clarity on the scheme and there seems to have been no progress on the points system which was supposed to be implemented before Ireland's play-off clash with Bosnia last year.

It is also quite clear that the only people who will be judged on their previous attendances at Ireland matches are independent fans as the points system will not be introduced for FAI affiliated Supporters Clubs. However, we do understand that many clubs have their own loyalty system in place and this must be welcomed.

We feel that every fan should be treated equally, be they independent fans or in Supporters Clubs.

The FAI says that 30 per cent of tickets for World Cup qualifiers will be allocated to Ireland fans. This number needs to be revised urgently.

NEXT STEPS

We are also seeking nominations for people to form a working group and who can speak on behalf of YBIG.

If you have any nominations or if you want to put your own name forward, please post in this thread. Thumbs Up

I am happy to put my name forward for the working group in the interest of competition.

I am young, new to the site and hope to be here for a long time.

Certainly not the most experienced or savvy member of the site but no harm in putting my name forward.

I would say it's best for those who live in Dublin , as far as I know only one fits the bill from above .

No nominations for Captain Byrne ??!!

Not sure if any of Gerk, The Count or Hoskins would be able to or like to be involved but think it would be good to have at least one in there.

Actually, I do have an additional thought.
I know somebody mentioned above that these would probably be best suited to people based in Dublin - I can understand that it might be the case from a perspective of meeting with people etc but I think it would be good to have some representation on there from outside of Dublin just to represent the views of fans from outside of Dublin. They may have additional concerns, items for discussion that those in Dublin wouldn't etc.

I believe it was sent to everybody who has signed up.

Email was as follows :

You Boys In Green are pleased to announce an update on the initiative to obtain a voice for independent supporters.  Users of the site sought, via http://ybig.ie/" rel="nofollow - ybig.ie and other platforms, to gain a mandate from Republic of Ireland fans interested in joining together to create a community of supporters who wish to ensure their voice is heard by the Football Association Of Ireland.

The working group has by now received a mandate from several hundred supporters, with this number growing on an ongoing basis.  The majority of these supporters are season ticket holders and regular away travellers. We intend to make contact with the FAI and other key stakeholders, seeking to establish an agreed communication channel for independent supporters.

We will seek to engage with the FAI on the following issues, among others:

  • Improving atmosphere at home and away fixtures

  • Ticketing Issues

  • Future direction of Fans’ Direct

The group encourages anyone who would like to become involved or would like to suggest initiatives to please get in touch.

We will continue to provide updates on the progress of this initiative at regular intervals.

The very simple and transparent Match Ticket Sales Policy at Watford works well and everyone knows their position

No mention of needing to be in Supporters Clubs .....just an Individual Fan ID

Its a shame no one has thought to suggest a similar scheme to our good friends at the FAI Wink

Thanks for the explanation.
I also read the original thread as you suggested.

In what forum will this new group argue for greater transparency that the members don't already argue in?
Given the new group's size (c.400 was the last figure I saw)relative to say the largest supporters club(950+),do you think the FAI will be bothered to listen to an organisation that brings no collective revenue to the table (the group won't involve itself in distribution of ticketing and is publicly vociferous in it's criticism of the FAI and virulently hostile and antagonistic to the CEO of the association it wants to influence?

It seems that YBIG had a place at the FAI table and, now that it has lost that place to supporters clubs, is jealously desperate to get it back.
The supporters clubs are cleverly succeeding at a game in which the FAI make the rules, own the ball and have the keys to the playing field. As Irish supporters of long standing know only too well, moral victories bring no prizes.

I am currently travelling and will respond to this later however your charge of jealousy does question your motives

In terms of jealously, as somebody who signed up to the YBIG mandate, I certainly am not jealous of anything. I just wanted to be treated equally as any fan should.

At 400 we would be the second largest grouping of supporters many of whom are regular travellers, we already have  had one meeting with the FAI/Confed representative re atsmosphere and a second meeting with just the FAI the record of which will be sent out to those who signed up to the mandate. We see no reason why it cannot be publically posted as it will be of interest to all but it is going to mandate signatures firstly. I wasn't aware that the selling of additional tickets was restricted to SC members only.

the group has no business nor interest in distributing tickets - those who sign up  either deal with FAI direct on tickets or through their relevant supporters club

The mandate group does not speak for the forum which is a totally different entity, the mandate group speaks only for those who signed the mandate. Forum is open to all and anybody can sign up log in posters have to stand over their own individual posts. If the mandate committee issues a press release on any issue it will be signed by the committee

The mandate group are attempting to get a working relationship with the FAI, they will not be joining the confederation and will thus retain their independence and the ability to criticise where warrented. We seek a level playing field for ALL supporters so no one group has an advantage and supporters are judged on their attendance records not who they know.

I look forward to the confederation next press release (hopefully better than their last Wink) and their championing of a universal away scheme applicable to all fans whether in supporters clubs or not

It is not affiliated to the confederation/FAI  and so we retain the independence to criticise when required

Thanks for the explanation.
I also read the original thread as you suggested.

In what forum will this new group argue for greater transparency that the members don't already argue in?

you would be surprised how many people dip into this forum despite throwing teddy out of the pram at various stages, especially around match days and away travel, its nearly like the 'go to' place for info, hell even the FAI log in Smile

One further question. What if the FAI, after meeting with the mandate group, refuse to budge on your demands? What action can the group take? .

You would hardly  expect us to divulge such top secret information on a public form , who do you think we are the White House ?

I hope I am wrong and that you get all the fairness you request, but, I would again point out that, in this game, the FAI make the rules, own the ball and regretfully decide on what is fair.
Good luck.

Received the update yesterday lads. Good to see Fai willing to meet the group has to be seen as a positive move

Just one thing wondering was there any kind if timeframe given from fai on issues like number of members in fans direct etc

Reason I'm wondering is because know of some people trying to join it in last number of weeks and have not been able to do so as received no reply to the online form they completed

All people who signed up to the YBIG Mandate group should by now have received an email with an update on developments.

We did receive a number of bounce backs for various reasons. Where there were obvious typos on submitted email addresses we have corrected those but if anyone who signed up from here hasn't received the update then please re enter your details through the sign-up link and we'll send the update on.

Also, if anyone hasn't signed up to the mandate but is interested in doing so then please do so via the link and we'll add you to the database.

As mentioned before, we do not claim to speak for the site as a whole and can only speak for those who agree to sign up to the mandate.

We hope to confirm timescales/deadline at the next meeting. We were advised that FD numbers would be confirmed
