FA Cup quarter-final replays have been scrapped from next season.

The Football Association said the decision was part of its "ongoing review" of the competition and helped to "ease English football's congested fixture schedule".

Semi-final replays were phased out after Manchester United's 1999 victory over Arsenal on their way to winning the treble.

FA chief executive Martin Glenn said the change "adds excitement"

As English Premier League clubs will have one weekend off in February from the 2019-20 season the following change will happen to the FA Cup:-

The FA Cup fifth round will be moved to midweek dates outside the period set aside for the break, with replays being scrapped at that stage

They should really just scrap all replays and the team from the lower league plays at home.

That keeps the EPL and lower leagues happy.

Then move all games to midweek after the 4th round.

Wouldn't it be far more beneficially (financially) for the lower league teams to play away if playing any of the big teams in the PL? Surely a L2 side or lower would make far more money from ticket sales in a stadium that hold 40,000+ than their home ground of 5k?

Yeah, you definitely want an away tie. We made enough money for the whole season in our away game at Barnsley a couple a years ago. In the same season Warrington Town got to the 2nd round, I know a lad involved with the club there and he said they'd made enough money to last them 8-10 seasons.

I found this on bbc's site:

The Football Association’s rules stipulate that gate receipts are split 45% to each side, with 10% going to the governing body. If there is a replay, gates are split 42.5% each with 15% going to the FA.

If a Premier League team sold 50,000 seats at £30 or more each that would generate a minimum of £1.5 million. So an away tie to a big Premier League club could mean a windfall of at least £675,000 from gate receipts alone.

You could add the lower league team can decide to play at home or if it makes sense to play at the bigger clubs grounds.

I guess it depends on capacity/location/history of the club.

And if it will be on TV.

So the away team actually does a lot better out of it so? Seeing as the 45% the home side gets has to cover all the costs of staging the game.

Yeah true. Home team do get to sell the food and merch etc that day too but an away tie is a massive money spinner if you can make the 3rd round.

As a home team if you can get a 1st round match on BBC it was £69k and £72k for a 2nd round (that was 2014 so I assume it's gone up). Think it's around 150k for the 3rd which can be absolutely massive for a non league team.

The FA Cup is set to be broadcast exclusively on free-to-air television for an extended period for the first time since the late 1980s, with ITV close to joining the BBC as rights holders.

In a boost for the tournament before Saturday’s final between Manchester City and Watford at Wembley, which will be shown on BBC and BT Sport, it is understood that ITV is close to an agreement with the FA over a four-year package from the start of the 2021-22 season. It will guarantee larger television audiences for the oldest cup competition in the world.

Good to hear.

ITV shouldn’t be allowed anything!

Greed has won, big finance has won. Whatever small role elite clubs still play in the local communities from which they grew is dwarfed now by their position as global brands.

Things ITV ruined :
The FA cup/football in general
Rugby
Morecambe and Wise
Every sitcom ever (except for Rising Damp)
Horse Racing
Tony Hancock
Des Lynam
The Jonathan Ross show
Coronation Street (now so bad it's unintentionally comical)
Adrian Chiles and that nordie woman
