Brighton & Hove Albion under-21 defender Glen Rea made his Republic of Ireland debut on Saturday. The centre-back, who can also play in midfield, completed 90 minutes for Ireland’s under-21s during their 1-0 reverse to the USA in Marbella, earning commendation from boss Noel King. He said, “Brian Lenihan did very well, Glen Rea did well in midfield, Conor Wilkinson was good up front. “I don't like naming individuals but overall we used 16 players and they all acquitted themselves well. It's been a worthwhile exercise and we look forward to facing Russia on Monday ------------- Jackie Charlton, Eoin Hand Johnny Giles. Well holy be to god. There wasn't a lot of drama there in the past, except when Teasy lost it and the theme tune meant bedtime. Still far play to the lad, he is taking the byroads but he will get there ------------- Greed has won, big finance has won. Whatever small role elite clubs still play in the local communities from which they grew is dwarfed now by their position as global brands. |
