Another lad off the Cork City production line. He was part of Citys back to back double winning u19 side . He is also a regular in the Irish u19 side. Preston signed him in January I think. A very promising midfielder by all accounts.

He has played in Prestons last 4 games. Came on as a sub in 3 and played the full 90 yesterday (his full debut). Preston are all but guaranteed a play-off spot. So he could be a Championship player next year.

He turns 19 this week. So another one for the future. I had never heard of him before today.

Theres a thread about him on the PNE forum. Most PNE fans  had him as MOTM before someone got a late hat-trick LOL   But they are all full of praise

The Preston fans are raving about Alan again after prestons 5-2 win over Shrewsbury.
He's played the full 90 in their last 3 games. He's someone I'll be keeping an eye on as much as Jack Grealish who's in the same division.

Saw him play in a few end of season games for preston last season and looked very impressive and comfortable on the ball for an 18 year old. Hopefully he will cement down a place in the starting 11 (which i think he will) and will have a good chance of playing championship football next season with preston having a great chance of promotion

Any cork lads on here know how much cork city got for him?

What i mean by not too long is the next year or two as i think preston will be promoted which will make him a championship player.

Preston are one of the clubs to watch from an Irish perspective.

Doyle, Browne, Cunningham and McCarthy all Irish lads.

Three of them could have a future for Ireland although Doyle would want to hit the goal trail fairly lively.

Daniel Johnson supplied a lot of Doyle's goals at Chesterfield. Hopefully once Doyle gets a good run of games they can rediscover that spark.

McCarthy injured 10 minutes into his debut but could be back in a matter of weeks.

Bolton fans were impressed with him during his loan spell and Preston fans were enamoured with his signing.

Bournemouth have offered £2m to PNE for the services of Alan Browne, That would spell good news for Cork City FC and Ringmahon Rangers FC, Personally i would think he would be better off with PNE for another twelve months. ( Source Niall O'Riordan, Twitter )

Roy Keane was in the attendance yesterday, apparently, and can't have failed to have been impressed by what he saw from Browne. Really seems to have come into his own over the last few weeks. As well as scoring, he was unlucky with another effort after a driving run into the area that the goalkeeper did very well to tip onto the post.

Watched Preston lose 1-0 in a dire game at home v Ipswich. Was hoping to see more of Browne, but on today’s showing at least he looks a lot like our other midfielders. Lots of running and little craft. Reminded me of Hendrick.

Don’t know what Horgan has to do to get in this team. He came on for the last twenty minutes and was one of the few players who showed some ability on the ball. Pulled out a superb cross that should have been the equalizer.

Really sh*t game though. Wow.

I’d say Browne has a little less craft than the Professor AKA Jeff Hendrick

The ones who are good enough (Browne, Cunningham, probably Maguire, and maybe Horgan) would all stay there. The rest would all get moves to similarly placed Championship teams. Overall I think it would be great for Ireland if Preston went up.

Great to see him do well. Would love to see PNE get promoted.

I wouldn’t!

It would mean the end of the Irish lads there to an extent.

The ones who are good enough (Browne, Cunningham, probably Maguire, and maybe Horgan) would all stay there. The rest would all get moves to similarly placed Championship teams. Overall I think it would be great for Ireland if Preston went up.

I think McG's point is that Preston, as a club with limited means, (I believe their record signing is still the £1.5m they paid for David Healy in 2001) obviously scout the LoI for bargains and have have offered several LoI players a route into Championship football. Would that be the case we're they to attain PL status with the newfound spending power that that it would bring about?

I'm not sure if its Preston who scout the LOI, so much as it was Grayson who scouted the LOI intensively for a short period of time... In any case, I think the positives of Preston getting promoted would far outweigh the negatives from an Irish POV.

Hes played well always on the ball looking to make something happen. Compare that when he played against turkey. I can barely remember him touching the ball. Such a difference in styles.

There is also a difference between international football and the English second tier, if not necessarily in quality but in pace and tempo.

Greed has won, big finance has won. Whatever small role elite clubs still play in the local communities from which they grew is dwarfed now by their position as global brands.

Not really, the likes of Moldova and Georgia would be Championship standard at best, as are many of the other teams we come up against. Even Wales and Austria in our last group drew a fair few of their players from the Championship/Championship quality leagues. People vastly overestimate how big a step up it is to international football, bar the big nations, most sides are fairly modest. The biggest difference for the likes of Browne and Hourihane is how they're asked to play for Ireland vs. how they're asked to play for their club sides; with Ireland, they're basically there as extra defenders, with Preston and Villa, they're pushed forward and given support.
