Heard the original Billy Joel version recently, reminded me of this Italia '90 classic.

Sounded better in 1990 to be honest

Chorus:
Were gonna start a fire
And when Rome is burning
there'll be no returning

Were gonna start a fire
We have Jack to mind us
and the fans behind us

Verse 3:
Butragueno, Hungary
We spared the Dutch in Germany
Charlie Hurley, Liam Tuohy

Ray Houghton, Liverpool
Ronnie Whelan's so cool
O'Leary in the Sunday World
Con is in the press

Stuttgart was no dream
now we have a winning team
Billy Bingham, Budapest
Man of Magic, Georgie Best
Eamon Dunphy writes it down
Dalymount to Landsdowne
English Football in a mess
Trouble on the Terraces

Chorus:
Were gonna start a fire
And when Rome is burning
there'll be no returning

Were gonna start a fire
We have Jack to mind us
and the fans behind us

Verse4:

We have Jack to mind us
and the fans behind us

Verse5:
Netherlands, Egypt
England got a free trip
Pleaded, Seeded
Because of the supporters
Ruud Gullit might be out
Holland wouldn't have a shout
Hoddle and Waddle
Have they got the bottle
We have England in the draw
And the Dutch like before
One thing that were grateful for
We didnt get the Mafia

Chorus:
Were gonna start a fire? And when Rome is burning
there'll be no returning

Were gonna start a fire
We have Jack to mind us
and the fans behind us

Verse6:
Seeded in Sicily
Off the coast of Italy
6 hours boat trip
We can take the hardship
But the fans couldnt care
They can travel anywhere
No one else can match the sound
Our supporters bring around
June 11, English Game
We can do the trick again
Egypt next and then the Dutch
Its the second round for us
When we finally get to Rome
No one will be left at home
Aldridge is about to score
Listen to the Irish Roar

Chorus:
Were gonna start a fire
And when Rome is burning
there'll be no returning

Were gonna start a fire
We have Jack to mind us
and the fans behind us

Tune and a half, very much underrated. As good as Put Em Under Pressure!

This is a poor line though.

One thing that were grateful for
We didnt get the Mafia

When we finally get to Rome
No one will be left at home
Aldridge is about to score

The very last line is a change to the chorus as the song plays out with the chorus on repeat, but they change the last line to '' We'll win the Sam Maguire''

The strangest part of this is, despite the clear similarities to the video I made for this song, I had no idea this video existed until today.  And f**k me, its been 15 years since I made that video (tets even supplied the Ronnie Whelan Sr photo -- and they used the same footage it would seem).

Cheers for the share lads...

Its a brilliant song. I've tried to DJ it with the Billy Joel Original, exact same structure and length. Tempo is only slightly different, very easy to match and flick between tracks. Some effort with the lyrics

I was gong to to their reunion gig this year. They're meant to have been a a brilliant band and their venison of bohemian rhapsody was meant to be well worth hearing

Loved it.  30 years ago yesterday and today had it, Michael Carwood's Euro 88 and other football anthems blaring on the car stereo during the long drive north from Cefalu.
