Vilamoura only 30 mins from Faro, not that Albufeira is that much further.

Team will prob be based in Faro. Will be basing myself in Vilamoura if this is at a warm time of the year. Which is all year in the Algarve except Nov to Jan/early Feb

No, but politically I don't think any Spanish club will rent them their Stadium so they will have to go west over to the Algarve so the Algarve will be a good bet of where the game will be played.

Interesting fact that they are building a stadium called Europa Point Stadium which was supposed to start last October and in some reports was to be completed for the qualifying matches of Euro 2016 which might change the travel and Accomm plans of many who automatically persume it will be in the Algarve but looking at other reports, its unlikely that it will be finished in time.

I wouldn't worry about this, it's not expected to be completed until 2016 not for 2016

Will tickets be an issue for this game?

Was in Vilamoura last June for a wedding - really nice spot but very relaxing. Really nice casino and few clubs but Albufeira is only 20/30 mins in a Taxi from it. Vilamoura more up market.

Flew from London day after Ireland game.

Well, I'm definitely doing that. Will probably fly home, but my plan is looking something like this:

Tuesday
08:05 Dublin - Holyhead 11:30
11:27 Holyhead - London 15:38 (€46) - Tickets including ferry available from any Irish rail station or http://www.irishferries.com" rel="nofollow - www.irishferries.com

Wednesday
07:55 London - Paris 11:22 (£39) - Tickets available from http://www.eurostar.com" rel="nofollow - www.eurostar.com - on sale 180 days in advance.
12:28 Paris - Irun 18:20 (€36) - Tickets from http://www.voyages-sncf.com" rel="nofollow - www.voyages-sncf.com - on sale ~90 days in advance.
18:50 Irun - Lisbon 07:20 (€37) - including bed for the night - Tickets on sale from http://www.renfe.es" rel="nofollow - www.renfe.es - on sale ~90 days in advance.

Thursday
17:20 Lisbon - Faro 20:43 (€13) - Tickets available from http://www.cp.pt" rel="nofollow - www.cp.pt - on sale ~60 days in advance.

While it might be €180-odd, it does include a night's accommodation and I have a friend I can stay with in London for the first night, plus it gives a day to see Lisbon and do stuff there.

would do similar route SD but would be a) starting from London, b) stopping* for a night in Irun, burgos, vigo, porto, lisbon and c) take 5 days to do it before arriving in the algarve the obligatory day before the game. would also fly back.

*if irun and burgos are worth seeing.

Although it's not til 18 months  I'm tempted to make a lads holiday out of this since you can get to Ibiza/Mallorca from Lisbon Airport Thumbs Up

Gibraltar FA have pretty much confirmed their stadium back at home won't be ready until the WC 2018 Qualifiers, it's not even passed the planning stage yet so no chance of it being moved from Faro.

There's also talk of the Portuguese government cancelling the Sudexpress. I can't see why. Most other night trains across Europe that have been cancelled have been replaced with new high speed tracks. That's not happening in Spain at the minute, certainly not across the Sudexpress route. Even were the alternative Paris-Barcelona-Madrid-Lisbon all high speed (which it won't be for some time, especially not the Madrid-Lisbon part), it still wouldn't be as time-efficient as the Sudexpress. As it is, you can leave Paris in the afternoon and arrive in Lisbon in the morning. Without the Sudexpress, starting in Paris, and overnighting in Madrid, even with a daytime train from Madrid to Lisbon (which doesn't exist), you wouldn't arrive until the following afternoon.

If they axe it, the alternative will be a night in Irun (Tuesday), a night in Vigo (Wednesday) and arriving Thursday evening in Faro. Fares are okay - Irun to Vigo is €14.30 booked in advance (for a 12 hr train), Vigo to Porto is €13.75, Porto to Faro is €28 booked in advance. However, it also means paying for two extra night's accommodation - it takes a day longer to get there, plus it doesn't include a night train. It would mean leaving Dublin on Monday morning.

Progress, eh?

Edit: scratch that. It appears the train is run by the Spanish now, so cancellation might not be an issue.

I have no great urge to see Madrid SD. Would prefer to visit a random town or city in northern Spain and enter Portugal from the north.

I know a tidy barmaid in the local here from Burgos...might give an opening

Well, apparently the scenery on the Irun to Vigo train is worth seeing. I mean, much and all as you;d get tired of it after a 12 hour journey with only a couple of 15 minute stops to get off and stretch your legs.

Quote "The scenery from Irun to Vigo is very varied. The first hour or two the line follows river valleys through the Pyrenees. Due to recent storms the rivers were severely flooded and quite spectacular. Much of the journey is then across a plain with distant views of snow-capped mountains, including the southern edge of the Picos de Europa.  As you reach Galicia the journey gets exciting, as the line climbs through mountains, and at one stage does a 360-degree spiral to change levels. It follows a very attractive river and several lakes."

Still, I fancy the overnighter, €37 including a bed. Not a bad price. The beds may not be the best, but whatever:

.

Hmmmm.

You can only get the train from Lisbon or Porto to Faro Mitch. No train line linking Algarve to Spain. I got the bus from Faro to Seville a couple of years back. Took about three hours but was a pretty cool trip and Seville of course is a stunning city.

For the people living in North of England, you can get a direct flight from Newcastle to Faro Thumbs Up

Annoyingly it's the only away match where you can get a direct flight here - No Gelsenkirchen (Neither of the 3 airports closest), Warsaw, not even Glasgow if I wanted to get there that way Ouch

Annoyingly it's the only away match where you can get a direct flight here - No Gelsenkirchen (Neither of the 3 airports closest), Warsaw, not even Glasgow if I wanted to get there that way Ouch

Take a look at germanwings.de ............ i have a price of €100 for a return flight Newcastle-Düsseldorf. Wink

a fella told me last weekend that he was ata wwedding for the 94 win over Italy. The hotel put a big screen into the reception area for it and everyone was glued to it. The bride was disgusted that she was second to the boys in green on her big day. Serves her right for putting her wedding on that day

A week before the wedding......take him into Fitzpatricks for a quiet bite to eat, then up Lily Finnegans where you proceed to get him sh*tfaced and when he is hanging over his pints and shots.......strip the fecker and bundle him into a taxi in a G-String.
Drop him in the Quays in Newry with his future father in laws mobile number and a hand towel to cover himself and wait to hear from the wife to be......

1. either the wedding is off
2. you are no longer invited

Either way you can make the trip......LOL

Booked B&B for a week in hotel bang in middle of Albufeira yesterday for this for around £270 incl airport transfers. We based ourselves there for Portugal game in 2000 in Lisbon and again few years ago when Celtic were playing Benfica in Champions League ... great spot and the weather will be brilliant in early September

What's the idea behind that? Surely they have an agreement to play all games in Portugal this campaign and can't just decide to play in another country???

Within 60 days of the European Qualifiers fixture list being published, the
associations must submit a list of proposed European Qualifiers stadiums to the
UEFA administration for approval.

Anyone know what stadiums other than the Estadio Algarve that Gibraltar submitted? Was Craven Cottage put forward? Anywhere I look online says the game is scheduled for the Algarve, would be a strange one to move to London.

Ah now here, I was planning on cycling from Santiago in Spain to Faro in Portugal over two weeks..... They cannot screw us around with this sort of carry on again.

I suppose what we really want is an answer with plenty of planning time.

Makes sense I suppose.  If they play in Faro the blazers from the Gibraltar FA would have to get the bus home after the match wheres this way they get a few days in Knightsbridge.

Can't see UEFA agreeing to this, or how it can be equitable or fair.

Should Ireland be allowed to change our home match against Germany to Amsterdam/Vienna for a share of the gate receipts ?

They're playing in a neutral country for every game, what does it matter what neutral country that is?

They are  currently playing in the closest available neutral country, as Andorra have done in Barcelona in the past.

If they moved it to fulham, would they not be sort of handing us home advantage? What would they gain from moving it to england?
