had to google who he is. I recognise him alright. Difficult to give him the benefit of the doubt with  19 charges against him.

They shouldn't be able to give out his name. What if he's innocent? His reputation would be forever damaged. Trial by media.

Coronation Street 's Michael Le Vell charged with child rape

Michael Le Vell

Coronation Street actor Michael Le Vell has been charged with a string of sex offences, including raping a child.

Greater Manchester Police said he is also accused of indecently assaulting a child and sexual activity with a child.

The actor, 48, who plays Kevin Webster in the ITV1 soap, faces a total of 19 charges relating to crimes allegedly committed between 2001 and 2010.

Mr Le Vell, whose real name is Michael Turner, is due before magistrates in Manchester on 27 February.

Alison Levitt QC, principal legal adviser to the Director of Public Prosecutions, said she had reviewed a decision not to prosecute Mr Le Vell following allegations made against him in 2011.

She said: "I have very carefully reviewed the evidence in this case and I have concluded that there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest to charge Michael Robert Turner with a number of sexual offences.

"I have authorised Greater Manchester Police to charge Mr Turner with 19 offences, including rape of a child.

"Mr Turner has now been charged with criminal offences and has a right to a fair trial."

The actor, from Hale in Greater Manchester, has played the role of garage mechanic Kevin Webster for 30 years, making him one of the longest-serving performers in Coronation Street.

Scandalous that he is named, he's already guilty without a trial

If he is guilty he deserves to be hung drawn and quartered

Trial by media again. Too much of this. Due process should follow. And if guilty he should get whatever sentence that is deemed fit for the crime.!

Agree with ye Baldrick, strange decision not to prosecute him in 2011.

Surprising really that Granada didn't phase him out after the 2011 rumours.

He's a goner now though. No way back after this, guilty or not.

I can safely say without fear of contradiction that this guy is nothing short of a dirty rotten filthy stinking paedophile baxtard who deserves to be hung by his nutsack and flogged with tree branches until he's black and blue, then castrated, then burnt at the stake before the watching public, however for the moment we'll allow due process and avoid trial by media. As in any civilised society, he deserves to maintain his good name until he has been found guilty of a crime by a jury of his peers. Those of you jumping the gun on this should just grow up.

If you have 200 million priests, and 5% of them are paedophiles, that's still only 10 million paedophiles!

What's all this trial by media bollocks? Why should he be treated any differently to anyone else?

The only time people are not named is if a judge puts a gag on the media and that's usually to protect the privacy of minors involved in the case. Just because this guy is on TV doesn't mean he should get protected.

she should be named and shamed in the papers for a start.

Can she not be done for wasting police time, defamation of character etc

Careful now....

“I want to be explicitly clear – victims of sexual abuse, whether the offences are alleged or proven, are automatically granted anonymity for life and identifying such victims, either deliberately or inadvertently is a criminal offence"

Just because he was not guilty does not automatically mean she is guilty of perjury.

People should not be named until they are found to be guilty. Person who made it up should be sent off to break rocks or something as punishement.

Turns out he's a corrupt international arms dealer* who is wanted for bribery over the sale of warplanes to Ghana.

*May not be an actual international arms dealer.
