They were just saying in a paper review on local radio here that Gazza is on the brink and killing himself again on the booze once again.
Its on the front page of the Sun so it must be true.

It was all over FB the other nite that a Q&A with Gazza in some club in the north of England was ended after 15mins as he was speaking incoherently due to be being wasted

Gazza is a grade A twat who underachieved in his career and is massively overrated imho.

You should read what fergie wrote about him. it was very interesting. he tried to sign him in the 80s and he reckoned he d have gotten him on the straight and narrow, improved his lifestyle and off the drink if he played for united. he probably would have and all

He is one of the very few ex Rangers/Newcastle players i actually liked well possibly more pitied, don't get me wrong i think his antics to Celtic fans was a disgrace and he righlty so got a backlash but thats for a different day.
There is only way this is going to end, he has been to rehab way to many times! He'll end up dead in a year or two watch this space! I hope it doesn't happen and he finally gets cured but i can't see it happening.

It's very easy for Fergie to say he could have saved him but I don't agree with it. He didn't exactly get Paul McGrath on the path to redemption around the same era. Years later he reflected a different approach might have worked. Hindsight is a great thing.
Would he have really set him on the straight and narrow? I doubt it. He has a problem that is much more serious than anything on a football pitch. Walter Smith would have been no pushover back in his first spell over Rangers. There's a quote in Gazza's book from him. Gascoigne referred to him as a father figure, Smith said he'd never hit his own children, but he'd often wanted to hit Gazza on ocassion.
Graham Taylor or McGrath, not sure which one, said as much in Back From The Brink, that it was wishful thinking that Paul would have stayed healthy had Taylor not taken the England job.

sad stuff
as u were saying about his mental state , ive read the autobiographies (gazzas is feckin hilarious , his italy stories are legendary)Fergie wouldve ironed him out.
I will be typically vilified for this but Glasgow Rangers managed him so fecking badly , buying him a lodge on loch lomond were he drank himself to sleep most nights whilst playing up to his party persona in the media, bastas the lotta them.
I fecking liked gascoigne man, central midfield dribblers are hard to come by in the modern game.

With respect Del Piero you re being unfair to fergie in regards to McGrath. There's more to it than that. As far as I remember he wrote that He completely got rid of the drink culture at united that was accepted under Atkinson.McGrath, Whiteside and Robson were drinking too much and he needed to break trinity up. According to that article below it was for football reasons as fergie couldnt rely on their fitness. fergie in his autobiography i think wrote how he inherited this heavy drink culture at united and it was best for whiteside and mcgrath to move on whether it was their fitness or lifestyle. Fergie said how McGrath needed the change of scenery. If fergie brought in gazza, it'd be his player and therefore i think he'd have handled him better and maybe would ve been a success. Fergie handled volatile fellas like Cantona and Keano so i think he probably would ve been successful with gazza. He's one of the best man managers there ever was

OK, I realise it was unfair the way I referenced McGrath and Fergie. However, I still think its wishful thinking he would have made a difference.
He is one of the great man managers of course. I'm not debating that. But he's not God, every piece of copper he touches doesn't turn to gold when it comes to this. For example Ravel Morrison had his off-field problems didn't he?
Keane and Cantona, examples you mentioned, are very different cases to Gazza to be fair. Yes they were volatile, but compare and contrast the off-field problems these players had. Are they as extreme as Gazza?
He referred to Smith as a father figure, still went off the rails. He also worked with Venables, noted for his man-management skills if not his tactical genius. Still behaved the way he did. What I'm saying is that for all the man management skills managers have, I don't think they could have saved him really.
It is a shame cause he was bloody excellent footballer. Rangers had a great side that won them 8 and 9 in a row, Laudrup and Gazza were the driving force behind those sides and some of the stuff they played was sublime.
Some players have been lucky to defeat their demons, but Gazza isn't one of them

Sorry, I probably shoulda qualifed that. Ability and talent-wise there was nobody to touch him but his stupid and self-inflicted knee injury in that 1991 Cup Final meant it was a case what might've been. Would agree regarding Scholes in terms of career achievements and consistency, but for me in terms of what Gazza could do, ie run at players and beat them easily, left foot, right foot, decent shot, great passer and dead-ball ability, he was way ahead of any English player in terms of natural footballing ablility I've seen since Glenn Hoddle.

I read the mans book. He never stood a chance. I remember being in Blackpool one easter around the time Gascoigne was making a name for himself at Newcastle. We were in a pub and got chatting and having the craic with a few gerordie lads and lasses. One of the geordie lads who know gazza and his family well told me that he was a great player but that the people around him were all mad for the drink and headbangers.
I heard a story about gazza turning up at the bar in Dalymount at half time in his Middlesboro gear after being subbed in a match against Bohs. Anyone on here hear this story ?

Gazza in drunken brawl with Stevenage mascot by Henry Winter
Paul Gascoigne has been arrested on Friday night after being charged with the assault of a giant teddybear believed to be the mascot of local football club Stevenage Borough. Mr. Gascoigne was held in custody by police and formal charges were issued to the former England star before being released on bail.
Mr. Gascoigne was in the locality of Stevenage to unveil the opening of a new local Oddbins Off Licence and was in the company of representatives of the local football club and its mascot when he decided to take advantage of some free champagne that was being made on offer to local press and media for the opening.
Witnesses said that 'Gazza' then began to join in with the local press and according to one onlooker 'downed at least 6 or 7 glasses of champagne' before becoming aggressive and turning his anger on the giant teddybear whom he called a 'dirty f****n animal' before grabbing the bear in a headlock and performing a WWE manouvre known as a 'figure 4 leg lock'. One eyewitness said the bear had tried to diffuse Mr. Gascoigne's aggression by hugging him and singing a childrens song '12 Green Bottles' but this seemed to infuriate the Geordie legend even more before unleashing a series of blows to the bear's head.
This is the latest in a long line of bizarre 'Gazza' incidents and is widely known that the former Tottenham and Lazio star is suffering from Alcoholism and has only recently returned to England after a stay at an Arizona rehab facility. Mr. Gascoigne is due in court on October 22nd in Stevenage District Court.

Seen the documentary advertised last night alright! Won't be watching it! What are they going to show that the public won't already know about Gazza? He's a mess, He loves the sauce and I'm sure he will breakdown in tears at some point during the documentary as always. This tune on him has been played out to the death. Don't get me wrong it's a horrible disease but don't see the need for another documentary on the trials and tribulations of Gazza!
