No, but I did have a bit of ding dong with him on Saturday night over the rugby when I pointed out an article he wrote about Kildare a couple of years back in which he railed against the exact type of cheap, tabloid blowhard he has turned into when he talks about rugby.

Yeah I just packed it in and deleted it earlier, nothing but spam, ads and suggestions on topics I've absolutely no interest in the last while.

Done the same with Instagram last year and Facebook the year before that, they were the first to go this way.

Was never really an active user on any of them bar to follow certain users / groups / topics I liked to have everything in one convenient newsfeed you could just scroll and see everything you wanted at ease. Then every 2nd post became an ad or suggestion.

Musk has always been very anti-WFH. I can see why in Tesla, if you've the average workers on the floor making components etc, it creates a two-tier structure if management are sitting at home. Same at a few places like Intel in Ireland.

Saw that 3 part documentary on him on BBC recently.  He expects all his staff to work 20 hrs a day, 7 days a week by the sounds of it.

He's a geek who thinks everybody should be consumed with work like he is.

The board and SM had to go - Musk criticised them non stop for the past few years, couldn't ork with them. They all get nice payoffs anyway and will walk into other jobs so don't cry too hard for them.

Wouldn't be nice to be a staff member in Dublin. Going from not having to go the office to having to do 40 hours a week.
I know if that happened to me it would mess up my family routine and would have me considering career at the company.

He seems to be going in very hard and you wonder why being this hard on the company.

Can see the other company being set up by ex twitter owners taking over a good chunk of the market share

What will happen is that all the good staff will leave and trying to recruit good staff will be a challenge, good employees know their worth and want to be treated well and have some level of flexibility.

^^^, in a nutshell.

There are swaths of people out there who are now preferring high value contract work over permanent employment, and they call the shots as far as ways of work are concerned. Also, other companies will see the hybrid model as a way of attracting employees knowing competitors are demanding staff to be present, even if there is no business/commercial reason for it. Assuming that people want to work exclusively for high salaries and big names is shooting wide of the mark.

Another thing that has crept in is new starters are demanding a signing on fee!

We offered a person a job - she wanted her salary doubled - she got it - and then she wanted a 25% signing on fee up front! - we laughed, thought she was joking, she wasn't, we went back to HR and got it.

Last year existing employees all got a 'not leaving bonus'. We got a significant bonus for not leaving the company, and we got that because other companies are offering much higher salaries and perks and trying to replace good quality workers is near impossible.

The money being thrown around in IT jobs is mental. Sister in law got poached and got her salary doubled, only 8 months in the job and another crowd have offered her a crazy amount again.

A lad I kick ball with left construction 4/5 years back and went back to college to study IT.  Week after graduation had a job interview, asked him how much he wanted, said something between 35 and 40 a year, they threw an extra 30 on top, decked out his home office too.

The thought process is odd. Basically put their work culture at odds with a lot of the commercial sector where long hours and being present in a office has been replaced by meeting targets and fulfilling obligations, and at least some WFH offering. Also, with respect, Twitter don’t have the same cache in the job market that other companies do, that try and impose a ‘discount’ be it on pay or working conditions in order to have ‘X’ company in your CV, as though that is compensatory.

The tech stock prices have dropped massively. While Tesla is the darling of the car markets for now. How log will that last?

Considering he has probably over paid for Twitter by 20+billion, if Twitter goes to sh*t and Tesla shares drop more next year I wouldn't be surprised if he has to sell Twitter at a fraction of the cost he paid for it. Now that would be enjoyable to see.

He needs to cut more staff IMO. This is a way of getting rid of some more

Why?

I still feel Twitter is very overstaffed. They don't develop anything, don't really sell anything, they've just maintained the one app for 10 years. That should be a 500-800 person company, I've no idea why they needed 7,000 people to begin with. Musk's plan so far seems to be...
1. Reduce costs (people)
2. Improve revenue (subscription service)
3. Company will become profitable and his investment will start generating a return.

This. Twitter is a caged animal, it’s a very fine balancing act keep all aspects safe, laying off 75% staff may work financially in the short term but certainly won’t longer term

Shure they could hardly manage that with 8,000 people

So if they couldn't manage it with 8000 your solution is to reduce that amount by 90% Wacko

I keep getting added to these random conversations with these Asian folks. I don't even read it - just delete it.

Twitter is toxic anyway.

Twitter has been in serious decline for a while now. Since Musk took over it’s just a cesspit of racism, homophobia and transphobia.

The last couple of days has ramped this up by multiples. Legacy blue ticks are removed and all I can see are posts from Twitter blue w**kers. I just block every twitter blue account I come across.

I hate it but I still cannot help looking at it a few times a day. I think in a year or two it will cease to exist.

It always has been a cesspit. If you stay on the 'Following' tab and not the 'For you' tab, it's much better. I just follow football accounts and not many of them so my feed is just football related. I wouldn't even look at comments.

It's the most toxic platform of social media.

Zero accountability. Faceless racists, bigots, trolls, you name it.

I'm still on it every day though LOLCool

If you keep seeing sh*te you don't like, block the accounts and let the algorithm do the rest. I used keep getting NBA tweets  showing up and after blocking a few of the accounts, I don't see anything.

I've blocked every advertiser I see on there and its at the point now they are looking like AI generated companies LOL

Loads of fake Loyalist accounts too. You'd want to see some of the absolutely laughable theories they come up with.

Elon has turned Twitter into a farce. He hasn't got a clue what he's doing. Blue checkmarks are now just a way to identify weird Elon Musk fanboys.

I see former CEO Jack Dorsey has launched a twitter alternative called Bluesky, hopefully it can provide some serious competition.

If you keep it on the Following tab and not the For You tab, you only get the feed from the accounts you're following. I only follow a few Irish football/sports pages so only see news related to that and look at it every few days for a few mins and I'm caught up.

In saying that, the Irish football accounts now are an embarrassment run by kids, had to unfollow the majority of them.

I'm guessing Elon Musk must be smart to be a billionaire but his rebranding of twitter is absolutely thick.  You dont destroy a brand that has proven hugely successful.
