Did anyone see the documentary about him a few days ago? Only caught the last 20 minutes of it but it looked quality - sometimes you forget just how massive Phil Lynott was - pretty much Ireland's first ever superstar.

So hard to believe tis 30 years since Phil died.
I was a lot younger but still remember hearing of his death on the news and my Ma and my older brothers talkin about it.

I loved Thin Lizzy and still do.
I thought Gary Moore and the boys did a great tribute a few years back in the "One Night In Dublin" concert which I saw on Sky Arts.

I visited the National Wax Museum in Dublin for the first time back in late August, and there is an excellent waxwork of Phil playing his bass guitar-it looked so real.

I sure do,Gary....
I've sat there many a time on a visit to the capital with a pint of the black stuff, and looking at that brilliant work of art.I've heard about it being wrecked more than once by blackguards-those ****s will always be around and probably never caught.

I've also visited his grave in Sutton and left a little Irish tricolour there.
Just standing over the man's grave felt more than surreal.

Feels special just standing there, doesn't it?

Meself and me nephew went to the Ireland v Armenia match and had planned to visit Phil's grave on that day too-my nephew even brought Phil's biography with him so he could read it on the bus up to Dublin. We each brought two small tricolours-one each for the match and one each for Phil's grave.
Once we found St.Polen's section at the cemetery, obviously Phil's grave wasn't too hard to find.Tis hard to describe the feeling actually being there, but the feeling of sadness was definitely there.

Greed has won, big finance has won. Whatever small role elite clubs still play in the local communities from which they grew is dwarfed now by their position as global brands.

I'm going to see Brian Downey's band Alive and Dangerous in South Shields next week.

Should be a cracking night.

I saw them at the Vibe for Philo event in Dublin two years ago and they were quality as they were at Ballyshannon this year.

He had a son that had to be given away for adoption around 6 years the stroy came out. The son never knew any of it either. But Philomena was in denial about that and refused to acknowledge her grandson, not that he has ever tried to use the new knowledge of his father for anything.

Bit harsh on him, but she always seemed like a woman stuck living in the past

Also heard many positive stories about Philomena when she has looked after the Thins fans with her kindness and hospitality.

That's not true, she acknowledged him and met him and his son when the son was born.

He was given up for adoption in 1968 and only traced his birth parents after his adoptive parents died when he was 35.

Amazing that they havent turned My Boy into a movie yet. There has been talk down the years and at one point Omero Mumba was touted as playing a young phil and i THINK lenny kravitz was even rumoured at the time. Omero Dead

Great book as is The Rocker.

Lads, they had a private relationship when he first made contact and then she publicly acknowledged him. Was widely reported atthe time. He was at her partner's funeral before she even went public. These things are always complicated when it comes to adopted kids contacting birth families.
