Kind of surprised Fergie let him back to Italy. I would have thought playing at a PL club would have done more for him.

Do you think he has a future at OT?

Ben Arfa signs permanent Newcastle deal according to RTE. The guy plays four games and then busts his legs. Madness at Newcastle continues. He's a good player but to sign him up permanently to a four and a half year deal before he can demonstrate he can cut it in the PL is lunacy.

Adam Rooney linked with a switch to Russian side Kuban Krasnodar. Make of that what you will.

Quotes from Rooney in the article:

"My family are over from Dublin and I want to have a good chat with them to see what they think," Rooney has said. "I certainly believe I'm going to be here at Inverness until the end of the season - I don't see that changing. The truth is I'm really enjoying it here and I enjoy the way Caley Thistle play.

"I'm playing regularly and managing to score a few goals. I don't see that changing either, but I'll sit down with the family and then seek out the gaffer for a chat. I never knew much about the area before I moved up from Stoke, but I really like it here.

"The people are friendly and welcoming and nobody really bothers you around Inverness. I'm really settled and I've got good friends at the club, but everyone wants to test themselves at the highest level possible. It's about determining what is best for your career."

Beckham will sign for Spurs by Sunday according to Redknapp. That will be a coup for Spurs and will be a bonus when the CL games comes around.

Tottenham close to David Beckham deal, claims Redknapp

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp hopes that former England captain David Beckham will have joined Spurs on a short-term loan deal by Sunday.

The White Hart Lane club have been speaking to LA Galaxy midfielder Beckham, 35, whose American club are understood to be open to his move.

"It will probably get done," said Redknapp. "The clubs are talking and there's a good chance it will happen."

Beckham's first match could be against against former club Manchester United.

Redknapp hopes Beckham will come to watch the club's FA Cup third round match against Charlton on Sunday, before being available to face league leaders United at White Hart Lane the following Sunday.

"I think he could be here on Sunday, possibly, if what I'm being told on the grapevine is right," said Redknapp, who learnt of his Beckham's interest via his former Tottenham footballer son Jamie.

"Hopefully he will come to the game. I'm not 100% sure but he could be here on Sunday. It's just sorting out the length of the loan [now] and one or two other bits and pieces."

Beckham could play up to 10 games for Spurs before he is due to return for the start of the Major League Soccer season when LA Galaxy face the Seattle Sounders on 15 March.

Get real lads
There have been various times over the last 10 years that united and arsenal have been crying out for a top notch keeper
Im sure they could have got him from newcastle no problem but they didnt
Maybe fergie and wenger dont see given as top quality
And lets be honest Joe Hart no matter how much Martin Tyler praises him aint exactly the best keeper ever

Then that would be their loss, Given has been better than any keeper at United for the period between Schmeicael and Van Der Sar and better than any keeper at Arsenal since Seaman.

True, but you wouldn't have blamed Given for going to City. It looked like a massive opportunity for a trophy. He wasn't to know that a little english runt (although he is good) and football politics (the england national team goalie can't be seen as a sub) were going to shaft him.

Lads, some of you need to take off the green tinted glasses. Shay is 34, Joe Hart is 23. He's the future of Man City and England and Shay isn't. Simple as. Mancini either had to pick Hart as his number one or lose him in this transfer window or the summer. Any manager would have picked the same outcome.
What kind of idiots would Mancini and City be if they let Hart go now? Injury permitting, he's got 15 years at the top.
Every goalkeeper makes mistakes too, including Shay. Considering he's only 23 (which is a kid in goalkeepers terms) Hart is doing alright for himself.

Mancini made the right choice in picking Hart as Number 1.

Hart has been excellent as well - although the last few games he has been average (excluding the Arsenal game).

Dont agree at all here lads
Given could have 6/7 years left in him
And with goal keepers mid to late 30s are their prime years
A lot of goal keeping is down to experience and given has an abundance of it at international and club level
It wasnt so long ago that Hart was neck and neck with Kasper Schmeichel at city and Schmeichel got the nod initially i seem to remember
Dont mind what gray and tyler spout every time they see him- Hart isnt a great keeper at present
He didnt even make a shambolic england team during the world cup even though green was making catastrophic errors
Plus mancini couldnt give a fook about the future england keeper etc

His price value will also go through the roof in the coming years.

When Mancini selected Hart as Nr 1 he was after his first good year as a pro and that was on loan at Birmingham at the same time Shay had one of his best seasons.

Green tinted glasses aside...I would prefer to select a goalkeeper who has had 12+ years as a top goalie and realistically has another 5 years in him than a young keeper with 1.5 good years behind him and a potentially excellant future ahead of him.

lads all this talk about Given and Hart is pointless...Mancini picked Hart to be his number 1, he decision has been jusified..City have kept the most (with Sunderland) clean sheets so far this season and conceded the fewest goals and Hart has played a big part in this

For Shay's and Ireland's sake i hope he can get loan or permanent move to another club

Shay has one flaw in his game, may be minor and not revealed that much, but a flaw it is anyway in my opinion - he doesn't come off his line and command his area enough - the carling cup semi final 2nd leg is proof of this

i think thats why the likes of Wenger and Ferguson haven't signed him

might sound harsh when you think of some of the keepers both clubs have had in the last 10 years, but thats why i think neither have wanted him

Well done Baggio.  Godd observation.

I would disagree with you though that it is a minor problem - it's a fricking huge problem!

He has never commanded his area. Ever!  He is one of teh best shot-stoppers I've see, but shot stopping is only scratching teh surface of what a keeper should be employed to do!

Given is an overrated keeper - no doubt about that!  He doesn't command enough, nor does he instil a confidence behind his defenders.

Bagggio uses the Carling Cup game as proof of Given not being commanding; I'd give another - a much more high-profile one.  That famous Henry handball for the Gallas goal.....A better keeper, or a keeper that instills a know-how in to his back four would have had that launched ball in to the box dealt with!

Hart > Given!  No doubt about that.  Hart can give City a dozen years of service at the very top level!

Wenger ad Ferguson have tried to sign about 20 goalkeepers in the last decade or so and none of them even considered Shay Given.  He's not as great as we like to think he is here!

Shay is a bit of a dracula keeper alright

The 2 games in ot last season city conceded about 3 headed goals- 2 from fletcher i think and 1 from rooney- all these crosses dropped within about 7 or 8 yards of the goal line and a more imposing keeper would have picked them out of the air

Although in saying that Hart has had a few dodgy games with england and city over the past year- the switzerland game comes to mind anyway

Plus Leicester looked like scoring everytime they put in a half decent set piece

i said 'minor' problem as it hasn't led to goals for the opposition on that many occasions considering how many years Given has been playing football at the top level.

dont get me wrong he's still a great keeper in my opinion - would be in the top 5 in the premier league if he was getting first team action

i reckon it'd be inter, bayern or AC....dont think he'd get near the Barcalona or Madrid team so that doesnt leave many other options in Europe

A team that finishes 6th three years in a row doesn't become sh*t overnight, it's just a uniquely bad transition period. I suspect Randy is promising these boys a bigger picture.

Think it will end any interest Villa had in Keane though must mean Carew's move to WBA is about to be confirmed as well too

Edit - just thought maybe a move to Sunderland for Keane in the pipeline then?

That could be a good move for Liverpool. We're cryin out for decent wingers and he's popped up with a few goals this season too!

Maxi has been doing a very good job in that position although the club do lack a winger with pace. 12 Mill would be really pushing it.

Liverpool linked with DOwning and Suarez today - two really quality players.  Downing's delivery is as good as anyone's in the top flight.  I've always said Suarez will be a major hit in the Premier League.

...However, my question, mostly to LFC fans, is: Should Liverpool be spending 30million this month?  Why are they doing so? Surely when they appoint their full-time manager and give him a 5-year deal in June should they offer him the money to build a squad as he sees fit!  Giving Dalglish 30mill to spend in Januray when he's only gonna be there for five months is outragous! Who is making the bloody decisions here?

Are they seriously saying that Camoli can sign who he likes and the new manager just has to deal with it?  Which top class manager is going to accept those conditions?

But if it's as you said "Going towards two top quality players (and i would agree)" then why not ? Surley the new manager(which could still be Dalglish) would happily have Suarez and Downing to choose from come next Augest. Would be shocked if Suarez opted for Liverpool as the club isnt exactly "attractive" at the moment but what shocks me even more is the fact more "big" clubs arent going in for the lad. He had a fantastic World Cup and his goalscoring record for Ajax speaks for itself.

Yeah - but what if the new manager that comes in fancies packing the midfield and playing only one up front.  Does that mean Suarez sits on the bench behind Torres.

What if the new manager wants to play narrow and doesn't want to play out-and-out wingers...Does that mean Downing never gets a game?

If the club have 30mill to put in to the squad, then surely they should allow the first-team manager to spend that building a squad that he wants, playing the way he wants.  It's absolutely ludicrous spending that money now...Doesn't matter who they are bringing in.

Yeh i think it's time we cashed in on him. Too much "potential" and not enough perfromances! Although I had heard he was gonna be used in a deal to bring Suarez to Liverpool. Pity!

Also apparently Pienaar's move to Spurs has been finalised.

I wish Babel all the best and still feel under the right manager he could have been a real star player. He was not used in his best position. But no manager was happy to give him a go there, they know more than me. But I can see him doing really well in Germany. Glad he has not gone to another English club anyway
